Haiphong is a good place to visit if you are looking for a not so touristy place in Vietnam. It has a provincial charm that many cities have traded for shopping centers and movie theaters.
We ate at Maxim cafe downtown, went to the indoor market downtown and visited an outdoor Sunday market. My husband loves photography, and he was happy to shoot in Paiphong. Go to the fountain in the evening to enjoy the light show. There is a bar with live music downtown, they have great singers and very cheap drinks.
Deffinatly visit Do Son beach and do not pay more than 300,000 Dong for the taxi. The roads are very good and traffic is light.
Excellent zoo/ park at the Hon Dau hotel. [Free for us but noticed locals were being charged a modest fee to enter]
Very well laid out city design. wide, tree lined streets. Easy to navigate and lots of street food stalls to sample different dishes.
Not a great city to visit since it is mostly a industrial and port city. More than likly if you are coming to Hai Phong it is for business.
