Really boring place, unless you love sightseeing. Food at night market are really bad. We did so much research before we went, after having tasted the real food in the night market, we believed whatever was recommended on blogs, tv, etc are all just pure gimmicks.
..or paid advertisment. The super long queue for the bbq at the night market really wasn't worth the wait. Average waiting time is 2 to 3 hours or even longer. It's just so normal. My personal opinion will be it's not even worth 10 mins of waiting time for such standard. The bbq corn to be is a joke. Seriously, even if it's free, I wouldn't eat it again.
Huealien is a good destination to refreshing your soul, with the slow pacing lifestyle and friendly local people, wonderful landscape and beatiful beach, as well as delicious local food, you will definitely love this place
We spent 2.5 days could have stayed a week, plenty to do but need to go by shuttle bus and travel a fair bit and you can purchase a 2 day pass for NT$400 or 1 day for NT$250, the mountains and coast line are amazing.
Only 2.5 hours on the fast train from Taipei other trains will take 3-5 hours to get there
You can do a range of walks. Would certainly recommend more than 1 night. Depending on how much walking, sight seeing, biking around you want to do but there is a huge range of out door activities which you can do.
Stay at least a min of 3 nights, the longer the better.
near Taroko National Park, most convenientif you have own transport so that you can take your time.If heading on to SunMoon Lake or vice versa, note the Cross Island Highway is not for the faint-hearted.
Fog,rain narrow single -lane dual direction roads means oncoming traffic can cause the inexperienced to get into difficult situations.Rest stops few along the way ,halfway there's a ski resort which in summer is popular among hikers.Road goes up to 3275m,majestic views if sky's clear.Landslides abound and road repairs ongoing so prepare for delays. It was most challenging by far, having driven in various countries prior to this as Large lorrys come around blind corners and dark tunnels with inches to spare!Sound your horn!
Hualien reminded me a lot of Jogjakarta, but Chinese version. Laid-back city with rows of shophouses, delicious food and the centre for venturing out to other sites (i.
Hualien city is basically a place to stay to visit Taroko gauge. The city itself does not offer much in the way of sightseeing, or even shopping, or dining.
Check the weather first before arriving. We were disappointed to arrive when it was raining because we could not go to Taroko Gorge and Seven Stars Lake.
There are quite a few local delicacies like A mei Mochi but this city is mostly for sightseeing.
You must take car or bus tour to different attractions. When you go to the Hualin city centre for shopping, you may take taxi by calling or booking.
should drive or hire a car with a driver (tour guide) should spend a day at Taroko National Park and another day driving along the East Rift Valley
Was stay here because of going to visit Taroko (Amazing view cause we drove all the way from Tai Chung to Hua Lien)and Chike Mountain.
A lot of attraction spots nearby, great view along the way, love the relax life here. Easy to get hostel facing Ocean
A great place to experience nature in Taiwan. Lack public transport, must hire a driver or guide in order to truly experience Hualien.
Loved visiting nature spots like Qingshui Cliff, Taroko Gorge. Otherwise a very chill city where lots of delicious food can be found.
Natives are very friendly and chatty.
Hualien is a great place for nature and sightseeing, with the Taroko Gorge, Qi Xing Tan and Ruisui Hotspring within its vicinity.
While it is the biggest province in Taiwan, it has the smallest city population so streets are less crowded and noisy compared to other places. Come here if you want to get away from the city life.
If you love country life, you will love this city. It is totally different from many Taiwan cities that are so metropolis types.
Hualien preserves many natural and environmental factors.
A peaceful town for relaxation away from the business of Taipei city. Rich in culture with a large population of the aborigines.
If you like hiking and sightseeing, do not miss this hidden gems.
Hualien is a very huge county and a lot of nature sights can be found here. Taroko Gorge is a must-go to experience its wonders.
Qi Xing Tan is a nice spread of beach with pebbles, it is best to go during summer. The night market in Hualien is Dongdamen night market. It is probably a combination of past night markets scattered everywhere in the city. It is newly built with ample walking spaces, sitting areas and even a performance area. Some stalls are manned by Taiwanese aborigines and are well received. City Centre is at Zhongshan Road towards South-East.
Truly a county with the sights of a country. The diversity of landscape and activities that one can engage in is truly amazing.
A must visit if you are in this part of the world!
Must visit the national tarogo gorges, shi ti ping and ci sing tan. Don't visit sugar factory...not worth the time there.
Overall, it was a very relaxing trip to Hualien and it is thoroughly very enjoyable. Beautiful sightseeing places.
Nothing. We went to a hot spring described as being Hualien, but it was actually 65km away so we never saw Hualien
Overall quiet and nice town , great for relaxation and not over crowded, friendly people and lots of scenic views.
Will be good if you love sceneries.
Had very good time about the Scenic Nature, the Beach, the Sunrise, the Seafood. It is a fantastic city to stay.
Anyway the restaurants here just nice.. less better than other areas in Taiwan... Generally, the stay at Hualian is wonderful...
There is a need to get a private driver to travel around this city. It would save your time and enjoy to the max
Hualien is a beautiful city but the streets tend to be narrow and without provision for non-motorized traffic.
Urban transport is not well developed.
Hualian is an aera with most religious people in Taiwan. Tailu Park is quite famous and worth sightseeing.
The city is a bicycle friendly and you can ride bicycle to see most of the spots as it is not so big city.
food is good here. scenic driving routes. take the time to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful landscapes =)
Hualien is mainly for sightseeing, better to book driver if in groups so that able to go see more places.
Good thing is most attractions are still free to enter.
Hualien is a big city. So if you want to visit all the town, you need to spend at least 3 days in there.
Nice scenic place, good for relaxation and nature lovers. Not the place for those seeking city life.
