The capital city of Papua, Jayapura is a large city enjoying a beautiful coastline and beaches that have been safely preserved from most tourists. The city is served by flights landing at the airport in Sentani, which is about 60 kilometers away from the center of Jayapura.
Jayapura has some beautiful beaches, one of which is the picturesque white sand Pasir Beach
which is managed by a local private group who maintain the cleanliness and facilities of the beach, including shaded seating areas that are perfect for spending the day at the beach. On the other hand, Hamadi Beach
does not have much by way of cleanliness or facilities, but it does have some artifacts from World War II, as well as local markets and food stalls. It serves as a great place in which to spend the early evening, taking in the local fish market scene and enjoying the local cuisine.
There’s much more to see and do in Jayapura, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this exciting city.
