Dating back to the fifth century, this Ukranian capital is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, and one of the most important places for the advancement of European culture in Eastern Europe. This city has seen more than its fair share of war and destruction, but always it has managed to rebuild and continue its legacy. Upon arriving at Boryspil International Airport, one will quickly feel the energy of this resilient, welcoming city. Hotels near the airport are centrally located within Kiev, so getting to the sites will be fairly easy. Kiev Pechersk Lavra, or the Monastery of the Caves, dates back to the year 1051, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Saint Sophia Cathedral, which, dating back to the year 1037 is the oldest surviving church in Kiev. After walking through these ancient places of worship, continue onto the War Memorial, which tells the history of how severely Kiev was destroyed by World War II. This moving memorial has many exhibits of ancient Kiev and the effects of war, and ends with the stunning Mother Motherland Statue.

All around the world, Independence Square is known as the place where the famous political protests of recent years took place. However, Independence Square is also where locals gather for nightly music, food, and dancing.
