Traveler impressions of Loei
I fell in love with this city. Amazing landscape, friendly people and charming town. Will be back soon.
Travel to Loei ?Plane from BKK or bus/taxi at the moment no train BUT i have been told that one is coming 2018? MOTOR BIKE HIRE well had to use google translate as english is not readily spoken here.
A small city with essential facilities available for visitors and a Big shopping/supermaret with cafes/eateries.
Like I said before it is a small city but doesn't have shopping malls. There are stores like Tesco to buy things if needed and also lots of smaller stores in the city centre.
Loei City is easy to get around, the people are friendly and the surrounding countryside is beautiful.
If you are really interested in the way of life, history of the area, there is so much to see and do ,best way is to hire a motor bike and just head for the hills We were lucky enough to meet a local man who spoke very good English who acted as a tour guide for us he grow up in Loei so could tell you so much about the way life was For those that don't want to ride a bike he has a car and will do tours for 1500 baht plus cruel for the day, he will take you to places you would not believe ,tell him what you would like to see and he cane find it ,local weavers, basket makers ,old ladies hand making fishing nets.
Loei is a nice looking town, but the inhabitants are on the whole very inhospitible to foreigners. We were refused service at a few restaurants and stores in the markets.
Our first time to Loei, noticed a lot of street vendors selling mainly fruit. Apparently the pineapples are some of the best in Thailand.
A nice small city with good options to visit many interesting tourist sites for day trips or longer stays.
Surprisingly, Loei has all the travelers probably are looking for. Scenic nature from mountains to rivers, local products for shopping and hip town such as Chiangkan.
Not much there. Quite provincial city. No nightlife to speak of and not much open after 5 pm. No farang restaurants or pubs.
I would recommend Loei for an unadulterated social and culteral experience of Thai life. The place is slow and quiet, the people open and friendly.
The name Loei in Thailand might not be the first name which comes to mind when travelling in Thailand but it definitely a place not to be overlooked.
