Traveler impressions of Loei
I fell in love with this city. Amazing landscape, friendly people and charming town. Will be back soon.
Travel to Loei ?Plane from BKK or bus/taxi at the moment no train BUT i have been told that one is coming 2018? MOTOR BIKE HIRE well had to use google translate as english is not readily spoken here.
Near the rounabout in town there is an agricultural shop that rents bike and also Chris,s beer bar?.HIRE A BIKE AND GO some of the niciest road around PS have a look Chiang Khan
Like I said before it is a small city but doesn't have shopping malls. There are stores like Tesco to buy things if needed and also lots of smaller stores in the city centre.
Good scenery around the area from mountains to the Mekong river,
Loei City is easy to get around, the people are friendly and the surrounding countryside is beautiful.
If you are really interested in the way of life, history of the area, there is so much to see and do ,best way is to hire a motor bike and just head for the hills We were lucky enough to meet a local man who spoke very good English who acted as a tour guide for us he grow up in Loei so could tell you so much about the way life was For those that don't want to ride a bike he has a car and will do tours for 1500 baht plus cruel for the day, he will take you to places you would not believe ,tell him what you would like to see and he cane find it ,local weavers, basket makers ,old ladies hand making fishing nets.
Neung will even offer his serves for culinary tours and man does thus man know his food and the best places to get it . You can contact Neung on 081-320-1319 He will make you stay in Loei an experience you will not forget for a life time
Loei is a nice looking town, but the inhabitants are on the whole very inhospitible to foreigners. We were refused service at a few restaurants and stores in the markets.
Great for heading to the national parks, but not for making new friends
Our first time to Loei, noticed a lot of street vendors selling mainly fruit. Apparently the pineapples are some of the best in Thailand.
A nice small city with good options to visit many interesting tourist sites for day trips or longer stays.
I went to the Pi Tha Khon festival at Dan sai taking the public transport. However the busses were few & far between . It took about 90 minutes of travel time to reach a destination of less than 50 km. But the July festival was fantastic & worth the travel inconvenience.
Surprisingly, Loei has all the travelers probably are looking for. Scenic nature from mountains to rivers, local products for shopping and hip town such as Chiangkan.
Extremely value for your time and your money.
Not much there. Quite provincial city. No nightlife to speak of and not much open after 5 pm. No farang restaurants or pubs.
I would recommend Loei for an unadulterated social and culteral experience of Thai life. The place is slow and quiet, the people open and friendly.
No hesitation walking around alone at night, and therein lies the beauty, if that is what one is looking for.
The name Loei in Thailand might not be the first name which comes to mind when travelling in Thailand but it definitely a place not to be overlooked.
Located at the most northern part of the Isan region (Northeast of Thailand), Loei is full of hills and plateaus and lots of national parks with a great view of the sun set and sun rise. A definite destination for photographers for the "sea of fog" just when the sun rises. You can find many local food stores and restaurants all over town but there's a special walking street in the evening full of small food stores ranging from a-la-carte menu, noodle dishes, desserts, and snacks.
