Best hotels & accommodations in Madurai

GRT Madurai is awesome! Not only is it our favourite hotel in Madurai but it is also one of our favourites across southern India. Every year my family and I do our annual pilgrimage to Madurai and other locations in South India. The one hotel we never change is GRT Madurai because the rooms are great value for money and the staff is the most courteous and helpful you ...

It is my 2nd time staying with Heritage Madurai. I was very pleased with this place and I do not see any reason to book other hotels in Madurai. This is the best place. I travelled with my Grandma and the staffs were beyond helpful and sweet. We booked the luxury pool villa. It is just that the insects are alot more when you book the pool villa. Just remember to keep t...

After reading the reviews we decided to try out the Madurai Residency and we weren't disappointed. The rooms were lovely, the service excellent and the position great. Excellent value for money and will defiantly stay again on our next trip to Madurai.

This is an excellent hotel in Madurai. Its close to Meenakshi Amman temple. The rooms were very clean, No smell or stench. The staff is accommodating (we got upgraded room, because of overbooking) The room are very spacious and have all the amenities; Strongly recommend.

It was a really excellent stay at Royal Court, Madurai. The staff and Manager is very good and polite. Breakfast was very good. Room service is fine and good. I always recommends to stay at-least one time in Hotel Royal Court, Madurai if you are planning to visit Madurai. The another best part is its location from Meenakshi Temple and Madurai Railway Station. I wish be...

most of staff are always smile to you,and ready for help u with everything. Might be the condition here is not like the luxury hotel in the international city, but I like the service they provide for me. Next time come to Madurai,I’ll come to here again. In addition, the breakfast here is quite good, even comparing to the five star hotel all over the world. Thanks for all...

A very good hotel in Madurai. Went there with family and stayed here. The room was very good.It was clean and with all the required facilities. The food in the restaurant was also very good. The temple is about 1.5 Km from the hotel and one can avail autorikshaws to go the temple. Overall Recommended to stay.

The Hotel is infront of Madurai Jn Railway Station , is very convenient and near to temple which is around km away. The room had AC, geyser facilities, cleanly maintained. Could get tea, water served also inside room . Budget economical decent hotel , surprisingly belonging to Madurai Corporation.

Had a comfortable and relaxing time in the hotel. Breakfast was simple but satisfactory, just nice for us.The pool was good and clean . They even provide arm float for the kids . The staff was friendly and excellent. Equal treatment as well to everyone whether you are VIP or non VIP. Special thanks as well to Mr.Anbu Raj (Pool care taker) and the security guys ( day) ...

This is a very nice hotel. The room are clean and shower with hot water is marvellous. Located 5 minutes (tuk tuk) from the train station, it is a perfect location. Going the Madurai main temple from there is easy with a tuk tuk. I recommend this very nice hotel.

I was admitted for surgery there post operatively I was staying here and the sfltaff were very helpful getting my request dine very promptly . Especially the Reception dark Indian Chap went more then extra mile .... without any expectations . App staff are polite and very informative .

We selected the hotel as it is the nearest to fulfill the purpose. Rooms are clean and the staffs were friendly and helpful. Hotel was not available for the selected period. Have to go to another hotel for 3 days and come back to same hotel complete our stay. Overall great place and definitely coming back again.

This is a great option for madurai. Three minute walk to the temple. Lots of life right outside the hotel entrance. Our morning chai across the street. Fresh coconuts kitty corner. You can view the action from the rooftop which has laundry lines for drying. Good south india veg breakfast. Plus the room was quiet. Lots of power outages (wecome to india) but they...

The hotel was great, we stayed in 5 different hotels before Arasan Sapthagiri, and all were so disappointing with various issues. In Hotel Arasan Sapthagiri, the duvet and mattress was open sponge and lots of dust were coming out. Which was a huge disappointment, however the restaurant, staff and rest of the stay was extremely good. I loved it.

The hotel is centrally located near Minakshi Amman Temple. Walkable distance from Temple. Restaurant and eateries are nearby. Staying was good but cleanliness requires more attention specially bed sheets etc. We went there to Madurai for darshan of Minakshi Devi temple & hotel was nearby and stay was overall o.k.

The place was good and staff were pleasant. It is an old building but maintained properly. The price is not so good compared to other newly built hotels at better locations available in Madurai itself. Thus, price wise it cannot be recommended. As we were on a medical trip, most of the time we spent outside and thus, preferred a cheaper hotel.

Rooms are small but well decorated. Our room was at the side of the building but still very noisy at night. (Thanks parking attendant with a whistle.) Breakfast was a bit of a disaster. We had to wait over an hour for the good and a further 10 minutes for coffee (they ended up being the wrong order anyway). However, the hotel has only been open for two months and I'm...

Good budget option with a soft mattress. Located out of town, but good bus options to get into the centre. Good price. Staff were lovely and did the best they could with what they had. Had problems with the room (fan not adjustable, shower head missing, powerpoint broken, holes in window screen). Was moved to different room on request, which resolved fan and powerpo...

I recently sent my parents who are in their 60s with 3 of my aunts who are all in their 50s and 60s. As this is is their first time in India on their own, I made specific arrangements for their travel requirements including the hotel that they will be staying. Purpletree Place West Marret was recommended to me by a friend who was there recently for a holiday with his...

I always liked to stay here whenever I go to Madurai. It's safe, neat and close to attractions that I did not find in many hotels in the same price band. They have a car parking with security. One of the good Veg restaurants in Madurai in few feet away. Wifi wasn't working during the entire stay.

This hotel is unpretentious yet comfortable. the staff due all they can to please and take a great interest in you especially if you are a foreigner and seem to be more attentive. They offer both aircon as well as ceiling fans. The beds perhaps would not be everyones cup of tea however are more to traditional style. They are very very firm as are the pillows. Bathrooms...
Cheapest hotels in Madurai

Less than 2 KMs from Madurai Junction railway station. When we speak out and ask for anything, Sundar and Anbu helps much immediately. It was a straight forward trustworthy experience I had in MR Residency. Restaurants and Auto rickshaw are available nearby and bus transportation is also available in the main road which is a KM away.

The room was absolutely disgusting. It was the dirtiest place we've been in India. The walls were so damp the plaster was crumbling off, this was on the wall behind the bed, there was no headboard so it was begind the pillows. The bed linen was so thin, dirty and smelly, there were black stains from heads lying on the pillows! The smell on entering the room made me gag...

Hotel room was decent. My room had a balcony so that was pretty nice. It's closer from the bus stop and locality is nice. Hotel staff did lack hotel etiquette but you can't consider them rude. You smile to them and they will smile back at you.. All in all its a worth for money.

I have a room on the 4th floor but there is a lift, no window in the room but one in the bathroom. The room was nice and white new painting. Comfortable bed, clean, good WiFi, Ac and fan. 2 mn walking to the main temple. Good choice for a couple of days visiting Madurai. No breakfast

Good for Business or solo traveler. If you are on family vacation, this is not ideal. They have 5 rooms only but rooms are spacious, have the required facilities. Located next to Periyar Bus stand and Railway Junction the center of the city. Budget Hotel meant for a short stay. Staff could be little more polite and professional in handling customers (The reception...

I stayed with my family (4 Adults) in Four Bedroom A/C on 20/21-Oct-2015. It is located in the City but far from the temple. We need to take Auto from Hotel to Temple. The Room is clean, hot water available, restaurant attached, complementary Breakfast is there. Front desk, Staff are very nice. They need to improve upkeep in the hotel premises - especially around the re...

The staff were very rude to me on arrival and on departure. I am a female travelling on my own through india and arrived at madurai train station earlier than originally expected. This meant that i got to the hotel t arnd 6am. The staff were very unhappy about this and made it clear to me almost shouting at me for confirmation email and passport. My hotel confirmati...

Spent three nights here. Location is fantastic on a slightly quieter street, close to major sights, restaurants etc. Rooftop restaurant (only had the delicious breakfast). Balconies with views of street life and the temple. Went on two tours with them, one focusing on sights within and around Madurai; the other going to Kodaikanal. The first was fantastic with a divers...

I was staying in Boopathi 2 nights and have nothing bad to say about this place. Not far from train station, walking distance to Meenakshi Temple, in the middle of typical noisy Indian city full of dust, rikshaws and cars overusing horns. Lots of shops, local restaurants around and stalls with fresh fruits. Rooms and bathroms might be cleaner. There were dirty walls lo...

This is a rather new hotel that I found with great reviews on Agoda. The location is a little outside of city center, but still around plenty of great food, shopping, and a movie theater. The staff was amazingly helpful, guiding me (with a helpful map) to some great local veg and non veg restaurants and providing other sight seeing recommendations as well. Honestly ...

we loved this hotel so much, we changed our travel plans to come back. the colonial era buildings are scattered across a gorgeous hilltop location with astounding views of madurai. mongooses, geckos, and peacocks roam the gardens, and you're surrounded by gardens. the standard rooms are luxurious, the upgraded rooms are astounding. the pool is picturesque, and was ...
Traveler impressions of Madurai
The Meenakshi Amman Temple is impressive. The Tirumalai Nayak Palace is an empty shell and not worth visiting.
We used Madurai as a break point on a long 24+ hour train journey from Kerala to Chennai. There really is nothing nice I can say about Madurai with the exception of the temples.
Madurai is a small and nice city to visit. One of oldest city in india. Sri meenakshi temple is one of greatest temple in india.
Madurai is a big city but the old part, in which the temple is located is quite compact and easy to manage on foot unless you have difficulty walking.
Madurai is only good for Historical monument & the famous temples. And its also a good place to get famous Kanjivaram sarees.
The city is full of history and the temples are just awesome and some dates back few thousands of years ago.

More about Madurai
For both leisure and religious travelers, the temples of Madurai are the greatest draw of the city. Meenakshi Temple is by far the most popular of them all and showcases south Indian Dravida architecture. Four immense temple towers, easily seen from a distance, are decorated with thousands of brilliantly painted sculptures. The area around the temple is also popular for commerce with many markets selling goods such as groceries, electronics, and handicrafts. Away from this grand temple, there are a few other noteworthy sites worth a visit, including the remains of the Thriumalai Nayak Palace and the Gandhi Museum. There are also Islamic sites of historical and religious relevance that draw in many. A durgah, or shrine, called Thirupparankundram is visited by many of all faiths, and a burial ground known as Gorippalayam Dargah offers some amazing sights.
