Kowit Maechaem Farmstay
"I have been searching for a bungalow like this for 10 years! It is very rustic bamboo construction, very comfortable, in the middle of a farm field, far from civilization....with unrivaled views and an incredible host. If you are used to the Four Seasons, stay far away. But, if like us you are seeking rustic solitude and a true look at rural Thailand, this is your place! We stayed 2 nights and were blown away by the scenery, the hiking, and the kindness of the host (Kowit) and the locals. I don't think we've ever stayed at a more quiet and peaceful place in all of Asia. Kowit and his local family also served us generous helpings of very traditional food, which was unlike anything we've tried in Asia. A few words of warning however. You cannot get here by yourself....the roads are too bad. Kowit will pick you up in Mae Chaem or Chiang Mai and drive you up into the hills in his 4-wheel drive truck. Also stop at the 7-11 in town before heading up if you need snacks, beer, wine, etc. Once you're there, you are there...though Kowit was very gracious about driving us to town for more wine and chocolate!! Also, there is an attached western toilet with shower, but there is no hot water. We would highly recommend Kowit Marchaem Farmstay to anyone looking for a truly out of the way rustic Thai adventure! Kowit is a very nice person and also speaks good English. He plans on adding 2 more bungalows to the current 2 in the near future."Show more

Chadaporn Rentroom
"This hotel is hard to find, there is no street address. Directions given by staff is not understandable, poor English language skills is the culprit here.
It is located deep at the end of a small, no name alley in the middle of nowhere. There is no public transportation, no tourist facility of any kind nearby. You must have your own transportation to stay here.
Hotel staff denied us the use of the A/C as advertised, demanding Bht 100 more if we want it. Apparently, the famous northern Thai hospitality is lacking at this hotel.
Overall, Chadaporn hotel and the sleepy town of Mae Chaem is disappointing.
There are better hotels in more interesting towns elsewhere."Show more

Kwan-lah home stay
"This was my first stop on the Mae Hong Son loop, and what was supposed to be a one night stay, turned into three. I can’t thank Nay (The Owner) enough for everything he did to make my stay so memorable. I stayed in the dormitory, which was extremely clean, had lockers, and was cool due to the time of the year. Firstly, the Kwan-Lah home stay is just a great place to relax, I was able to catch up on a lot of work due to its comfy seating area and very cool aesthetics. Secondly, Nay provided me with all the best spots to visit in Mae Chaem which did not disappoint! Along with recommending and taking me to some of the best spots to eat in town! I cannot wait to bring my friends here!"Show more

Mae Chaem Hotel And Resort
"Good things first, the location is quite.
The pool was there but it was closed even if the water pumps were on. Maybe they open it on request.
The bed was ok so far, but there was no bed clothes on the blanket.
The most disgusting things were the mould on the wall to the bath and the very wet bath with mould also.
The sanitary tools were in pretty bad conditions and even after five minutes there was no warm water out of the flow-type heater.
The towels were moreover a little bit stained.
A lot of mosquitoes came in because of some slits. The blank lamp on the top was flickering at night, so that I had to remove it.
Wouldn't book again."Show more
