E-outfitting Golden Country Hotel
Eastern Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"My first local trip in this year since Covid 19. E outfitting applied health prevention measure well. If you would like to stay the hotel with outdoor swimming pools, gym and restaurant within city areas, E outfitting will be very few of them and you can chill with those facilities. Almost 24 hours tea house is also just beside this hotel. Chills and enjoy!! "

Ritz Grand Hotel
Southern Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"This was the best room that I have stayed in, so far in Myanmar (over several moths). Very large, newly built so very clean, and very well appointed, including a king bed. The spa and gym were not completed yet, but there is a nice rooftop bar and a restaurant below. The food was fine and the view very nice from the roof, and many other restaurants are within walking distance. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. It's a bit south in Mandalay, but attractions are minutes away by taxi or tuk-tuk. Airport is still 45 minutes by taxi."

Palace View Hotel
Central Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"We loved this hotel! The free breakfast was incredible and the staff were so incredibly sweet and attentive. The first night we stayed we got an enormous room that we loved - the second time we got a much smaller room, but it had more of a view. It was unbearably hot outside in Mandalay so we were so happy to have this oasis to retreat to - we would take a walk to the palace or out to the night market (which is pretty close and definitely worth the trip!) and then come back for some cool air. We loved the OJ and fruit upon arrival too. The best part of all was eating the delicious breakfast in the chilled restaurant with a full view onto the palace and its moat and surrounding park. Loved it!"

Royal Yadanarbon Hotel
Northern Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"I really enjoyed my time there, its very rare I rate a place 100% but the royal yadanarbon deserves it. Firstly, its rated as a 2 star.. and it feels better than that. The room was fully equipped with a great bed, fridge, quiet a/c and a hot shower. It was cleaned every day and the staff were wonderful and really helpful without exception. The breakfast was buffet and whilst the food was mainly local, (which I love) I also asked, and got fried eggs as extra.. just a caviet, I mainly travel with a back pack so I am use to (at times) some average and often grimy places. The royal yadanarbon by contrast was exceptionally clean and a joy to stay in and by far the best place in my stay in myanmar. Mandalay is noisy, dusty and a beautiful but sometimes a challanging city for people who my want to travel but not like getting too far out of their comfort zone.. this small hotel is an oasis of calm.. Yadanarpon Dynasty Hotel
Eastern Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"Yadanarpon is well located close to the old palace and a few minutes in a taxi from downtown Mandalay. Room was good, everything worked. Wifi was pretty good for Myanmar, best I had during my stay in the country. Staff were really good, went out of their way to help. My Burmese is pretty bad so a bit of patience and everything got done. Rooftop bar isn't really one, they rollout a few tables at sunset. In fact, I don't think there was a bar there at all. It's just a couple of minutes walk down the road to street stalls and restaurants anyway, no problem. Close to sunset a loud noise emanated from some contraption near reception which then started to give off clouds of toxic smelling smoke, I had to close the balcony doors. Apparently it was to kill mossies.....(sledgehammer..walnut etc) Good hotel. If you're traveling in Myanmar you'll soon get used to the different hotel standards and learn not to be too picky about the small things. I'd stay there again"

Ace Star BnB Backpacker Hostel
Central Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"Staff in Ace Star definitely the reason I love Myanmar. They wow us for the 2 days 1 night of stay 1. we arrived from Ngwesaung beach > Mandalay , allowed us to check in early (7am) in a rainy day , served with a breakfast of omelette and toast + hot coffee/tea (this already enough to warm my heart) 2. Lady staff named Man san der know our stomach not feeling well,(probably the food and environment is dirty in Yangon a day before). she help us bought a medicine , which help us relief our stomachache 3. Gentleman staff named Moon Shine , chit chat with me at their rooftop while serving us meal. He told me why he like this job , because he feel like a FAMILY when meeting new tourist everyday. When I heard this, I already give this hotel 10/10 score. ATTITUDE DETERMINE EVERYTHING YOU DO. this is why I got the family feel during the stay 4. Before we leave the hostel, the shuttle bus that should arrived at hotel late. we are worried. Gentleman name Phoy, take the initiative to call the bus operator before we even ask him to call. I believe he saw our worried-face in the lobby. His call give us the relief. And we are really sad to leave Mandalay. 10/10 score. P/s: to the owner / management , you need to invest a better horse power A/C, as the 10 bed dorm room is big, 1 A/C will feel not cold. Anyhow I'm okay with the stay. Definitely the reason I would comeback to this town and will ask my friend who going Myanmar next month to stay here. "

Hotel Sahara
Central Mandalay,Mandalay - View on map
"Most of the hotels in Myanmar are quite expensive when compared with neighboring countries, and most of the time visitors would feel that they deserve more from the amount they paid. Hotel Sahara is an exception! Despite their budget room rates, they offer great service and most importantly the rooms are quite spacious with flat screen tv, cabinet, small fridge, and nice and clean bathroom. It is located at the corner of a shopping district and sits right in front of Mandalay moat which is a famous local attraction. If you are flying with AirAsia, the free shuttle service is just on the next street, less than 3-minute walk from the hotel. The breakfast is awesome, the staff are awesome. In the evening, a local Burmese noodle shop opens right in front of the hotel, and they have really delicious food at affordable prices. Surely it was my best hotel experience in Myanmar. "

Traveler impressions of Mandalay

More about Mandalay

Mandalay is one of the largest cities in Myanmar, and was once the capital of the country. As the former seat of Myanmar’s royal past, the city is steeped in history and culture, making it a great place to visit and experience not only the local culture but a great deal of this country’s past.

The city is served by Mandalay International Airport, a busy travel hub with flights serving most of Myanmar, as well as some international flights to surrounding countries.

Mandalay Palace, also known as the Royal Palace, was built in 1861 but unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War. The palace was since rebuilt using different materials from the original, but it’s a very large and impressive complex that should be explored if only for the glimpse of history it offers. There are several hotels near the royal palace, making it even easier to access this site without having to travel too far to reach it. There are strict rules for entry points and certain expectations of dress and behavior, as some of the exhibits are religious in nature.

Shwenandaw Monasteryis a beautiful building with stunningly intricate wooden carvings and golden details. This monastery was a part of the former palace complex, and has been beautifully maintained. This teak wood structure is a huge draw for many who visit Myanmar, and understandably one of the most visited places not only by devotees of the Buddhist faith, but tourists as well. There are many hotels near Shwenandaw Monastery in northern Mandalay, most of which are conveniently located within a short distance of the attraction and range in different types of accommodation.
