Mandara Resort Mirissa
Mirissa Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"Mandara resort located just 2,3 Kms away from Mirissa beach. But it's easy to go to Mirissa main beach in a tuk tuk and come back. There was a hiccup in my booking but its was a problem with Agoda and the hotel. They sorted the problem quickly and gave the room I booked. I booked the room with the plunge pool. It's a very nice spacious room with a decent pool outside. Not much privacy though but, no complaints. It's nice. In room dining food was amazingly delicious. Breakfast buffet also superb. The beach is very peaceful and nice. But I don't like the fence between the hotel and the beach. It's super ugly net like cheap fence. Spa is fantastic. We got a 25% off deal. Overall it's a very good resort. I highly recommend to select this if you're staying in Mirissa. "

Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa
Weligama Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"During my time in Sri Lanka I found the country beautiful and the people friendly, but perhaps with truly high-end properties still in short-supply service has generally fallen short of what I'd expect from say Bali or Tokyo. Having said that, the Marriott was the exception - while I found the pool area a bit crowded and had some other minor issues, the hotel's staff were beyond reproach. I had a particularly fond impression of Mr. Sandeep, the Executive Chef at Weligama Kitchen. On a related note, the food was also a highlight of our stay, we later visited Ministry of Crab in Colombo, lauded as one of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, and while the crabs were stellar, the other offerings were possibly edged by what I had sampled at Weligama Kitchen. "The location is perfect - 2 min walk to the beach, turtle bay, coconut hill,a few dissent restaurants nearby , scooter rental near by . The hotel - we searched a-lot for a good hotel in mirissa beach and we found this one, the price is a bit too expensive but the other hotels were just bad. The hotel is new and beautiful, clean, the rooms are nice and clean and have a great shower. Love the pool and the view! Breakfast - is ok to start the day especially with no good breakfast restaurants in the area. Staff- amazing and helpful, upgraded us to a better room. Overall, I’ll come back for sure"

Nature Inn

"This place is so nice, it makes me want to go back to Mirissa just to stay there again. I stayed in the Villa, which is spaceous for a single traveller. The bathroom has all it needs, the floor looks normal grey when it is dry, but gets mesmerizing colours when it gets wet, which it does frequently of course! The villa has a nice porch towards the open garden. During my one week stay, I saw two types of monkeys, a peacock, a one meter long lizard, a few squirrels and the house cats walking about the place as if it's the most natrual thing in the world. Well, it probably is. Also the whole crowd of neighbourhood dogs came roaming through once, but they didn't do anything, just got in one side and out on the other. Pradeep is an excellent host, always friendly and there to help. The same applies to his wife who is also a good cook. I recommend to try the meals they offer, you can get very good Sri Lankan food there. Also Pradeep has a tuktuk and charges fair prices for his services. A trustworthy host, I would book all tours through him. Location of the place is good, as it is away from the street. No traffic noise, or babbling passer-byers will keep you up at night. Of course that also means you need to walk a few minutes to get to the beach, depending on walking speed you can be there in less than 10 minutes. There is enough light to find your way at night, and contrary to previous posts, I didn't find the dogs in the streets unfriendly. They are quite chilled and passive. Being a natural place, ants and mosquitoes are not far of course. But the house is properly built so if you don't leave food open, you should not have trouble, and the beds have mosquito nets, so nothing prevents a good night's sleep. You should not go there for the WiFi. It's definitely not WiFi Inn. In the villa, I didn't get any signal and as Pradeep said, it was month end and the daytime gigabytes may have been used up anyways (sri lankan volume limits on internet connections...) However"

Number ONE Mirissa Hotel
Mirissa Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"No1 Mirissa is a new, stylish and upmarket boutique hotel/guest house perched on the rocks at the end of Marissa Beach. The location is fantastic with lovely views along the palm trees and down to the surfers in the water. We stayed there after moving on early from the very disappointing Talalla Retreat. The design of the rooms is comfortable and elegant, with lots of billowing white fabric, nice shower rooms and hand made beds. Very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is tasty, well cooked and remarkably reasonably priced; breakfast is great and the coffee (Nespresso to order) is by far the best we had in coffee-ruining Sri Lanka! However, the standout feature of the place is the customer service and drive to get things right. The owner Scott and manager Su are a constant presence in the background, unobtrusively anticipating and attending every guest need. They are friendly and approachable, full of both useful information and enjoyable conversation. The other front of house staff are a little inexperienced, as we found with many of Sri Lanka's resorts, but invariably charming, friendly and really keen to make a guest welcome. To finish icing this lovely cake, No1 could make access to the beach more convenient, add a little more privacy across the balconies and perhaps provide sofas in the rooms to allow sitting in the air-conned coolness during the midday heat. A couple of small things like cotton robes and coffee in the bedrooms would sugar the cherry on top. As it stands No1, while by no means cheap, is a wonderfully relaxed, luxurious and friendly place to spend a few days; we highly recommend it as the best place we enjoyed in a month in Sri Lanka, and really wish we'd had more than 2 nights there."

Handagedara Resort
Mirissa Beach,Mirissa - View on map
"During our vacation through Sri Lanka, we opted for one night in Mirissa and Handagedara Resort, as we stopped in the area to go whale-watching. Our previous hotels were fine, but lacking in some of the finer touches, but when we arrived here, we found ourselves at a first-class establishment, with the details taken care of with a professional touch. Greeted warmly by the hotel owner, we were taken to our awaiting room, which in the hot Sri Lanka climate was cooled for our arrival with the A/C. The room was tastefully decorated and while a bit noisy (due to construction of a swimming pool), it was a welcome respite. The beach is just a three minute walk away and Handagedara employs a standout cook-we had lunch and dinner and all four dishes we tried were among the best we had on our vacation, which is saying a lot in a place where every meal was enjoyable. The last thing to say-Handagedara was a great bargain, the cheapest place we stayed in Sri Lanka while the service, decor, and professionalism combined for the best quality on our trip (and we didn't have any bad experiences with hotels in the country). More about Mirissa

The city of Mirissa is located in the Matara District of Sri Lanka’s southern province. This small city is best accessed by bus from bigger cities like Colombo, where the international airport is located. Once getting into Mirissa, the best way to get around is by foot, as it’s a very small town.

The biggest attraction in Mirissa is arguably Mirissa Beach, which is especially popular among surfers and whale watching enthusiasts. There are other beaches scattered along the same coastline, so if one area seems too crowded especially for relaxation in the sand, it’s a smart idea to venture out further along the coastline.

Those who want a break from surfing and relaxing on the beach, a short trip to Weligama Bay is a welcome change of scenery. The small town is perfect for a relaxing walk along the coastline while shopping for handcrafted items and souvenirs, as well as fresh fish from the local fishermen. These are several small markets and places to get a refreshing beverage or snacks while shopping or watching the fishermen bring in their daily catch. There are several hotels on Weligama Beach, several of which are waterfront properties.
