More about Oita

The city of Oita is the capital of the prefecture of the same name, most popular as having the most hot springs outlets in the country. The hot springs, also known as Onsens, are one of the biggest attractions to this region. Being the capital city, Oita is a most popular as a transportation hub and access point for the other cities in the prefecture. Most travel into and out of Oita goes through Oita Airport, which has daily scheduled flights to and from major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, as well as international flights to Seoul.

Besides vegging out in one of the area’s several Onsens, there is plenty to see and do around Oita. A visit to one of the many ancient Buddhist shrines or statues is a worthwhile adventure, with places like Kasuga Shrine being so easily accessible from the city center.

Travelers with children or looking to occupy a few hours doing something interesting have the option of exploring Oita Marine Palace Aquarium, a beautiful and well-designed aquarium and marine adventure park that’s sure to be fun for the whole family.
