Ivory Tree Game Lodge
Ga-Ramonga,Pilanesberg - View on map
"Safaris were well organised in a small jeep with a maximum of 9 people. We were with the same group and guide throughout. Our guide Cathy was very knowledgable and had a brilliant knack of finding the animals at close quarters. Accommodation was in separate huts which were fabulous. Food was plentiful and good quality. Pilanesberg is awesome and the experience is well worth the money."

The Cabanas Hotel at Sun City Resort
Sun City,Pilanesberg - View on map
"Initially had some issues to check-in as they said they don't have any payment information from Agoda for my booking, after 15 minutes the manager sorted out the issue. They gave me a lake view room and told me that I have been upgraded. I thought what did they really mean changing the view to a lake view and saying upgraded, but the view from my room was amazing. The hotel is spread across different blocks and its G+1 style, so no lifts...i believe it has got some 500+ rooms... the lake view is the last block, so you have to walk a lot, the walk way is not covered and its very slippery in case it rains... so if you are going in a rainy season, please ensure you wear footwear with a good grip. The restaurant is very huge, if you have a complimentary breakfast part of your room, please ensure to carry the printout given by reception along with your key (this is the entry ticket for you in other places as well) they don't inform you about this... but the restaurant reception ask you when you reach there. Being a vegetarian i had a limited choice and i didn't find the breakfast so yummy. The hotel is well connected with shuttle service to the entertainment centers in sun city also has a huge parking place available for parking the guest cars. Monkeys are all around, so it is always advised to keep your balcony doors / windows closed. Unlike other parts in africa, you can roam around late evenings in sun city. But please remember that most of the restaurants closes by 9.30, hence plan you dinner well in advance. Now coming to the negative part : The hotel is pretty old and it needs renovation. The rooms are pretty old and you have a TV which is smaller than your desktop screen. If you compared the facilities in the room and the rent approx. you will feel that the its not value for money, but f u want to really feel safe in that part of the world i don't think you can find a cheaper option."

The Palace of the Lost City
Sun City,Pilanesberg - View on map
"Booking in was not the best. Rooms not ready and our free bottle of wine was not sent and had to ask upon checking out. Pool and poolside bar and staff were good. Breakfast was fantastic with a mixture of ok, good and very good staff. We found Magdelaine the best. Transport around resort was great. Palace of the lost city golf course was amazing and enjoyable. Food was great, singer at Legends was awesome and casino good fun. Entry to Valley of the Waves was a great bonus and rides were great. Would have liked to have stayed longer and very much recommended."

"The Resort offers relaxing vibe , had Picnic outside our room and the kids had plenty of space to play. Their Water Splash was the best thing ever happens to us ... The Cascades Hotel at Sun City
Sun City,Pilanesberg - View on map
"Sun City is unique. A curious mix of Butlin's and Las Vegas. It works though, and can be whatever you want it to be: golf holiday, relaxing by the pool, adventure and of course one of Africa's finest game reserves is next door. It also offers fine dining (alongside a plethora of fast food outlets in the main centre), but you have to track it down. South Africa is still learning customer service in the hospitality sector. Standards vary but Sun City is one of the best. To me it felt that the resort though, after a Rand 400 million revamp, is still unclear what its target market is. It is a great family destination, it is a relaxing pool holiday, it is a mass market slot machine and gambling destination (the main Casino feels more end of the pier seaside amusements in Blackpool than Monte Carlo) and of course it is a gateway to the Pilanesberg game reserve, where you will easily see elephant, rhino, hippo, lion. The resort attracts a mix of people from all backgrounds and it feels safe, which is a huge bonus for a South African destination. At the Cascades hotel, breakfast was good, but the management need to work out a way to avoid the queues. And, while this certainly does not affect me, for Islamic visitors (and there were quite a few), the hotel might like to ensure the bacon and sausages can not contaminate the other (very good) English breakfast choices. When putting scrambled egg or tomato onto the plate, it was impossible to stop the serving spoon touching the bacon. I was surprised to learn the the Sun City owners were also involved in Atlantis The Palm, Dubai, which I've visited many times. In fairness you can 'feel' the similarities but Sun City is a lot cheaper. Atlantis attracts wealthy holidaymakers from around the world, who expect the best. But of course there's no casino. And for me, the weather in Dubai is too hot for most of the year. South Africa really does have it beaten. Why more people from around the world fail to see the benefits o"

Black Rhino Game Lodge

"Black Rhino is a lovely example of an African game lodge, very clean and comfortable and well located in its private reserve but adjacent to the beautiful Pilanesberg reserve. The staff are the highlight of the show though providing service with a constant smile. "

Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge
Pilanesberg National Park,Pilanesberg - View on map
"Incredible stay at Kwa Maritane. In planning the trip we chose to do our safari at Pilanesberg rather than Kruger because accommodation seemed more reasonable and we were right. This lodge was absolutely amazing. We got upgraded to an executive suite, which pulled out all the stops. The food was incredible- breakfast and dinner buffets included in stay. I was expecting easy food for the buffets, but was left very impressed with how fancy both were. At dinner one night we were joined by a group of four elephants who came to the watering hole right by the restaurant. Dinner included lamb, fish, and many more options. We even got lucky that we were there on a Wednesday and could partake in the bush brai under the stars- another incredible experience. The game drives are beyond imagination- the guides are so helpful and we were able to see lions (an entire pride devouring an antelope) a family of elephants, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, impalas, kudu, and more. Highly recommend!"

Soho Hotel & Casino at Sun City
Sun City,Pilanesberg - View on map
"The hotel and Rooms are quite good bathrooms are a bit on small side but perfectly adequate, the upgrade of the whole resort is overdue it's become very dated the Soho casino upgrade is awful it's like a kids electronic arcade rather than a casino. I would still recommend this hotel resort I believe the Cabanas Re due to be upgraded in June 17 and it's great the beach and wave pool area. Breakfast is one of the best and the staff are top quality other than reception people queuing and one lady on duty others standing gossiping watching her handle everything!"

Shepherds Tree Game Lodge
Pilanesberg National Park,Pilanesberg - View on map
"We stayed at 3 private safari lodges during our first trip to south africa. This one was the best in terms of value (we payed 260€ per night) by far. The rooms are amazing with a balcony, an indoor bathtub and an outdoor shower, all overlooking the bush. Besides they are super new, luxurious and spotlessly clean. Service is great too. In terms of safari: We saw some elefants at the waterwhole in front of the pool. On the 2 game drives we did we were happy since it was our first game drives ever, and the guides were great. However the game drives we had at other places later during the trip were more rewarding in terms of animal density. But that may have been a matter of luck. Overall, we would recommend any couple, especially on honeymoon, to not miss this lodge, for us it was the best say we had!"
