The stunning scenery and mild climate make Sydney an ideal location for year-round exploration, ensuring that every visit is filled with new discoveries and unforgettable moments.

Best Time to Experience Sydney's Magic

The best time to visit Sydney largely depends on the type of experience you seek. The city enjoys a temperate climate, with warm summers and mild winters. If you’re looking to soak up the sun and enjoy outdoor activities, the summer months from December to February are perfect. This is when the beaches are bustling, and events like the Sydney Festival bring the city to life with music, art, and performances. However, be prepared for higher accommodation prices during this peak season, especially around Christmas and New Year.

Autumn (March to May) is another wonderful time to visit. The weather is pleasantly warm, and the crowds begin to thin out. This season is ideal for exploring the city’s parks and gardens, as the foliage transforms into stunning shades of orange and red. Autumn also hosts various food and wine festivals, making it a delightful time for culinary enthusiasts to indulge in Sydney’s gastronomic offerings.

Winter (June to August) brings cooler temperatures, but it’s also a great time to enjoy Sydney’s indoor attractions. The city hosts the Vivid Sydney festival during May, illuminating the skyline with spectacular light displays and creative installations. Winter is less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of the city’s cultural sites, such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Sydney Tower Eye. Spring (September to November) is another fantastic option, as the city blossoms with flowers and hosts various outdoor events, including the popular Sydney International Food Festival.

When dining out, be sure to try some local favorites, such as meat pies and lamingtons, to get a taste of authentic Australian cuisine.

Lastly, packing essentials is crucial for a comfortable stay. Sydney’s weather can be unpredictable, so layering is key. Bring a light jacket for cooler evenings and swimwear if you plan to hit the beaches. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as you’ll want to explore the city’s many attractions on foot. “Darling Harbour is only a a 15 minute walk from Metro Aspire. I was here for work and had to be at the ICC daily and the walk was very easy. There are very good priced places to eat nearby and the Gum Tree (restaurant at Metro) also has a very reasonably priced menu (compared to places at Darling Harbour). Closest public transport is the light rail which is about a 10 minute walk to the Chinatown station. The light rail does not have as many stops as the main train but this connects to Central Station if you wan to get to the main train line. Chinatown station is right in from of Paddy's market which is great for food stops and fresh fruit. The room is very big. So much bigger than what I expected for a Sydney Hotel at the price that we paid. The rooms are very clean and cleaned daily. My son was with me and loved the bath tub in the room's bathroom. The best thing about Metro is the staff! Everyone is absolutely helpful and very friendly. I cannot say anything bad about this place. Highly recommended.”

“Our two night stay at the Metro Central was good and comfortable. The hotel was close to the airport (2 minutes and approx $14 shuttle ride) and within a 20-40 minute walk were attractions like Darling harbour, Circular Quay / the Rocks, Opera house, many shopping malls and China town - we didn't use public transportation at all although there were plenty of options. The room had a very comfortable bed and necessary amenities. The Hotel was clean and the duty manager was extremely helpful! Value for money ! NOTE: As there are more than one Metro Hotel in Sydney and on Pitt St, should take care to mention this as "Metro Sydney Central Hotel" to Shuttle buses / taxis etc.”

Cleanliness of hotel room is 10/10 provide daily room cleanning sevices... The room interior design is comfortable and look like new... provide mini frige, hair dryer, TV... if u booking for 3 people as me then got a queen bed and a single bed then the single bed have own TV, this is what i am surprising... The hotel staff is nice and willing to provide useful information... Only the thing no convenience is no Wifi/need to pay money... but most of hotel in sydney are same... “My stay was good. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The rooms are nice and the hotel is in great shape. Can't beat the location on Darling Habor (highly recommend a room with a harbor view). My only down comment applies to all hotels in Sydney and Australia - the price of breakfast (AU$30 for continental and AU$35 for full) is outrageously expensive.”

“Booking the Executive Room-City View at a really affordable price via Agoda is quite a steal. The room is spacious, the city view is indeed excellent, and the breakfast is sumptuous with enough choices. One minor draw down is the 10-12 min walk from the hotel to the train station. It is just near when we do not have our luggages with us, but if you have huge suitcases to bring, it can be tiresome. Very thankful as well to the staff for providing recommendations. Shout-out to Julian (hope I was able to spell his name right) as he gave us options when we were not able to borrow an available adaptor, by suggesting to check Woolies' Metro nearby. It is our first time in Sydney and the universal travel adaptor that we have do not include the one for Australia. There are also other establishments available and some sites are reachable in a few minutes walk - Australia Museum, Sydney Eye, Hyde Park, and the majestic St. Mary's Cathedral. We will definitely be back! =)”

“Stayed overnight only, however was greeted with friendly smiles. I have stayed at most of the deluxe 5 star hotels in Sydney and this would have to rank in the top 5 along with the four seasons, Shangri-la, Intercontinental and the Westin. Modern clean and friendly without being pretentious. The only downer was our bathroom tv not working properly it could have been a flat battery on the remote but we were only there for one night. Breakfast was good without being great offering all the commodities of a full breakfast in sydney.”

“This hotel was no frills but it had everything we needed. We didn't come to swim in a pool or receive room service, so if you are looking for that look elsewhere. Our 1 bedroom family suite housed 2 Adults and 3 Tweens, with an additional bed provided. I loved that the hotel also ensured we had 5 cups, glasses and towels to accomodate extra person. Conveniently located on George St, opposite Campbell St and also backing onto Sussex St, we loved exploring the city. China Town for brekky was just outside the Sussex St door. Within very short distances additional to China Town there is also Paddys Market, Powerhouse Museum, Capitol Theatre, Entertsinment Centre, Darling Harbour and lots of choices for eating and other conveniences, like a $12 haircut. If you are happy to walk, you will be able to walk everywhere, there is an incline into the city. Otherwise there are buses, taxis, light rail close by for local area down there, you can walk to Central station easily as well as Museum and Town Hall stations (if you want a train to Circular Quay). The hotel and our rooms were clean and housekeeping provided. Our room had 2 bathrooms which was a great bonus for a family of 5. There were 3 lifts so not waiting for long. We were given a very early check in, which we appreciated and paid $20 for a late check out, which was awesome too. Another plus for us was that with our room facing inwards, yes it meant view of building but it also meant next to no street noise for a sound sleep on the comfy beds. All in all, I would recommend this for families who want to explore Sydney. Being on the outskirts of the inner city meant that we saw more than we planned. My family loves eating do bring so close to China Town and everything it offers was a definite plus for us.”

Breakfast was included and good value. A mixture of clientelle - old and young. Internet facilities - however there is an internet shop close by. Approximately 20 mins by train from airport and 5 mins from the Museum Station (ok for backpackers, not suitcases as no lift) however airshuttle is good value at 14 AUD. “Swissotel is definitely not the cheapest of hotels in Sydney, but as they say, you get what you pay for. We had a very good first impression of the hotel with the courteous concierge on the street level. The Nespresso machine in our Club Advantage Room was brilliant! Perfect for early-morning and mid-afternoon perk-me-ups. Very close to shopping districts and all major attractions; Circular Quay can be accessed on foot in about 15-20 minutes, Darling Harbour in 10. The hotel is smack in the middle of the Market Street / Elizabeth street shopping district. Sydney Tower is also just 2 minutes' walk away. While we did not dine at the hotel restaurant, there are plenty of food options around - certainly, you won't go hungry here. Town Hall or St James train stations are about 3 minutes away, and the historic Queen Victoria Building is just across the road. Special mention goes out to Mr Ricky of Swissotel: he was our first point of contact upon arrival at Swissotel. Always polite, courteous and exceptional level of service - this is what I call service from the heart! Mr Ricky certainly did a great job at making us feel right at home at the Swissotel and is probably the reason why we would certainly stay at the Swissotel again if we visit Sydney.”

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was made to shorten my trip from 9 nights to 4 nights at Silkari. Was doing my checkout on my last day in Sydney and I told the front desk lady, i presumed is the manager that I will be shortening my trip due to some unforeseen circumstances. I was actually prepared to pay for the 9 nights of stay but she was extremely understanding and sympathetic, where she told me that she will charge me for 4 nights of stay instead. Her excellent service delighted me and really made my stay in Sydney a lot more pleasant despite the last minute of shortening my trip. The receptionist was kind to give us a room upgrade so we really loved the space provided for us. Amenities include toiletries (except dental), towels, hairdryer, mini fridge, mini kettle, coffee, tea and bottled water. Hot water saved us from the freezing temperature outside. Our room has a Smart TV and the channel selections were great. Cons: No bidet. Shower area can use more shelves to place personal toiletries. Internet does not reach our floor; luckily we didn't need it too much as we are always outside. If you are sensitive to noise, this hotel is not recommended because you can hear (and feel) the subway train passing by underground every few minutes. There are also a lot of trucks outside during night for an ongoing construction maybe and garbage collection.”

The staff are very friendly and accommodating especially Ms Joy, a Filipina staff, who even went out of her way and shared some must visit sites and useful tips which came in handy during our trip. Excellent1,901 reviews

“There is no argument that Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour is in a really good location. For those who travel with rented vehicles like me, the parking is $50 a day. Considering that parking is crazily priced everywhere in central Sydney, the price is reasonable. The Australian Maritime Museum is just 5 mins walk away, followed by the zoo, aquarium and Mdm Tussaud's. I walked to Sydney Tower eye in about 10 mins. Sydney fish market is not too far away too. There's a shopping centre just next to the hotel. Just cross a small bridge. Very comfortable 5 mins walk. I tried to get a family room which was 2 double beds but it was still very small. I felt a little claustrophobic in the room. If you do have 4 people in the room, with the luggage and all there's hardly space to walk. If you are a larger family than 4 and thinking of secretly squeezing more people in, I'd strongly advise against it. The amenities were ok. Respectable. Nothing to shout about. Shampoo and all were ok, but no toothbrush provided. Bring your own. Fridge is filled so there's limited space for your own drinks. There is a small minimart just across the street that sells basic necessities which opens until late into the evening. For the price paid, consider the location and the cleanliness of the room. The comfort of the bedsheets, bed and all. The decoration is minimal and it looked 3 star rather than 4. I would recommend staying at the hotel if you are cutting transport costs. Hotel staff are also very friendly. I paid for the buffet breakfast because kids can eat free. I'd say the hotel is family-friendly.”

The twin single room was clean and modern and ideal for a quick overnight stay but a little small if you intended spending more time in the room. Great standard of facilities at a very reasonable price (for Friday night in Sydney). Only downside was, like most hotels in Sydney, WIFI was an extra charge. Don't understand how hotels in small country towns can supply free internet but most hotels in Sydney put excessive fees on internet access.”

At this price, you will not expected luxury room bla bla. Because i am here for a budget travel. So the room is acceptable for me. Level 4 is quiet on the night, i didn't hear any noise from street at all. It is very closed to.chinatown, i felt it is very very safe place to stay. I went out at night, nothing bad happened to me. Sydney is safe place as long as you dont go to some strange alley at night. Once again, if you are after a luxury accommodation with fancy fancy rooms, this is not the place you are after. “I booked a one night stay here for my birthday and I'm really happy I chose this hotel. I got a great deal: the Stay, Park and Play which included parking and breakfast. At check-in, the staff were lovely and upgraded my room to a park-view instead of a city side room. I had originally booked a king bed but the upgrade was a room with 2 singles. I called to enquire if housekeeping could remake the bed as one as I easily pushed them together but for some reason they couldn't. I don't really understand why not.. Also, the bath had some dirty marks around the outside and on the edge but apart from these two things everything else was great. The pool and spa facilities are gorgeous and the view is incredible. I do wish they were open a little later than 9pm but I enjoyed the time I had. The buffet breakfast was insane! I'm not usually worried very much with breakfast but as it was included, I decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did, it was SO good. So many healthy and decadent options, I can't speak highly enough about the variety and quality of what was on offer. I wish wifi was included in the rooms, but it's unfortunately pretty standard for it not to be in Sydney hotels. I hope this changes soon, we're very behind the rest of the world in this regard. Wifi was available in the lobby and where the breakfast buffet was, so I was able to use it then. I'll definitely be staying here again.”

“I had a more than pleasant stay at the Fraser Suites Sydney Hotel. For a start, I arrived at the hotel before check-in time but was given a room without any hassle so that I was able to get a short rest after my overnight flight. The room was spacious unlike most standard hotel rooms and it was stylish and functional. Everything that I needed was pretty much in place so I didn't need to bother the concierge or housekeeping at all. Peaceful and pleasant stay for sure. Will be back!”

I always like the fragrance they choose. The bed is ultra comfy and the linens are soft and silky. We can walk to China town, CBD and circular quay (within 20-30 mins but it’s a nice walk esp u r in Australia). Just pay attention to the room type. Hyde Park is also at most a 5-minute walk. The staff are courteous and helpful. They provide pillows that meets your needs/comfort which is one of the unexpected best part of the stay. I booked a room for 2 but can be stretched for with kids or for 3. It is clean and you can really relax in your room. With the right budget, we will definitely book in Zara Tower when we go back to Sydney.”

“I was there during end of May 2017, with my wife and a young child. The location is great. Woolworth is just nearby. Walking distance to most of the tourist attractions. I have searched a lot other hotels in Sydney, and Primus is by far the best value for the size of room they offer. I booked Deluxe King but I was lucky to get an upgrade to Executive room for free. I didn't take the breakfast offer because we would like to try more local famous cafes and restaurants. The room was clean. There is a construction going on next to the hotel but it didn't affect us much. The staffs are polite and always offer to help. Overall it was a great stay. I would definitely go back again in the future.”

The position of the hotel in Sydney was first rate. 5 minutes to the Botanics,15 minutes to the Opera House and 20 minutes to Circular Quay - by foot! One of the best features was built-in USB charging in the plug sockets - incredibly useful, meaning you didn't have to hunt for your Apple or Android chargers. Apart from the room needing a little better lighting and some cleaning issues, this hotel was literally fantastic. If we ever visit Sydney again, this is where we'd stay!”

Based in a beautiful tree-lined street with views to the Sydney CBD and only 5-15 mins drive away from an endless array of restaurants, cafes, bars and stores. Two bedroom apartment was perfect for four adults and had everything you could possibly ask for and so, so, so much more. All amenities are impeccable with a stunning, indoor pool, sauna and gym for hours of entertainment. In our experience, it is by far the best hotel we have ever been to in recent years in Sydney. “We feel extremely lucky to have stayed at this resort. The customer service was fantastic. A big thanks to Nick the concierge. He was very knowledgeable about activities to do around Sydney and gave us a printout of instructions that made navigating through Sydney’s public transit system a breeze while also ensuring we never went through the same place twice. Furthermore, knowing the many tourists would not fully understand the craziness of New Years in Sydney, Nick pre booked several tickets for the opera house. This set us up with the opportunity to buy some tickets to the opera house to see an opera show and have prime time seats for the New Years fireworks. “My husband had work in Sydney and my Daughter and I tagged along. We arrived with my daughter still recovering from a fever the previous night and the lady at the reception has been very helpful and empathetic. However, during the night my daughter's fever reached 41degrees and we decided to cut our trip short and leave a day earlier to go home. Due to the last min booking of flights, we had to rush and leave the hotel almost immediately after my husband finished his meeting. The porters were extremely efficient when i asked for urgent help with bags. I had to quickly check out and the same lady at the counter helped my expediting my check out. When i got home, i realised that she had only charged me for one night, and forgone the other night that we didnt stay. This is such a nice gesture completely caught me by surprised. She didnt have to do it but she did it. It helped very much with our expenses as the doctor's fees , medicines, and change flight cost were not within our budget. This is excellent service, and i would recommend anyone to stay at QT. ( the rooms were amazingly cool too with free movies/cartoons for the kids!)”

“My friend and I stayed in a twin room with an ensuite- a nice, comfortable room for a hostel. (Some kind of soap holder would have been appreciated in the shower, though the bathroom was clean and water pressure was good!). All the accomodation in Sydney was very pricey during the weekend of the stay- given the fact, the cost of the room was reasonable. Beds were quite comfortable (double bed + trundle), there was a tv in the room (but no wifi) and the hostel is in a great location. Staff were friendly and we also appreciated the 'cinema' room, which has nightly movie screenings. There are also lockers downstairs where you can put your belongings after checkout ($4 for the first 4 hours and then $2 for the next 4 I think). The staff also helped us to book a YHA discount for the Aquarium. Unfortunately it was quite noisy on Saturday night (seemed mostly to be coming from drunks and hoons on the main road) but Sunday night was much quieter. Would stay there again if on a budget!”

The concierge took the time to quickly show me a map of local interests. Bathroom - clean and spacious, bedroom - clean and spacious, power points - many. It really annoys me when I have to hunt for a power point for the laptop/phone charger/ tablet... Tea/coffee available. Somewhere to put two suitcases. How many times do hotel rooms have a place for one suitcase but two people have two suitcases? I was staying in one of the less expensive rooms but would not know it. I had an American guest with me and she and I had a grand time in this hotel. We dined at the hotel and were very happy. Both of us have travelled extensively in Asia but the Sydney Intercontinental was a match for any of the best hotels in Tokyo, Bangkok or Singapore, etc. Well done management, well done staff. The staff are very friendly, the food is amazing! and the beds super super comfy. The whole hotel is super modern with amazing attention to detail and decor. Although the Pullman feels like a hotel for only those that are hip and young (cue most of their advertising campaigns) the hotel welcomes and caters for all travelers - including someone like me with a 12 month old baby who appreciates the modern luxury of a funky hotel.

“I was pleasantly surprised by The Capsule Hotel. If you can deal with staying in a capsule I would definitely recommend it: the capsules, bathrooms and kitchen area is super clean with no imposing odours either. I had no problem getting access to a shower in the morning and was able to make my own breakfast in the kitchen area. A big plus also: THEIR WI FI IS BUILIDNG WIDE! You can use it in your capsule, in the hallways, in the bathrooms or in the kitchen area. This is not always the case. I stayed at two places on this trip to Sydney and despite paying less for the Capsule Hotel it was the better venue. May not be ideal for senior travellers but a definite recommendation to young and middle-aged folks who are travelling on a budget and don't care about lots of space!”

Best Western Plus Hotel Stellar

“It took me a while, browsing through tripadvisor & agoda reviews before settling with hotel stellar. I'm a solo traveler & there were a couple of concerns : location, convenience, & affordability. Location & Convenience : Hotel Stellar is located on Wentworth Ave, in between the city, where you can satisfy all your shopping needs & Oxford road, a vibrant cultural stretch where you can find lots of great eateries & cafes & hippie stores. It is also a relatively short walk to circular quay, where you can visit the museums, the Sydney harbor bridge, and the famous Sydney Opera House. It's a 25 mins walk, and along the way there's lot of other shopping & sight seeing to be done as well. The hotel is also located close to the Museum train station, which is sitting on the Airport & East Hills Line. It's a convenient 15 mins ride to the airport if you prefer to spend A$16 over A$40+ on a taxi ride which may take longer due to the traffic. Rooms & Service : Like most hotels, check in time is at 2pm, but the reception took my request & managed to get me my room before 1.30. Receptionist are all men, but they did make an effort to serve you well. The first impression of the room, is that it's really really clean, no funky smells, and very welcoming. I wouldn't say it fit the 4-5 star category, but it definitely have that serviced apartment feel to it. The bathrooms are also pretty spotless, can't really find any grime or molds on the bathroom walls. The bedroom comes with an attached Kitchenette, which is very well equipped with all the culinary, plates you can think of. Comes with a proper thermal boiler & a microwave oven. What you see from the hotel photos is very much what you get. Fuss-free and gimmick-free. As compared to the rest of the hotels (along with reviews), Hotel Stellar is one of the more affordable hotels in Sydney, bundled with a great location, simple but quality rooms for the comfort you need. I will definitely use this hotel aga”
