Toyoko Inn Shin-takaoka-eki Shinkansen Minami-guchi
"This hotel is located right at the doorstep of Shin-Takaoka Station, which makes it extremely convenient. The bus stop there has a World Heritage Bus which will bring you to Shirakawa-go for sightseeing. The check-in process was hampered by the language barrier between us and the staff. However, they tried their best to communicate with us. The rooms were rather small, but normal by Japanese Standards. The bed was comfortable and provided us with a good night's rest. The room had a wide-screen television but lacked english channels. There was a sign in the lift which mentioned that a simple breakfast was free for all guests staying, which was not mentioned on agoda. The hotel seemed extremely popular as it was fully booked when we checked in. In conclusion, despite the hotel staffs' inablilty to speak english well, this is a great choice if you are looking for a hotel in the area."Show more

"The staff is welcoming, friendly and professional. The room I had was sufficiently spacious and well appointed. The buffet breakfast was generous and included many Japanese options and Western ones. I recommend making the most of the large spa.
The hotel is a walking distance from the station which has a direct link to the new Shin-Takaoka station.
I warmly recommend this hotel. The staff is exceptionally helpful, and this is a great place from which to explore the many sights of Takaoka and its region.."Show more

Yoshinoya Ryokan
"Nice little ryokan near Ainokura. The world heritage village can be accessed by bus, or if you're up for it, a very nice hike. The place is quite old, but that definitely adds to its charm. There's even a tiny indoor bath with real onsen water. The owners speak a little english, and are extremely helpful.
And the best part was the optional dinner. A fantastic and huge meal, consisting of fresh, locally grown ingredients. The sashimi was so fresh it almost swam away from my plate. Overall an excellent place for a foreigner to experience rural Japan, with one of the best meals I've ever had in my life."Show more

Daibutsu Ryokan Hotel
"I arrived the hotel at around 2130 that night. Still, the staff, speaking good English. Welcome me and introduce all the facilities within the hotel and remind me almost everything. It makes a good impression.
This is the first Traditional Japanese-styled hotel I ever resided in any of my Japan trip. You can experience living in a room that it style is common among long-lasting Japanese houses. The Japanese-styled room also provides a mean for me to emerge into Japan culture.
The room is clean and tidy. It also has a television. I can watch Japan broadcast despite that I can sparingly understand Japanese. For the bathroom, many trays are provided to contain your clothes. Also you can enjoy both showering and bathing (warm water bath is already provided. You don't need to prepare by yourself). Soups and Shampoos are already provided. Such a great place to stay with inexpensive price!
You only need to walk about 10 minutes from Takaoka station. You can find it easily if you have a Google map. Also there is a Lawson near the hotel. So don't worry about eating etc."Show more

Minshuku Nakanoya
"Agoda made a mistake with my booking so we got redirected to another options. Our holiday was in the winter month (Late Dec) so the snow was thick and we wasn't having a choice but to just go ahead with whichever option that is willing to provide us transportation to the place. The uncle doesn't speak English at all but was really nice and drove us all the way from nearby Ainokuraguchi village (around 25 mins by car). After that, we were continuously amazed by the uncle's fine culinary skill using the organic fresh ingredients he grew, as well as the sight of snowy mountain the next morning. The uncle also held various activities/workshops like farming, growing organic food, cooking, fishing, making rice wine. We learnt that the minshuku seemed to be popular with the locals during spring/summer time but because of its location, it may be a little harder for us foreigner to pin down the location and little bus information for easier access. It was lovely and unforgettable stay. If you feel like getting lost in nature and need some unwind, come to Nakanoya."Show more

Guest House YAMASHITA-YA
"Hotel is very nice and clean. What makes it greater than the others is the host.
1st.During our stay, We decided cycle to the nearest tourist attraction about 20mins away. It started to rain when we wanted to get back. While we are cracking our head how to get back as we have to catch a bus, to our suprise, the host drove over and come to pick us up. We are so touched with such nice host.
2nd is when we are waiting at the wrong bus stop that is few hundred metres away from the hotel, the host purposely walk over and guide us to the correct bus stop and keep on making sure we took the right bus.
3rd is My wife left her belonging at the hotel and she is not aware of that. The host contacted us wanted to courier the stuff to our next destination.
It's marvelous we could stay at the hotel and met such nice and kind host in our japan trip"Show more
