Tamarindo hotels & places to stay

I absolutely loved everything about this hotel. From the dedicated and outrageously helpful staff, to the fantastic little cottage with a massive clean bathroom with loads of space to put your toiletries.. the hot water was HOT and the pressure excellent. They proved a hair drier which was so helpful. I loved my room, two double beds and a good sized fridge and plenty of space to hang clothes and shelves so you could really feel at home. Having the pool and kitchen was great, and the space outside was comfortable. It felt so safe and as a single woman so protected. They have 3 lovely cats that are supper friendly and this just ads to the homely feeling of the place. I will stay here again

Rooms are small but had everything I needed. Completely updated and clean. Worth more than the price. I stayed in other hotels across the area that were way more expensive but were awful dirty places. Staff was great. I didn’t eat there but the lil garden cafe is adorable and the menu looks great. My only complaint is that they were doing construction that started at 7am! The construction staff was very loud and didn’t care that people were trying to sleep. They yelled and whistled and had no regards for guests. Other than that a great lil gem.

All aspects here were as good as it gets. Rooms were clean and large, beyond friendly owners who are there to help in any way, and a great location. Make sure to have breakfast as well, as their chef cooks a tremendous meal

The guesthouse was clean, comfortable, chill & fun. By far the best thing about Pura Visa Mini Hostel are the staff, extremely knowledgeable about the country, accommodating, kind, helpful, friendly & fun. The dorms were clean & comfortable & the main social deck area is set up with beanbags & rocking chairs to sit or snooze in. Its close to the beach and with in short walking distance to the rest of Tamarindo making it convenient but still quiet enough to get a decent sleep. There's wildlife around too. U can spot monkey's & iguanas around including the resident iguana Fred (he's huge).

I had a very relaxing time there the breakfast was good and the hotel was not noisy and crowded like the bigger hotels

We were in a small room overlooking the ocean (not directly on the beach, though). Air conditioner worked in fits and starts. We came in one day to find a large puddle on the floor under the air conditioner. After several attempts to get the phone to work (apparently, we had to hit the "0" button immediately after lifting the phone, rather than waiting for a dial tone), the front desk sent someone quickly to look at the situation. He vacuumed out the unit and wiped up the large puddle of water, and it seemed fine. Within a few hours, though, it was dripping again. We had to go to a wedding, so we couldn't say anything about it until the next day. The maid simply left a towel under the floor under the air conditioner. The next day, we said something about it to the front desk, and they were rather cavalier, saying "this is Costa Rica, after all." After 3 nights of misery, we requested a new room. This was after we could not sleep at all because the air conditioner was spitting ice and cold water on us in the bed. It was too hot to open the windows. The clerk at the front desk sent us up the hill to look at a downstairs unit, which was supposedly the only one available. It was even smaller and darker and we said it was not acceptable. He checked again, and, miraculously, he found an upstairs unit next to our room. We moved to this room; the air conditioner was better. Be aware that on Friday nights, there is loud music at the bar that can limit your sleep. This was not an issue for us, because we had a function to attend. However, late one afternoon, we received a notice slipped under the door that informed us of a special "ladies' night" event with music expected to last until 2am. It mentioned "provisions would be available at the front desk." On our first call, the female clerk advised us "just have several drinks, and you will sleep through it." On our second call to a different clerk, he told us he had earplugs for those who wanted to sleep.

The hotel was close to town, nice hotel, the facilities were great! The staff very helpful!

I was looking to relax after a very demanding year and Pasatiempo really delivered. The staff is attentive, very friendly and fast if you have any issues. My room was clean and in a good condition. The hotel gardens and the small but well kept swimming pool are great to relax in the sun. The hotel offers booking for a variety of trips, mainly in and around Tamarindo but to San Jose or Nicaragua as well. The open mic nights with local performers were a blast. The bar is well equipped, but closes (apart from events like the open mic nights) early but this is not really a problem since there are countless alternatives in walking distance.

Fabulous little hotel right on the beach at the edge of the National Park, so you can hear the surf rolling in. Easy access for Playa Grande, the National Park for boat trips through the mangroves, and Tamarindo beach centre. Clean and efficient. I had a plague of flying ants one night and they fumigated my room the next morning to solve the problem. They will arrange tours and airport transfers too. Room was spacious with a lovely paved terrace overlooking the ocean - so great for watching the sunset. The only downside would be the need for a kettle and fridge in the room. But there's a restaurant/bar/french bakery on site to fulfil those needs. I only ate from the bakery - and it really was very nice. Would I come back? Yes, great location, close to everything but offering peace and quiet for a proper chill out which you don't get in Tamarindo central.

This five unit complex was ideal for us as we were within 100m to the guiet end of the beach and away from the noise and bustle of the bar scene. We could easily walk the beach into town for provisions or a happy hour. The kitchen was sparten

We had a great time, felt that it was too short of a stay. Highly recommend. Pool and the surroundings are awesome. Not a huge place, so not a lot of people to deal with, just a few snooty people, just ignore them. Lol. Easy to walk to town and the beach from this place, not that far, about 5-10 minute walk. Very secure place. The assistant manager, Kevin, is an awesome guy. He is always there to answer your questions and help people.

Right in the middle of Tamarindo, a touristy surf-town is this awesome hostel. Great prices, awesome people, and tons to do nearby. You can walk to the beach in about 5 minutes, and surfboards can be rented for around $10 per day (ask the locals, not the shops). Such a great place to spend a few days!

Good location clean and the staff very nice, near to the see and the street with bar and restaurant, cleaning every day, I will definitely get back in this hotel apartment.

I paid $ 80 for two nights (with tax) and got a tiny room, with no air conditioning, and no real windows. Since the hotel is right next to the street, it smelled horribly of fuel and burnt meat all the time. At some point the smell was so thick, that I had to rent a surfboard and go out in the ocean to get a breath of fresh air.. location is not the greatest.. the staff was very friendly though, and the grounds are nice and maintained ok..

My friend and I stayed here for the last two nights of our nine day stay in Costa Rica. The rooms are adorable, with fresh, chic decor. The outdoor shower and tub we had in our room was better than most outdoor facilities I’ve had in the past. No bugs! I missed our included breakfast but my friend said it was very tasty and freshly prepared. The hosts are very welcoming and lovely people. I would return!

I do not have enough nice things to say about this hotel. We stayed for 5 nights for a romantic getaway and everything was absolutely perfect. Staff went out of their way to help us and were really friendly. The restaurant attached to the hotel is fantastic and right on the beach. The hammock area right on the beach felt like something out of a dream. The rooms were beautiful and clean. Basically, you would be an idiot not to stay here!!!! would recommend to anybody visiting Tamarindo . Can't wait to go back.

The beach is a public beach which is kind of cool because you get to watch the surfers and folks walk their dogs. The lounge chairs, ( some need repair ) I believe, are saved for hotel guest. To one side of the beach is more public access and a lush national forest. There are rocky parts around the Occidental beach that make it difficult to walk the distance of the beach into Tamarindo. The waves and current were strong while we were there as there was a storm coming in, but we were able to find entrances where we could swim a little. There’s a nice sunset view from the beach Staff was amazing (including Ariel). Very helpful. The food was good. Especially anything coming off the grill area. I personally didn’t care for the desserts on the buffet. The tiramisu at the à la cart restaurant was good though. There is no Wi-Fi in your room. Purchasing Wi-Fi is additional and would need to be used in a Wi-Fi area. Which the majority of is outdoors or in a little office.
