Twizel hotels & places to stay

Someone asked why we were staying in Twizel - it was a dump! We entirely disagree. The motel was off the main road and looked out on birch trees. Twizel means town of trees, and they were beautiful in Autumn. Small village-y feel. By the way - no mountain view from the cabin. Kitchen intuitive, bed comfortable, shower great, lounge great. Very good base en route from Lake Tekapo and close to Mt Cook.

Comfortable cabin rooms! It’s really good to sleep in a heated room during winter. Twizel is a small town to drop by, we chose to stay over night there because we don’t want to tore ourselves by driving to Wanaka or Queenstown. We did not regret it! We caught the most beautiful sunrise during our NZ trip at this holiday park. The lake was beautiful and it’s just 4km away. Staff was friendly, we have met nice New Zealanders who share their journey and tell us where to go. Good place, good people. Kitchen is fully equipped, shared bathrooms are clean. It’s just that the weather in NZ wasn’t being friendly. 😂 I would return to this place! ^^

The motel is located in the centre of Twizel, a 2 min walk can get you to supermarket and cafe, so the location is very good if you plan to get to Lake Pukaki or Lake Tekapo the next day. The facility there is a bit old but is good enough for a short stay. Twizel is a small town so you can’t expect too much.

New zealand is picturesque and beautiful. Matuka luxury captured the essence of its beauty with a touch of contemporary art furnishing and provided a luxurious lifestyle with a heart-warming hospitality from the hosts. Hosts are well-versed with the area and history of twizel. "The accidental town." It was my best stay outside home. (v) Charmaine

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hosts were responsive when contacted and very helpful. Let me say that the views from this place are just stunning! We would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to get out and about in the beautiful countryside or just cosy up and read a book. Thanks for a great holiday :)

The house is clean with hight privacy. Very comfortable!! The host just lives next to us and willing to offer help.

Finding this B&B in a quiet town was like finding treasure. Twizel is a great midway stop between Christchurch and Queenstown and staying in a beautiful place like Heartland Lodge made a one-night stopover feel like a one-week relaxing holiday. The rooms are big, modern,comfortable, with huge gorgeous bathrooms and spectular views to the mountains. The house and grounds are grand and beautiful The hosts are delightful company, who offer and share an evening drink with you while chatting as if you had known them for years. They filled us with a scrumptious breakfast, gave great advice on the best places to eat in town for dinner and as we headed off in the morning provided us with lots of useful information for sightseeing on our way towards our next destination.

Our family love this clean, cozy and comfortable cottage at Twezel. It was really great to meet both Margaret and Peter, they are really friendly. We were also overwhelmed by the lovely welcoming signage. Moreover, I love the black curly-retriever dog, it was really adorable. Last but not least, thank you for hosting us and we hope we will be back again soon :)

Stopped here for a night on the way to Mt Cook and didn't expect much, but we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely room in the building with a shared kitchen, so nice that we went to Twizel to buy the parts for dinner to stay in and cook. Every window faces Mt Cook and it's impossible not to keep looking at it. Decorated very well with old bits and bobs of farm life and just beautiful.

twizel is a great place to stay, not only to visit mount cook, which is approx 55kms away, but also the town itself is very modern, and has a great atmosphere, seemingly for visitors and locals alike. lovely places to eat, some with live music and entertainment, a number of shops, eateries and community happenings centred around a modern "town square". we enjoyed our stay at the mackenzie country inn, the weather was great, so we could actually see mount cook from our room, which was exciting. we enjoyed a lovely buffet meal at the inn's restaurant (not always buffet apparently), and were very happy with the friendly service and helpful and cheerful receptionist.

We were pleased with the accommodation, onsite managers / hosts were very friendly and provided good recommendation for meals. Room was basic but clean and comfy. WiFi also a big bonus! Will stay here if we revisit Twizel in the future!

No wifi provided. Would really love to stat longer if have more time. House is really spacious.

public kitchen did not have utensils. you have to pay deposit to borrow. they also did not provide knife or spoon. only fridge, stove, microwave. too many mosquitos so beware when open the door. but they in good locatio n. the price bit too expensive for what they offer

We stayed here to access Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook which was easily accessible by car. Accommodation was spacious with good cooking facilities and modern interior. Sandy was a caring host and gave us lots of handy tips of where to visit in the local as well on the rest of our travels. Highly recommend

We all had a wonderful stay at this property. The place was clean and tidy and the kitchen has everything in it. The only negative was when we arrived, windows were all opened and flies and mosquitos came in.
