Crowne Plaza Vientiane
Vientiane City Center,Vientiane - View on map
"In terms of professionalism and quality of stay, you can't beat the Crowne. I've stayed here twice and have loved it both times. The staff are professionals (which is not something you should take for granted in a place like Laos, or Southeast Asia in general) and the building is spanking new, as are the big and comfy rooms and facilities. The restaurant/breakfast is vast, including the selections, and the ambiance is definitely upscale. This is probably the most luxuries hotel in Laos I've been in. You do get your money's worth. Pro Tip: don't be a chump and use the hotel (or any hotel's, for that matter) airport shuttle option. Taxis are now readily available in Vientiane and Laos (not the case just a few years ago) so just use the taxi stands. Yes, they will be slightly more expensive than what you'd pay the street tuktuks, but way cheaper (nearly half) of what any hotel shuttle will cost you."

Viryla Boutique Hotel
Riverfront,Vientiane - View on map
"If you think that's a nice mouthful wait until you see what I have served up in the morning - the breakfast is worth fasting for IMHO. The location on the riverbank is lovely with less than 900 metres picturesque stroll to the nightmarket and central Vientiane. Staff are great - no problem too small and all sizes accommodated without a problem. The newly built hotel is well- designed so the rooms are easily navigable and feel spacious. All the important amenities provided and good: air-con, megacomfy bed, secure safe, fridge with minibar and snacks, kettle, free water and toiletries, daily room make-up and towel replenishment, wonderful shower and bathroom, good desk with fast WiFi and LAN. Downstairs a bicycle is available for errands and tables within and out for breakfast and drinks. Well stocked drinks selection including 30 year old single malt. Only slight issue is the swimming pool is more Jacuzzi sized, but then again I've never seen anyone actually do anything resembling actual swimming in any hotel pool in Vientiane. "

Lao Plaza Hotel
Vientiane City Center,Vientiane - View on map
"The Lao Plaza Hotel is probably the best hotel in Vientiane. The rooms are quite nice and well equipped. The location is OK and the staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is good and the dinner buffet is very good with a broad array of food selections. The shuttle bus to the airport runs at only limited hours (I had to take a 5:15 AM bus in order to wait over an hour at the airport before being admitted to the ticket counter to check in for my 7:30 AM flight). Aaron Vientiane Hotel
Near Riverfront,Vientiane - View on map
"After spending nearly 4 weeks around Cambodia and Laos we finished our holiday at the Aaron Vientiane Hotel. Pros - Location, Hot Water,Good fit out by South East Asian Standards (SEA) Cons - Noisy tour groups waking others, elevator ding is loud and disruptive at night (yes it is) , front office employees lacked customer centred approach. Whilst the hotel itself is nice the experience there was substandard. Breakfasts were woeful and not nearly on par with other 3 star and 4 star hotels in SEA. The pool area is stale and uninviting. I would strongly recommend focusing on building some character and atmosphere around the pool area. Pool needs heating so that it is swimmable (weather whilst we were there ranged from 26-29 dgrees c). Finally the front office staff lacked a customer centred focus. Would I recommend the hotel? Facilities themselves are good and its not the worst that I have stayed at. But there are many better boutique hotels out there. "

Green Park Boutique hotel
Sisattanak,Vientiane - View on map
"We stayed 3 nights from 10 Aug 13. We arrived at 10pm local time after some 20 hours travel – the staff were efficient and had us in our room in no time at all. The hotel is a short drive from the city centre, however the hotel offer a free shuttle. Although the hotel is one of the more expensive hotels in Vientiane it is well worth the price. We had a ground level pool view room (room D02) at the rear of the property. The room was more than adequate and had its own patio. What was unusual, and took a bit of getting used to, was the full glass window in the bathroom looking out to its own private garden. The staff are very friendly, helpful, well trained and have good English. The breakfast provides a great variety and the evening meals were excellent. The bar offers a “happy hour” which goes for two hours which is most welcome after a long day of touring. What a way to start our holiday would recommend the hotel. Rating 10 out of 10. "

Lanexang Princess Hotel
Vientiane City Center,Vientiane - View on map
"There are Lane Xang Hotel in Vientiane, one with Princess and the other one is not. We went to Lane Xang instead of Lane Xang Princess because a staff in money exchane show us the way to Lane Xang Hotel. The staff in Lane Xang Hotel then informed us the way to Lane Xang Princess. Lane Xang Princess is just about 15-20 minutes walk from Lane Xang Hotel. The hotel is in front of morning market in Viantiane. It is very clean, new and well maintained hotel. The breakfast is good. It is recommended to stay there. The only weakness is the room is not sound proof enough. We can hear people talking in the other or outside our room very clear....."

"this is a new hotel owned by vietnamese. considering that it's a new hotel, some inexperience staffs is understandable bu it's balance with a very good manager level on each department. some details on the hotel room amenities may be need to be improved but overall it's a good quality hotel for vientiane standard. i asked for a one-day transportation and the manager gave me a good discount! one more thing which is remarkable, the reservation team is very responsive to email before & after my stay and deserved a big thumbs-up! i left something in the hotel room and just realized when i was already in hanoi. the hotel was not only keep my stuffs but one vietnamese manager brought my stuff to hanoi from vientiane on the next day!!!!!! :)"

More about Vientiane

Vientiane is the smallest capital in the world, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. Situated on the Mekong River in the Mekong Valley, this Laotian city has a sub-tropical climate and enjoys life at a relaxed pace.

Vientiane has a mixed heritage still evident in its architecture, its street names, and in its food. French restaurants can be found up and down Avenue Lane Xang. The city is best appreciated by the Mekong, where open-air restaurants serve fresh seafood and Beer Laos well into the evening.

For shopping, most locals and visitors head to Talat Sao – the morning market. Silk and clothing, religious trinkets, DVDs, electronics, and handicrafts are also on offer, and the entire complex is air conditioned, making for one of the more comfortable market experiences in Southeast Asia.

One of Vientiane's top tourist sites is Patuxai, the Victory Gate. Patuxai is a monument in the center of Vientiane that is embellished with mystical Buddhist and Hindu figures and features a viewing platform at the top. Another site, just outside the city center, is Buddha Park, where more than 200 cement statues of Buddhist and Hindu figures inhabit neatly trimmed gardens.
