Cheats and liars”
The Indian touts at the entrance to the building found us, showed us our Agoda booking for Gloria Guesthouse on their phones, then promptly took us to 'another guesthouse' in the complex owned by the same guy. The rooms were nothing like the standard of room we paid for on Agoda. We complained until the 'manager' came and took us to better rooms. They are deceivers, liars and cheats. Good luck if you book with them.

It's a scam!”
The whole of Chungking Mansions is run by deceitful Indians and Arabs who take you to 'other hotels'. Our group paid for more expensive Family Rooms in Gloria Guesthouse, but were taken to 'another guesthouse', nothing like what we had paid for. When we complained, they called the 'manager', who took us to yet another place, which was half acceptable. If you book, take photos from the website, and make sure you complain and stand your ground!

Good Location but not suitable for family at all”
We stayed for 5 nights. It was not an experience that I would like to remember. Here's why: 1. When I reached at late night, I was offered some other room than what I booked saying that it was the same type of room and under same management. As it was late, I accepted. 2. The rooms are awfully small for a family. Practically no space to move around once you bring your luggage. Totally cramped! 3. Next day I discovered that toilet was choked up with foul smell. So on complaint, I was given another room. 4. It was wifi that went off later. Though not the fault of the management, it took 3 days to repair! So no wifi.. Caretaker did share his data pack to help once. 5. When I complained to Agoda, the caretaker was annoyed and repeatedly told me I should have not complained. 6. Since I had prepaid and booked in a non refundable option, I had no other way but to continue.Never felt safe for a family with a teenage child as we could hear people walking in the balconies outside. We were told not to open the window even if there's knock outside as it could be unsafe! And this too when we were staying on 3rd floor.... 7. Chung King mansion houses a lot of such guest houses. One major problem is the lifts. It takes too long a waiting very often. I have seen people eating / drinking on staircases and gave up the idea of climbing up. In nutshell, it is very centrally located. Best suited for a solo / backpacker but I would not recommend this for family at all.

House of Cockroaches”
Ok first of all, to clarify, I actually stayed at Peace Guest House, which is under the same management, who owns 5 different guest houses including Gloria Guest House, all in Chunking Mansion. I was directed to stay at Peace as the room was ready. Perhaps Gloria is better than Peace, but be warned: same building, same management. Yes, geographically, the location is good, right on Nathan Road, with MRT station less than 30 seconds away; but Chunking Mansion itself is full of 'characters'; while I didn't feel unsafe, I can understand how some people would want to avoid the place. The housekeeper Jake, was very nice and accommodating, but that's probably the only good thing about this place, aside from good WIFI. The check in time was actually 1:30PM not 12 noon, but this one is on the management. Now so why is this cheap place not exactly of 'value'? Because there were quite many cockroaches of various sizes, even on my bed too. I'm far from being a fussy traveller, but this was too much even for me. Definitely not recommended.

Every appliances in the room is not functioning ”
We booked at Gloria's guest house around 3 months before our scheduled holiday, but when we arrived there, they transfer us in Taj Mahal without informing us beforehand, saying that Gloria is already full. When we get inside the room everything is not working. From the electric fan to TV, aircon and especially the heater since the water is ice cold. No WIFI for our entire stay either. We booked for 6 days and they only cleaned the room and change the towel twice. The whole place reeked of cigarettes. It is also very noisy that makes sleeping especially at night difficult.

Not NICE 겁나 덩렁웡, 부울치인저얼!”
When we got to the place; it had a sign that we should go to the different place and find the staff - Which took us 20+ min, due to the busy and slow lifts. Around 12:35pm we found the place. But, we couldn't get hold of any staff for 5+min. Got hold of one of the staffs; He said we were too early; the check-in is from 1pm (Agoda stated that our check-in is at 12pm). Somehow we ended up getting a room. The room was filthy! Hair, mould, water everywhere and even little dirt everywhere! Not as nice as the picture!

Shake is great Guest House Manager”
The best part of the whole experience is the Guest House Manger named Shiek - (pronounced "shake") He's a great guy and deserves to work in a top notch quality location and not this place. HE is very respectful and try to make a very bad atmosphere as enjoyable as possible for all the guests.

Don't stay. Not safe”
The staff are great but it's not safe. Around 4000 people in tiny rooms and only 2 lifts per block. No safe fire escape when you think of numbers. Bars on window and 9 story drop from Our room. Didn't stay the 2nd night even though paid. Writing to Agoda next

Really cheap and great location”
You really get what you pay for. If you're going to be out travelling all day, I'd recommend this for the best value for money. The room is a tad small but all the basic necessities are provided (toiletries, hot water, private bathroom, AC). The best part is the location -- heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, just merely 2 min walk away from the TST MTR station. My only gripe is the extremely slow and small lifts required to get to the guesthouse. But then again, for this price, it's not a big deal. Highly recommended for backpackers, considering the typically pricey hotel prices in Hong Kong.

This hotel is located in Chung King Mansion. Unlike rumors, the maximum time I queued up was like 3min. It's cleanliness is impressive. You do your own check in. I have never seen any staff but they are available by phone and get whatever you want done.

Affordable price, easy to go anywhere, great stay
Stayed in this hotel last year with good experiences so I decide to stay again, and it's making great again for the room. Stayed at its new renovated room at another block for this time. Although having bad odors because of outside area, it's not a reason that having bad choice of choosing here. Just be careful for those foreign people before getting in the room. Will definitely stay here again.

You could do a lot worse”
Cost, proximity to transport, cleanliness
If you know what you're getting into (and at this price in such a bustling part of HK, you know there's gotta be a catch), this is actually a steal. As a woman traveling alone, I did have some issues with the Mansions' surroundings some days -- not hassled terribly much /in/ the Mansions, surprisingly, but got groped and/or followed by strange men on the nearby streets on a couple occasions -- but the guest house itself felt pretty secure and closed off from any outside dangers. Since I'm a fairly small person, I had few issues with the room's size, but for anyone more than a few inches taller I can see problems. If I were a bit taller (or just longer of leg rather than torso) I wouldn't have been able to sit on the toilet with the door closed. The bed was also fine for me, but I imagine it would start getting iffy for anyone 5'8" or 5'9", let alone anyone really tall. The cleanliness was good by Chinese standards (I've been traveling around China, hadn't been to HK before to know how it measures up with its peers). There's a slight mildewy smell when the AC is turned on but the bathroom was free of the usual mold spores and the bedding felt soft and fresh. And there's a tiny window! I thought this would be a windowless one for some reason, but you do actually get a (tiny, cramped) view of the building opposite, which I imagine could allay certain kinds of claustrophobia. All in all it's on my short list of places to try to book next time I'm in Hong Kong.

It's a pleasant stay at Gloria and the room is clean. It's definitely worth the money. But, need to beware of the environment downstairs, especially for ladies.
