Real Castilha Hotel
Shabby but don't be afraid to stay here”
In a nutshell: Stayed here for a night, no major complaints. If you get it at a great price and aren't fussy, no problem. Most of the recent reviews seem correct. It would be a poor two-star hotel in North America. Instead of a costly cab ride from the airport you can take the airport bus for R40 as I did and walk from Praca da Republica stop for a couple of blocks if you aren't daunted by the post-apocalyptic downtown core. Pros: -affordable -decent breakfast with awesome fruit -helpful front desk with language caveat below -in-room wifi was excellent -plenty of restos, bars and metro very nearby, you can buy whatever you need from the streets -didn't hear guest noises -cleanish Cons: -there's a construction site next door, looks like it will take several months, they start heavy equipment at 8am -any phone that rings in any adjacent room sounds like it's ringing next to your bed -musty smell in room and bed -run-down area (applies to much of downtown to be fair) -I could communicate with reception using Spanish but not English -only two 'hot' items for breakfast and the eggs were stone cold -those staying with someone else might be put off by the bathroom glass that is more a partial barrier than a true door.
Good value at a good location but that is all”
the hotel itself is not that appealing, english only did give me some difficulties on communication. only few staff can speak a little english. hotel has wifi only and not very stable, no cable which is a negative. breakfast is boring.
the location of the hotel is ok with "republica" station being just a 10 minute walk away and it was just a few stops away from the liberdade area which has all the good japanese restaurants. that being said, the area directly outside the hotel is a little seedy and shady - i would have preferred to stay at liberdade itself considering how i was there almost every day but then again, my purpose was to eat at the japanese restaurants. breakfast was decent and included a simple array of bread buns, ham, cheese, fruits, cereal, scrambled eggs and hot dog in tomata sauce, cakes and fruit juices. the bed and pillow were not very good. they were too soft and provided little support - we had a backache after sleeping on it. the toilet is odd because the door only goes 3/4 of the way with 1/4 uncovered. seriously, why would you do that? i don't want to hear/smell my partner while he is doing his business in the toilet and vice versa! very self-conscious while in the toilet, that's for sure. while our stay was ok, i don't think i would stay here again.
great local rooms small”
we were a bit scared of the city at first from others comments but found that if you left your aparent wealth in the safe you looked like a local and as such you drew no attention and could walk around quite safe this really applies in any city now days
good position and big room”
staff very friendl, a big very g. good breakfast . if you select de lux room it is very big and have a nice bath with jaccusi it is very near the metro and also the airport bus from airport to parc republica. when you walk about 300 - 400 meters to walk
location is not perfect, rooms are so so”
Just one night for a transfer, but I would prefer other hotels
location is good.”
it was nice hotel but old fashioned.the rooms was large and the beds were double and comfortable.location is good.but the hotel has to renovate.
Everything was fine during our stay. For this kind of visit in Sao Paulo (to shop) it is well located and you can go by taxi to the main shop points paying less than
Real Castilha Hotel”
When I booked this hotel, I didn't realize that it was in a pretty bad area of Sao Paolo. Very dirty area of the city and lots of vagrants around outside. The hotel itself was also a bit dirty and worn down; it needs some refurbishing. But, it was quite inexpensive, so you get what you pay for. On the plus side, the staff went out of their way to help me: helping me with a map and directions; helping when the key to the safe broke, etc.
Sao Paulo Center”
The area arround the hotel is surprising for instance one street you will find many shops selling PC's and spare parts. In an other street you will find a lot of shops selling motor bikes. The Hotel is close to Park Republica and you will find here a subway station which connect you to the full system. When you arrive at the Airport you can take the Airport bus which stops at Park Republica. A walking distance of less than 5 minutes remain.
Not The Marriot”
This hotel is cheap and confortable (physically). But beware of scams and don't show around your cameras when you're out. Like I said the noise is terrible so for people with nerve ailments, don't go to this hotel. The staff is nice and helpful. If you need a taxy, go out and ask the drivers yourself. Beware of the dollar to Real exchange rate.
Real Castilha Hotel ”
I was supposed to enter in the room at 12.00 but it was only available at 20.00.
Real Castilha Hotel”
