Massachusetts hotels & places to stay

5 stars for everything except the buffet breakfast. A couple of years ago, we had a fabulous breakfast and were looking forward to it again. Unfortunately, this time the buffet was mediocre and overpriced, at best. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay... location, comfort, cleanliness and service-wise!

A classic Boston experience at an iconic hotel where the likes of JFK, Malcolm X, and Nathaniel Hawthorne passed through during their life journeys. Excellent proximity to the Financial District, Government Center, Faneuil Hall. Indeed, few destinations of interest in Boston are not within walking distance (5-30 minutes) and the Government Center T station (for local subways) is also within a 5 minute walk. I took one of the "traditional rooms" which is quite basic -- a double bed and a writing table, but certainly all one really needs if traveling alone. Very pleasant fitness center and 3 drinking/dining locations right in the hotel (and multiple others within blocks). Parking is not included though there is an independent garage around the corner at 45 Province Street. This was my first stay and I already look forward to returning.

Pros: clean (at least my room was) and warm. Easy to get an Uber. Cons: the staff members ARE friendly but super unprofessional— loudly making personal calls on hotel phones, loudly discussing topics that are a sure HR violation in clear earshot of guests. Lost my mail as well— got a message to pick up a postcard (my girlfriend sent one). Front desk couldn't find it and said they would call. Didn't call. Went again the next day (day shift), and the manager remembered slipping it under my room door. Either they didn't and lost it, or they did and cleaning staff threw it out, as it wasn't there when I walked in. I stayed here 19 days so I got a good sense of the vibe: sloppy is the best descriptor. Note: I'm not saying they were unfriendly: hence 3 stars. But wow. So incredibly unprofessional. I stayed in hotels 120+ nights last year and the this Hyatt was definitely in the bottom 10% in terms of staff training.

Nice hotel in the heart of Boston, friendly staff and spacious hotel rooms with a comfy bed and pillows. The rooms are modern, fresh and clean, my only negative comments are that the bathroom is extremely small given the size of the room, the toilet bowl in the room was old and the bowl itself was scratched which made it look like it was dirty even though it was not; and the “Facility Fee” being added at the end of the stay which was about USD70 for facilities I never used nor aware of what they were. Just something to be mindful of. I would however definitely book this hotel again, great location and price.

Great view to the ocean, not so far away from the downtown by a water taxi $20 return if you buy a ticket from the reception. Taxi is approx $50M return, takes 20 or 25 mins with traffic, so 15 mins by water taxi is a nice trip when the weather is this nice. Room is beautiful, there is a complementary airport shuttle, staff is helpful, overall great value comparing to what I was quoted in other 4 stars hotels in downtown this week. Happy with the choice, would probably stay again.

location is absolutely amazing. downtown and only few minutes from the airport. the room was super clean and new. the breakfast is great too. giving 5 stars rating eventhought the 2 reception staff we encountered on arrival were not really welcoming the customer. I put this on the fact it was a storm day in Boston but still a smile and positive attitude would have been appreciated. overall satisfied and will come back

We stayed at this hotel as a group. It was excellent value for money. The location was not as convenient as we would have wished as we were in Chinatown, however that turned out to be a nice surprise as the food near was cheap and good. Not too far from the subway either. The facilities were extremely clean, the room spacious (2 queen beds in 1 room), bathroom quite large, and bed very comfortable. The staff were pleasant and greated us with cookies and kindly told us to go back to them if we would like more. Overall good value for money.

it's okay but not the best one. and it was built many years ago, so it's a little old fashion. but it is a good price in downtown Boston.

We had a comfortable stay at the Royal Sonesta for 6 nights during the 4th of July holiday. The location was in a perfect spot, close enough to public transportation, a short distance from the center of the city, across a mall with a CVS and restaurants/food court. It is walking distance to the Museum of Science, and right off the Charles River where there is a path that is popular for biking, running, walking. It was a perfect place to travel with family pets. A parking garage is available but I don't believe it's guaranteed... we came back one night and it was full even though they were aware we had brought a vehicle. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend!

The hotel located in a strategic location in Boston. The hotel is connected to a shopping mall. Around the hotel has many restaurants and places to see such as Boston Common park. The room rate is affordable for 5 star hotel.

If you happen to stay overnight to continue flying the next day, then this might be a good option. Note, if you are to book further in advance you won't be stuck paying extremely high prices for a typical room stay; as I did. The staff was tremendously helpful during my stay. I can only wish that with such prices their would have been a continental breakfast included. In fact, everything was charged a la carte; except for the coffee and tea located in your room. No refrigerators in the rooms. Bathtub was extremely small, in case you were thinking of soaking in the tub after a long flight. Room was fairly quiet and they do allow pets, if traveling with a furry friend; which I was at the time. Bed is comfortable and room is a fairly good size. They will allow you to stow away your belongings even after check-out, until your flight; which is very helpful. You may even utilize their lobby wifi and chill in their nice lobby while awaiting your next flight. Even better, is the ability to hop on their shuttle; which departs every 15 minutes or so and jump to a train location to visit the beautiful city of Boston between flights; which I highly recommend. The only thing is, when you text or call for a pickup it may take a while. So if it's too cold or you don't want to wait, simply jump on a bus that leads towards the airport; which you can find directly in front of train station every couple of minutes. My final note would be, if you decide on this hotel... Simply cart your belongings over on one of those airport carts; as the walk isn't that bad at all and more over you can cart your belongings into your room, then cart them over to concierge until you are ready to cart them back over to the airport. This is something you wouldn't be able to do if you decided on taking the hotel shuttle over and to me a little walk after being seated for so long is very satisfying.

With Boston in the World Series, most hotels had boosted prices. It was difficult to find a hotel near Cambridge or Downtown for less than $300/night. Although I would have preferred to spend less for a 3.5 to 4.0-star hotel in West Cambridge, Freeport's prices were comparably reasonable in the context of demand. Frankly, my expectations weren't high, especially when my daughter, who lives in Somerville, hadn't heard of the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. When we drove up, she recognized it instantly. It was the perfect location for us, and only a walk into Harvard Square. Good facilities, friendly staff, very convenient shuttle services, and attached to a Starbucks.

The hotel is conveniently located. Front desk staff, Cal, and the concierge team were most helpful and welcoming. All was great until housekeeping on the last day of my stay. Though the chambermaid dried up the restroom, she knocked over my toiletries. After shifting some of the items in the restroom during the cleaning, she also failed to put them back to their original places. For one, she left the complimentary shower gel and shampoo on the toilet bowl instead of the showering area where they originally were. I did not move or use the complimentary shower gel and shampoo. She also turned my toothbrush upside down for no apparent reason. The towels were also placed haphazardly and they were in such a mess, they seemed like they were used. Overall it was a disappoint end to the otherwise wonderful stay.

Beautiful hotel and location. The staff was beyond pleasant and our room was great. It didn't have any sort of fridge so we couldn't keep any food.

This is a great hotel and the location is the best. The hotel has great facilities, starting with a fun bar downstairs. The gym is really well equipped with Lifefitness equipment and lots of it. We had a Junior suite that overlooked Copley Place. As soon as you walk out the front door, you are in Copley Place and that is the place to start in Boston. It is only two blocks away from Newbury Street and through walkways, you can walk through to the Marriott hotel and the shopping mall. Our hotel room was nice and spacious. The bathroom for a suite was tiny and bit surprising. The internet is very slow.

Check in day was confusing as the hotel was going to charge me for the room for which I already paid in full back when I made the reservation. Also charged my credit card for $50 for incidentals for which I did NOT have any. I am VERY upset with that. Did not have a remote control for the television and it took two phone calls to finally get one.

It was a great experience. The bellman was very kind and helpful. He was so far the best and carries the hospitality of the hotel best. Such a hardworking guy. Sad i failed to get his name. I guess he is the only black guy as the bellman.

Very clean hotel with nice staff. Not in the best area, but everything was really accessible by uber. would highly recommend for the price we paid.

I arrived at the Godfrey after 1 am and resigned myself to paying the added fee ($55) for the valet. I parked the car curbside, about 20 feet up from the hotel entrance but within the valet-designated area. I didn't take care to park it very close to the curb because I assumed my car would be moved within minutes. It was actually sort of sticking out into the traveling lane, but again: I thought it would be moved immediately. Several hours later, I woke up hungry (having not eaten) and ventured out to get something (at the extremely sketchy 7-11, where the locals were having a beef with the manager who was screaming and threatening to close the store.) When I left the hotel, I was surprised to see my car still parked in the same spot I had left it. I spoke to the front desk and they moved the car at 3-4 am. I was also charged $77.89 for the $55 valet parking. (plus $10 tip) I assume they added state and Boston hotel tax to the quoted cost. Never seen that before.

Location is in the heart of Boston; good walking or train distance for the best spots Price is a bit high for what I got for my room Small room and the shower can a bit hard to use. One elevator makes a trip to and from the room a bit long

My only "con" is that I have had much better free breakfasts at the hotel chains. But this won't deter us from going back!! Beautiful place, comfortable bed, clean, friendly staff and visitors from far & wide! Hot tub in pouring rain on the edge of the sea = serenity!!

The staff was really helpful in terms of car rental assistance and printing our itineraries for a cruise. Did I mention they were dog-friendly? The room service was superb and they can even serve your pets the best food that are good for them. Food choices for their restaurant were excellent. The bar and lounge at night will keep you going even after a tiring day. The rooms were designed classy and trendy. Everything else are well-thought of. WIll definitely refer it to friends and might even visit them for a cocktail or two :)

Overall this hotel was ideal for us as first time visitors to Boston. Very close to many of the places we wished to walk to, stations, markets,waterfront etc etc. Chilled water bottles on each floor was a nice touch, as well tea/coffee & snacks in the foyer. The only issue we had was the advertised size of the room. Stated as 37sq M in size but actually nearer 25. Asked about this at reception but was told all the rooms were this size so the description of the room should be altered to reflect this. It was the room size that swung the decision of hotel. for us.

The rooms were not ready until past 3 pm but afterwards the suite was a very nice surprise. Very spacious, clean and with all amenities. The hotel shuttle service was invaluable since took us to all main points of the city with very convenient schedules. The breakfast buffet was a little expensive for our taste and the parking fee simply outrageous: per day! Otherwise it was a great stay...and their welcome cookies are the best!

It was a good hotel, but one of maneger didn’t tell every booking staff that my booking was changed. So we couldn’t enter our room until one of staff asked maneger.

I really liked this hotel. The room was beautifull and clean. The was staff great and I would stay there again.

The room service was really good! Especially the sea salt caramel cake. I always like staying at a Westin hotel, because the quality is consistently good. Beds were comfortable. The only complaint I had is that the air conditioning didn't seem to get very cold.

This hotel is in a perfect location for marathon weekend. Being just across the Charles River in Cambridge, rates were very reasonable compared to the inflated hotel rates in downtown. Plus, it's a short walk to the T (green line) which takes you right to the gear check and bus stops for the trip out to the start of the race. Lastly, they had a nice breakfast setup for runners with bananas, granola bars, gatorade, water, etc. Would definitely stay here again if I choose to run Boston again!

When I checked in the carpet is not so cleaned but it does not disturb our stay. I called and they asked me to get the vacuum at 11th fl and I have to clean on my own.
