    Hotel too old”
This hotel needs badly to be renovated especially the bathrooms. The furnisher in the bathroom were broken... the chairs in the balcony were rusty. ... The swimming pool is really small and it's only 3 chairs for everyone to share!!!! The staff was not really nice and not really helpfull.. We were in Polynesia for our honeymoon we finished the trip in the Royal Tahitien (which by the way as nothing royal at all) With our booking we specified that we were on honeymoon as the booking site Agoda asked us but nothing was done for that! We didn't get anything such as a bouquet or a welcome drink or even a flower necklace as it is custom in Polynesia. We were really desapointed of many things. I would not recommand this hotel to anyone.

    Overpriced and slack”
This hotel is in a great location on the beachfront and with a magnificent park but unfortunately is very disappointing because of sloppiness. Some lights are not working in the rooms, no drinking water is offered even though they say the tap water is not drinkable, the spa/jacuzzi is broken, only pffering cold water without bubbles and o one cares about reparing it. Wifi is only available in the restaurant unless you pay extra prohibitive extra charges per hour. I booked a hotel transfer two months in advance, sent a reminder on the day and they still forgot about me. No need to complain, no ome cares, better book another hotel.

The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are sparse and in need of upgrades. ”
For the money it was good. However a distance to downtown. If you rent a car have a good map., compass, and or GPS. The maps given by rental company and hotel not very correct. And, street names are very hard to find if there are any to be found. Reception desk was at RT hotel very nice and helpful.

Not a place to sleep in”
The room was not a problem, comfortable and adequate. The restaurant nice. It was the roosters that run wild that totally spoil this place. Crowing from 3am onwards and often right outside the window where you are sleeping.(or trying to) With having to work all day there was no time for an afternoon sleep to get over the nights being kept awake. ;o(

We saw in previous reviews that the hotel was dated and that is absolutely true but we needed a room for the day as our flight didn't leave until 11pm. The room was a good value for that purpose. I wouldn't have wanted to stay for the night.

Great for relaxation, not so much for sightseeing”
This is an excellent, reasonably-priced hotel for relaxing in the sun. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. It's far enough outside Papeete, however, to make shopping and touring difficult unless you have a car. Just be aware that there is nothing around the hotel for the tourist.

Great location - only if you have a car”
I read a lot of reviews of the Royal Tahitien before I booked, and I booked it mostly because of its location. And if we had a car, it would have gotten an excellent rating. A taxi to the hotel from either airport or downtown is $25 - $30. The buses are quite comfortable, but do not run regularly - AND STOP RUNNING AT NOON ON SATURDAYS, AND DO NOT RUN ON SUNDAYS AT ALL. The hotel is older, but they have remodeled the interiors of the rooms. Our room was recently painted, new wallpaper, furniture and lamps. The floors in all the rooms were nicely tiled. However, even though the lamps were plentiful, they were not well located, and since the nightstands at the bed are attached to the headboard and are very low, it was difficult to read in bed. The bathroom could use new faucets - and the caulking around the tub was not done well - but it was clean. Many of the reviews referenced a musty smell in the room - which is quite common in tropical areas. We opened the slider and the front door of the room, and in 10 minutes, the smell was completely gone. The grounds are beautiful, all of the rooms face the garden, not the water. The pool is tiny, but very nice. Some of the reviews referenced trash on the beach - the hotel is right opposite the opening of the harbor which leads to the yacht club and the tide brings all of the debris directly to the beach in front of the restaurant area. The beach is quite narrow with a sharp dropoff and not suitable for swimming or wading, but it is lovely to sit on the restaurant patio and enjoy the view. (If I were the manager, I would send someone out every day to pick up the trash - a 5 minute job.) The restaurant is quite pricey - $70 for two fish burgers and two beers - the cheapest thing on the menu is $25 (burgers). They come with a raft of delicious french fries. The hotel staff is friendly and very accommodating - reception attempted to rent us a car from 3 different agencies, but last minute availability and or p

About as good as a 1970's US motel”
Nice restaurant facing the ocean, can't think of two more nice things to say
Up to the standards of a 1970's US motel. Two bath towels provided for 2 adults, no face towels, no wash cloths, only the 2 bath towels. Hair dryer not included, had to obtain from front desk, then it quit working. No free wi-fi, but they are happy to sell you a card to connect with a local commercial service. Cold, tile floors throughout, but no slippers, no robes. Long way to town and absolutely no commerce anywhere walking distance from hotel.

Comfortable hotel for a short stay”
Reasonable rates, helpful staff and proximity to airport and town centre.
This is an older hotel that's in the middle of renovations - the rooms are clean and comfortable while being a little basic. Staff very helpful and the hotel is close enough to the centre of town for you to use the local bus service into Papeete. It's more of a stopover location than a resort hotel.

Large hotel rooms located on beautiful property (a”
Large beautiful grounds, superb restaurant and large, clean rooms (some with ocean view)
We stayed at the Royal Tahitien for four nights in late March 2014. We stayed in a large 2nd floor room which had an ocean view overlooking the grounds of the hotel from the balcony and a view toward the mountains from the entrance door. The room had twin beds which could be converted to a king, a/c mini fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen TV with only French language programming and balcony furniture. Unfortunately during three days of our stay, the hotel had booked three children's birthday parties which lasted from approximately 12 noon to 6pm on each occasion. Due to the pool being very small, the children at the birthday party completely overtook the pool and surrounding area making it impossible to utilize by the guests staying at the hotel. The huge grounds were also often overtaken by games and general running around of the birthday party guests. When we brought this matter to the attention of management, we were informed that in future they would not book 3 parties in a row. The only other comment we have is that the hotel seems to be short of towels and we often had to wait for laundry to be done before we could get replacement towels. On one day we were only provided with one bath towel for two people for a 24 hour period. We also had to wait 24 hours for pool towels. A further small investment in more towels would alleviate this problem and go a long way towards customer satisfaction! These observations were passed on to management prior to our departure and satisfactorily resolved.

Hotel landscape is beautiful, should remodel fast”
hotel room is spacious, could leave luggage in the room instead of put into storage the moring check out, even use room shower for mid-night flight, as long as we eat at hotel restaruant
Front desk's hostess is lovely friendly, only that we have to change room to grand level as there is no elevator for the luggage. Hotel guest not many properly part of rooms under renovate... the only thing upset us was the construction underwent so earlier in the morning before 7:00am that we have to ask them stop but they continue so spoke to front desk then they gave us another room for sleep and later use the bathroom.... Front desk should have gave us room far from construction site in the first place....night shift staff was very helpful provided his website care for my roommate when one hour card was not available. front desk area was too dark, should put on lights...HOTEL IS NEAR BEACH BUT HAS NO ACCESS GO TO THE BEACH, THERE ARE FENCES.

Excellent place to stay beore and after a cruise.”
The staff was very helpful, the location was great for getting around and the grounds were beautiful.
We stayed for two day before and after a cruise of the islands. We arrived at 7:00 am the first time and thought we would have to wait for hours to check in. We were greeted by Jasmina by our names at the door when the taxi arrived and she said our room would be ready in 15 minutes and to have a coffee and it would be ready. The first stay was on the 2nd floor and in an older room but everything worked great and it was clean. The second time we arrived around 10:00 am we were once again greeted by Jasmina and directed this time to a newly remodeled room on the first floor. This room had a complete kitchen with refrigerator and was very comfortable. It was too bad it rained most of the time we were there but it dampen the great service provided by the staff.

they arranged for shuttle from airport at night and to the ferry the next morning. the bed was comfortable.
we would not recommend staying here. the entire place is very rundown and outdated. we had a tough time finding our room in the dark and only did so because we had our own flashlight. there were no pillows ion the bed, just bolsters that were dirty...no pillowcases. a very low budget hotel for way too much money.

Decent kitchen including stove, oven, pots/pans, refridgerator. Easy access to beach, although it's not the most amazing beach.
If you want to keep costs low, it's totally possible to walk to the nearby Carrefour in Arue and buy ingredients, then cook in the room.
