Windermere City Center hotels & places to stay

Had an excellent stay at the Glenville House. Hotel was situated centrally between Windermere and Bowness on Windermere. Very short walk to either so it was excellent to make the most of a short weekend break. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well designed and the breakfast selection was fantastic! All food sourced from local produce and excellent quality. Free special touches like the carrot cake and white chocolate lollipop's for guests staying at the hotel were very nice to come back to after long walks out all day. Highly recommend this hotel for people wanting a short stay which offers flexibility to see and do as much as you can in a short space of time due to its location.

My husband (a senior citizen) and I stayed in Kirkwood Guest House, Prince's Road, Windermere City Center, Windermere, UK during 14 - 16 June 2018. We were visiting from Singapore. The Guest House is situated approximately midway between Windermere Railway Station and Windermere Lake (Bowness). The location of the Guest House is ideal for exploring the place by walking. Paula and Richard - our hosts accommodated us in a Double Room with Four Poster Bed with a nice view of the serene neighbourhood. Both of them were friendly, polite, hospitable, caring, and helpful. The complimentary, sumptuous breakfast had a wide choice and it was always served with a smile. There are a lot of eateries and souvenir shops nearby and all of them are within the walking distance. On the date of our departure, it was drizzling and the weather was not so favourable, so Paula sensed our uneasiness and she arranged a taxi for us to go to the Railway Station at a nominal price. That was a great parting gift!

Anthony was lovely to meet and his bnb was lovely. Very clean, cosy and delicious breakfast. Quick walk into Windermere, where I'd Highly recommend there local brewed stout!

Everything was great except that I was the only one in our group that did not have a bath tub in my room. We all booked at the same time and paid the same price. I spoke with the reception and they said that I should have requested for it even though the pictures shows that the room that I have booked has an en-suite with a bath tub.

I was travelling from Manchester north to the Lake District with no specific place to stay other than likely in Keswick. When I discovered the road was shut down due to the flooding I decided at the last minute to stay in Windermere. Discovering Holly Lodge on an app, I booked a wonderful clean room close to town with a car park. It also provided breakfast which was scrumptious. The proprietor was helpful and friendly and the B&B is located right around the corner from a market and a wine shop and tons of restaurants. All of this for a price that was more than reasonable. I'd happily stay here again.

Myself and a friend just had an overnight stay (unfortunately) at "Rum Doodle". We could quite happily have managed a few more nights. The house is amazing to see, an awful lot of thought and imagination has gone into it. It is quirky and a lot of fun. The house was very clean, inviting and everything is top notch. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice from the buffet, cereals, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, toast etc, followed by an excellently cooked full English! There is a breakfast menu with many more options. The location couldn't be better, close to Bowness and Windermere. All in all we had a very much needed and welcome break and will definitely be booking again the next time we have a "Girlie" break.

The attic floor which housed the 4 of us was a little small but we were ok as we only stayed for a night. The location was superb & our lovely hosts were very friendly. Was especially thankful to Michelle who allowed us to store our 5 pieces of luggage in the premises till after lunch. Windermere is a lovely place & we will return to spend more time to explore the next time.

Lovely weekend away in the centre of Windermere - on a quiet road with free off road parking spaces. Modern design in the bedroom with a really comfy bed and pillows. The breakfast choices were really nice, and even home made bread for the toast!

A traditional British B&B which give us homestay feeling. The owner is very nice and helpful. only 5-10 min walk to the Windermere rail station. There are travel info centre, bus stops, supermarket etc next to the station which is very convenience to traveller.

We were warmly welcomed by Ms Marie Dobson who was exceptional courteous and friendly. The guestroom was very sweet with romantic wall frames & decorated stuff. The room was also cosy and bed comfy. There was also a fridge, hairdryer and a heater to meet our needs. The room was cleaned everyday during our 4nights stay. The train station, pubs, restaurants & supermarket were all nearby and we were surrounded by pictureque buildings in a short distance we strolled along. Andy was a driver cum tour guide who brought us around Windermere that included a scenic boatride along the Lake Windermere. It was a very satisfying trip with Andy as a Guide.

It is not in the middle of Windermere Town, which in itself is not a bad thing, because the traffic seemed to be very busy in town... it is also a decent distance to the Village of Bowness where there are decent eating places. Breakfast was a good Full English Breakfast spread with bread, cereal and fruit stations. Locals seem to like to come there for a leisurely breakfast... says something about the quality. Rooms are a bit dated, but service was friendly and excellent. There is an indoor swimming pool... didn't try it but for those who are looking for facilities, it looks a decent 15-20m long.

Rainy days and bad weather. Still hotel was OK. Dining a bit on the expensive side but breakfast very good and nice. I paid 138 GBP/night but could have stayed at 100. Umbrellas available. On the bad side: The whole windermere place is something ike an amusement park. I realize that this is the case for most people in Europe if they want to go places - there is not much room left and if there is, they make some sort of arrangements that should spice up your vacation. At high cost. I was going there for nature and the W Wordsworth saying: The lovliest place on earth man has seen. This is not the case. It is crowded with much too many cars and busy traffic. Arranged tours and walks in places where I believe you are not allowed to fins your own ways. Constrained. The lake is OK, but surprisingly smal. The Wray castle is not medieval but built in 1900s and so on. I do not really understand how people can spend a vacation there, 1-2 days is enough. No - leave Lake district and go north. I suggest some Scottish Isles (i.e. Isle of Skye) for more contemplative vacation.

We could not have wished for a more perfect stay in the Lake District, a very easy find in a perfect location, just a minutes walk from Windermere Town and 20 mins stroll from Bowness. It was raining when we arrived and we were met with Unbrella's in the car park, help with our bags, Tea & Coffee, Biscuits and a full overview of the surrounding area, great places to eat (Fantastic recommendations) and this was followed by 3 nights stay of what I can describe as the best experience I have ever had from a Hotel stay and I have stayed in probably well over a hundred different hotels of different price brackets around the world. The staff are amazing and put so much care into everything they do for you, never have I felt so at home in a hotel before. The place was so lovely and for anyone looking for that very english feel to a stay, I'm sure visitors from abroad especially this will be a highlight, it was so nice and quaint with lots of attention to detail in the house and rooms. The breakfast was incredible with so many options to chose from and they really do seem to want to make sure you are full for your day's activities, the larger portion of the full english was amazing and it all seems to be sourced locally, well it certainly tasted like it :) We will certainly be coming back to this hotel again if we are in the area. A must!!!

Our room was really clean and tidy, full equipment. Delicious breakfast and nice location, only 6 mins from railway station, co-op and sainsbury were nearby.

Everything is good in this hotel. It smells good. But the toilet in our room is outside our room, it is a bit inconvenient. Moreover, there is no reception in this hotel. You have to call the host to check in and out. It is not convenient for tourist who do not have a phone number in UK.

It was very nice experience staying in this charming hotel, walking diatance to train station, city center, friendly staff, nice decoration and great breakfast!

We stayed in the Tivoli suite for 2 nights. I think it's the best suite from the hotel. The room was very spacious and cleaned. The decoration made the atmosphere of the room very romantic. The spa / hot tub room was amazing and added that special touch for our first weekend away together as a couple. The steam room in the bathroom was perfect too to relax before a nice shower. The bed was very comfy with lots of duck feather pillows and a large and warm duvet. The TV was very big with lots of channels to choose from (there's also a tv in the spa / hot tub room) We were welcomed with a glass of prosecco at the check in and the staff recommended us the best places for dinner. The town centre is walking distance too. We wish we could have stayed an extra night but the hotel was fully booked for the weekend and we had to change hotel for the last night. But we will certainly come back. So many things to do around and we can then look forward to go back to the hotel and relax in a hot tub. Highly recommended if you want a romantic weekend with your special one :-)

Ken & Cindy were fantastic in providing all the information you might need to navigate Lake District. The breakfast was awesome as well.

We stayed in the Windermere room for 3 nights and it was the best B&B experience ever! There was a wide variety of breakfast options and everything tasted incredible. Denis & Anita took the time to chat with guests at breakfast time - they were very welcoming and offered some really good sightseeing tips. Room was clean and equipped with everything you would need. You also get a view of the fells from the living room window. Overall a great experience and it is highly recommended!

The property is equidistant between Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere townships, and is very well maintained and staffed. We booked the large room with the super-king bed, and were impressed by the size of the room and the amenities. It was really nice to have real soap after so many properties only providing tube body wash! Kudos to Rich and the team, including for an awesome breakfast range - the most diverse I've seen and you order the evening before so they can order the fresh produce.

Great location, 10 minutes walk from Windermere station. Hosts were super friendly and served us delicious full English breakfast everyday!

I love my single room, the room No4. The room got anything I need, and the bed is comfortable. Love it! Love it ! Love it!

Wonderful place. Andy and Tracy were so welcoming with tea or coffee and delicious home made cookies on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Very clean and comfortable. Well placed for eating out in Windermere. Longer walk into Bowness. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

Green Gables is a small B&B, it provides everything you need I didn't get to try the breakfast as I was out early however, my partner and family said it was fantastic. Maybe next time I will get to sample it, great location for exploring Windermere.

We booked a small economy room for 2 nights and did not expect much. But the room & bathroom, though small, suit our needs with comfortable beds and good shower. Maureen, the host, is warm and thoughtful, and we especially loved her home-baked bread. We had a lovely time staying at Beech House.

selfcatering is really a blessing in touristy and expensive windermere. its especially good for a family/ big group of 4 too. the living/ dining room is great for hanging out and two toilets in a house for 4 people makes getting ready in the mornings a much faster affair. however, the homeowner is REALLY fussy. she gave us like a 30min pep talk about how we need to keep the house nice and clean and neat and all that stuff; when most tourists want to leave immediately to sightseeing after dumping their bags and washing up. and i to quickly rush off after returning my keys to escape another pep talk on untidy tenants and how little she makes from renting her rooms out. -___-
