Traveler impressions of Arau

More about Arau

Arau is the royal capital of Perlis, home to the Royal Palace and much of the royal history of the state, even though the actual capital of Perlis is Kangar, located about 15 kilometers west of Arau and often more popular among travelers. However, the smart and patient traveler will find that Arau has a lot to offer in terms of quiet scenery and historic significance, so a couple of days in Arau would be well spent.

The Arau Train Station brings travelers to Kuala Perlis, which then leads to popular vacation destinations such as Langkawi and Thailand. Therefore, the Arau Train Station is actually one of the busiest stations in this area, as travelers are going through here to get to the port at Kuala Perlis and start their vacations.

Royal Palace is definitely a destination that should not be missed while visiting Arau. This red-roofed palace is the biggest landmark of the town, displaying the history of the region with the building’s colonial, British, and Moorish influences clearly intermingling in the style of architecture.
