We were very happy with our stay at Hotel Shattuck Plaza. Great staff and location is right across street from BART station. We'll be coming back!

As a Indonesian mother who loves to travel together with my 2 teenage kids, especially when we stayed in this hotel, when we accompanied my oldest daughter who are accepted in UC Berkeley, we felt very touched with the warmth showed by this hotel for welcoming the new students of UC Berkeley Class 2023. I love as well, with the cleanliness of the room and the freshness of beach atmosphere surrounded this hotel.

Overall I was very pleased with my room for the price. The parking lot was enclosed and well-lit so I wasn’t worried about my car getting broken into. Large flatscreen TV w/ cable, blow dryer, fridge, and microwave. The bathroom was clean and updated. The room had wooden shutters for added privacy (no grungy curtains, yay!). I only wish the mattress had a complete cover on it for sanitary reasons/to protect from bed bugs, etc.

While the hotel has the potential to be a quaint urban gem, with an old city building charm and a very friendly staff, the cleanliness of the rooms let everything down. The bathroom shower had hairs from a previous guest in the drain and on the soap holder, the window sills had a layer of dirt that let me write my name and the floors left the soles of my slippers, that were brand new, black with dirt. Also, the black out drapes on the sliding glass balcony door were falling off the hooks. The balcony would have been enjoyable, but all of the furniture out there was crusted with caked on dirt that didn’t appear to have been touched for some time. To be fair, the rooms seem to have been refurbished recently and the finishing s were fine, but the lack of concern by management for the importance of following through on the room cleanliness was apparent as the things I describe were not from one missed cleaning, but showed a consistent lack of follow through on their part.

It's an excellent stay. Stay for 4 night. Nice and clean room. Easy access to public transport. Will surely recommend for those who want a great stay in Berkeley with value for money.

the stay was great. the room was clean. the price was good considering the location and that the hotel is pet friendly I asked for no room service my request was respected. a week prior to my reservation I tried calling, emailing, and messaging the hotel through the app to add another night to my reservation never received a reply and everytime I called the line was busy. the second night there my key did not work I was not able to enter my room all my belongings and pets were inside the room, this location doesn't have someone on site at all times so there was nothing I could do! I was not the only one with this problem that night. luckily I found another hotel to stay at when I went in the morning to tell them what had happened the lady at the front desk didn't seem to concern she said she needed to reactivate my card and she would speak to the person who gave me my card. she refunded that night but it's something that should have never happened in my opinion.

beware that there's no elevator so you have to carry your luggage by statirs upto 3 floor. And in the room, there's no fridge and no coffee pot meaning you can't get either cold or hot water

This is a lovely hotel based only a short walk from the UC Berkeley main campus. It has a fun college-room style theme to the bedrooms which is a nice design choice that makes good use of the small space. It is perfect for a short stay in Berkeley, though is perhaps more suited toward the individual academic traveller rather than a couple. I would definitely stay here again.
