Bukittinggi is historical city in Indonesia. We may found many major attractions here. You can see the Ngarai Sianok, House of Bung Hatta (one of Indonesian founding father), Japanese Tunnel, Gadang Clock and if you have much time you can visit the near cities/places like Harau Valley, Maninjau Lake, Singkarak Lake, Pandai Singkek (fashion and handcraft) and Mountains.
I recommend you to bring your families to this cities.
is a crowded town. the weather is a bit cold at night and slightly warm during the day. be prepared to stay awake early as the Quran recitation and call for prayer is started as early as 5 am from few mosque around the city and can be heard clearly.
The best place to see the beauty of West Sumatera. You have to stay at The Hills, see Lake Maninjau, Lake Singkarak, Sianok Canyon, Japanese Tunnel, Gadang Clock Tower, Pasar Aur (traditional market), and visit Lembah Anai (Anai Valley).
Don't forget to taste their authentic food such as Sate Mak Syukur, Kue Bika, Keripik Sanjai, and Rendang. Their food are pretty salty, so have to be careful in picking restaurants. Overall, it was a beautiful city to see.
if you want to go to bukit tinggi you have to find a hotel that have a good location because at there is cold and too crowded but if you want to know a history or culture this place is good for your destination
Ngarai Sianok, Kelok 44, Maninjau Lake, Harau Valley, Singkarak Lake, Batu Sangkar, Jam Gadang Local Food : Bika, Sate Mak Syukur, Itiak Lado Mudo etc See : water mill grind (rice flour) around Pandai Sikek
You can walk to the left to reach Fort De Kock and zoo. Then continue to Pasar Atas and the Big Ben. After that, you can walk to The Hills hotel, climbing down some stairs to reach Taman Panorama.
All without any transportation vehicle. Like I said, Bukittinggi is a pretty small city. Keep in mind to use sunblock if you're planning to wander in the afternoon.
You need to allow at least 2 hours to reach the airport in Padang for flight to next destination. The Prayers to Allah are broadcast beginning 4am every day so Hotel location is important.
Easy to organise sightseeing through Hotel or with Travel Agents in town. Very Conservative so dress code is very important. Some beautiful Architecture in the surrounding area and weaving houses and timber carving, although all is aligned to religious symbolism. The Hills Hotel is the best place in town to stay.
Bukit tinggi is a little city and it have a cold place because the hotel is above the mountain. so we can eat sate and rendang at there because that city is famous with that food
Very peace and calm city. I feel very safe in this city, The local people are very polite. The city have it all from its shopping attractions and fantastic scenery.

It's a place where you can have family fun and shopping of course! Sight seeing around Padang and Bukittinggi is a must activity while you stay here.
The food s absolutely delicious. The history and culture are something that you will definitely see while you move around the city.
Bukit Tinggi, cool and relaxing city but the city is so dirty. Rubbish and litters every where. Lack of Garbage bins and food is a bit expensive.
Very good location as conjunction with Payakumbuh, Batusangkar, Padang Panjang area. You could travel to those area with staying in Bukittinggi.
Shopping area especially at Pasar atas. The price slightly 30 to 50% more chepest from butik....butik and pasar can bargain the price.
It depend on your bargaining power. My wife buy "kain sulam" for kebaya. At malaysia the price +-RM500 but here just RM125 and also you can use Malaysian Ringgit

No such thing as free service, kept small changes in your wallet and be good at bargaining and negotiating with the seller.
People are nice, food are cheap and delicious and always ask price before purchasing.
bukittinggi was one of the most famous city in west sumatera. it served as temporary capital during the independence war.
it was the house one of the most iconic historical figures "mohammad hatta" the first vice president of Republic of Indonesia. in fact the house was turned into a museum. and also, the japanese cave in which the Romusha (Indonesian slaves) was forced to dug a labyrinth to be used as military base for japanese during the world war 2. it is also the city where the first president of Indonesia was exiled. so all in all you got history super pack in one city. good place overall. :D
A GREAT CITY. VERY NICE WEATHER AND TEMPERATURE. VERY GOOD SCENERIES AND FOODS ARE GREAT.. GOOD FAMILY TRIP.
The weather cool in the night. the city sorrounded by moutain. The is good gorge with called" Ngarai Sianok".
There is tunel which was built by dutch some years ago.
Gadang clock is their icon. Japan's cave and their view about ngarai sianok also recommended place to visit.
There is a historical place called Fort de Kock. You will find a Padang Restaurant in front of Fort de Kock' main gate "Family Restaurant". They serve "ayam pop" as their favourite menu , must try ! Because one or two pieces of this chicken will never enough. If you like lamb curry, you can find the only seller in bukit tinggi with their natural recipe , food street "Nasi Goreng Ajo" about 300meter from Gadang clock heading to Kesehatan street, they are also selling fried rice without MSG.
A good place to visit for its culture and food. For those who want to buy a good quality of sarung songket.
Good weather and food. Old city with many activities during the day. Padang is about 2 hours away by car.
Bukittinggi is a nice city with its mountainous area and scenery. It has many major nature attractions.
Jam Gadang obviously the major attraction. Ngarai Sianok is fantastic, the Grand Canyon of Sumatera. Scenery of Danau Maninjau from top of the hill (Lawang Park) is very beautiful. Lembah Harau and Danau Singkarang are the other nice nature attractions. If you love photography, you will take pictures non stop!! :-)
