More about Jambi

On the island of Sumatra’s eastern coast is the province of Jambi and its capital of the same name. The city can be both a business and tourist destination. The land is rich in natural resources, and top exports include oil, gas, palm oil, and coal. Straddling the Batanghari River, there are a number of natural parks and archeological sites to be explored. Jambi’s Sultan Thaha Airport services travelers to the region with connections to Jakarta, Batam, and Pekanbaru.

Attractions in Jambi come in the form of recreation and culture. A recreational area known as Jambi in Miniature and the Jungle Park is where you can see 6 different types of houses found in the province as well as a zoo and open stadium. Taman Mayang Mangurai also has traditional houses which display wedding accessories, traditional decoration, and equipment used by the people. Another noteworthy park would be Taman Anggrek Sri Soedewi, the Orchid Gardends of Jambi. A peek into Jambi’s past can be explored at such sites as the Al-Fatah Mosque, popularly known as the mosque with a thousand pillars. The Tombs of the Jambi Sultans is also a popular site and one that is well-kept and venerated by the local population.

Accommodation in Jambi is aplenty with many options available between the airport and the river. Backpackers and budget-conscious travelers have several 1-star to 3-star properties to choose from, and a few more high-end options are available for a more luxurious stay.
