Airport shuttle bus runs late into the night to serve the late-night flights. For Jinan Nanqiao Hotel, disembark at the 2nd stop to save on taxi charges from the drop-off point to the hotel.
One of the gems of Jinan is Red Leaves Valley (Hongye Gu) - especially in autumn. Public bus 65 trundles along for about an hour before reaching this valley scenic spot. Pay 5 Yuan for shared transport to get to the park's entrance point where you buy an admission ticket. Stunning fall colours - very pretty sight. On way back, scramble for bus to try to board first so as to get a seat - otherwise, expect to stand for a long time before you reach Jinan city centre.
Not an international city, but relatively clean. Their taxi are so clean and tidy. Surprise! And people are nice and friendly, they would guide you for a walk if you get lost.
Well developed city but rather chaos in the traffic jams conditions during peak hours. Horning and tail gating among cars and reckless driving seemed a norm.
beware to family with smaller children when road crossing. Jinan has few important places of interest like DA MING HU, TU BAO QUAN, HUANG HE, QIAN FO SHAN etc are well located here within public transportation reached. Public transport is not expensive though but had to beware of the stern attitude of the driver. Big branded goods shopping mall is also located and is still in the building for more. Things are not cheap though even their own chinese brands. However, food in restaurant is economical and varied.
Jinan is a provincial city in China. It is much less internationalized than Beijing or Shanghai. Because of that, one can see a more "real" China.
Local foods are in abundance, and differ from other parts of China. Local people still act in local ways, not rustic, but less "internationalized" than in larger cities. Much growth can be seen in tall buildings, which everyone comments on. See the old temples, climb Taishan Mountain, visit the many springs. Local people are friendly, so smile and be friendly too.
Overall it's quite a laid back town, locals are extremely warm and honest people, unlike the ones you usually see in china.
The thing I really like about jinan is the cool fresh air and cool clear water. Jinan, is probably one of the very few places where it's not packed with people. You'll get a sense of serenity, walking along the big lake, or watching kids play in the river. My top 3 fav places: damning lake, baotuquan and foshan.
most of the major attractions are around the city area. it is quite easy to explore the city by walking around or by bus.
everytime you go from one place to another place by bus, it cost you cny1.00. it is cheap if you are lazy to walk by yourself.
Look for the unusual sights. Take time to enjoy a walk or many walks around town. The lights at night were fantastic.
Every building lit up and the fountain was a wonderful sight as well. Walking along the river at night was a pleasant experience as well. Taxi's can be difficult to get, especially around rush hour. Best to either take the city bus or walk at that time. We foiund the people to be very polite and several had asked my wife to have their photos taken with her.
I must say, l am really honored to experience the friendliness of the people in JINAN except those in the hotel.
Most of them are helpful towards my request for photo taking as l was alone there. The traffic though was a little messy but still under control where cars still gives way to jay walkers. They still have great respect to the traffic police and laws in JINAN. Most important to be mentioned is the cleanliness of the city centre and also alleys where the people there have great environment sense where litters are rarely found. Food and beverages are everywhere but the price is not as economical though. Maybe about 10% cheaper to Singapore dollars.
its city of professional people, high speed train and west railway station is so beautiful. i like jinan.
