Keelung is a very local and simple city with all delicious Taiwanese foods gather at one place. If you love a simple local life, Keelung is a must visit area in Taiwan.
When it's not raining I just like to take an hour or two to just sit and watch the harbor. There's always something going on there.
Maybe eagles, maybe ships coming and going, maybe jazz on the boardwalk...it's a cool place.
Keekung owns a nice location. It's possible to enjoy beaches, mountains and rivers in this region by driving only about 30 mins.
the seafood is quite nice, too. Do not miss the night market. you should try some specific snacks here.
Keelung is a sea port city visited by the Genting Star cruise liner. It is located in the north east part of the Taiwan island.
The city is a launch site for surrounding attractions, such as the Yealiu national geo-part, the Juifen old-street, several popular waterfalls, the Fakusan Buddhist institute, the Heping island geo-part, the historical Jinguaxe gold mining town and several other attractions. You can check into a budget hotel in the city and hire a taxi cab for the full day to explore surrounding attractions. This is the fastest way for you to cover all the local attractions. If you use bus, you can only visit 2 of these attractions per day.
Small city with a well organised night market. A great base for visiting places in the northwest and northen coast of Taiwan.
The night market was great. Also took a day trip up the north West coast to Yeleu Coastal Park which was well worth the trip.
As for the nightlife, well, that was lacking. There is plently to keep you entertained however, and the food was great!
scenic hilltop views of port/ city, great food at night markets, try the tasty dumpling/bao shop with queues round the clock
Keelung is a place that is easily accessible to a lot of sightseeing location. Especially to beach and some mountain areas.
Shopping wise would be the night market which I find it average as there are other night market that has more variety but still as a first time traveller to Keelung, it was a nice place to visit and stay. I would definitely re-visit this place the next time round to cover other places.
It's a beautiful town and people there are very helpful, i would say as generally, Taiwanese are very helpful and nice.
