its an old city ,,with big history all to be discover,,I'm coming back for few month ,,as i think that the future for this city is up.
Kiev is a very lively city during all the 24 hours. It is quite inexpensive as well in all that matters - restaurant, performing arts, transport and even hotel stays.
It has a visible historical architecture and there is a good effort at preserving old building.
I was very impressed with Kyiv. It has a huge number of sights and activities, ranging from beautiful churches, museums and performing arts to more unique places such as the "Museum of the Great Patriotic War".
The city still retains much of it's Soviet legacy (architecture, metro) which is fascinating to observe.
Briefly: Kiev is a city that is under the radar for most tourists. But, it continues to improve. Areas like Poltova, along the river, are getting an update, and there are a number of interest religious areas to visit.
Hotels and restaurants are somewhat over-priced, however.
You dont feel safe at night. Be aware of corrupt and criminal police. Always have your passport on you.
If you check in you luggage in Kiev Airport, then dont have things in it you want to keep. Ground personel will steal it.
It's a beautiful city full of parks, tress and flowers! There did not seem to be much organised by way of entertainment, but who needs that when you can wander all day and evening through beautiful parks.
There are some interesting sights and museums, but unfortunately I lot is written only in Ukrainian/Russian, which made it difficult for an English speaker with no local language knowledge. there are plenty of cafes to relax and watch the world go by and the metro system is very cheap and easy to use.
I once visited this city and was caught in their worst blizzard for 100 years. Waiting in vain for my taxi, I wandered out into the street through knee deep snow and spoke to a young motorist parked in front of the hotel.
The only way to Borispil airport was by rail, he said, as all the roads were blocked. He then drove my fiancée and I through the worst weather I have ever seen to the main railway station, giving us directions about which train to catch. To me, a great city can never just be terrific buildings or activities or scenery. It is the people who matter and I have always found Kiev to be a friendly city with many helpful people. Sadly this does not always extend to all of the city's hotels.
Great place to visit as so much to do and see. Don't try to ride a motor bike unless you have good insurance.
Taxis are very cheap but negotiate price first. If you want to party this is the place
LOVED THE PEOPLE VERY HELPFUL. FROM THE HOTEL I WALKED TO ALL THE PLACES OF INTEREST ,AS HOTEL IS PERFECT TO DO THIS.
PLACES TO SEE HOUSE OF CHIMERAS, ST.MICHAEL'S GOLDEN-DOMED MONASTERY. ST.SOFIAS .SO MANY SITES TO SEE .
A great capital city of a wonderful country - I fell in love with Kiev on my first visit two years ago, and I will keep on returning!
Kiev is a pretty city with some of the most beautiful women on the planet. Great place to shop as well.
According to the local tourist guide, apparently, spring is the best time of the year to visit Kiev.
Avoid staying at the Royal Hotel de Paris. Shopping is patchy. Underground shops ok, but peel off price labels and you'll find Euro tickets are a fraction of the markup.
Good old Marks and Spencer's is disappointing. Zara is a rip-off, but underground, I found one great shop selling terrific shirts at bargain prices. The buildings along the main street are truly beautiful. Make sure you visit Yalta. It's a great city. But fly to Simferopol. The 16 hour train trip is an experience from hell. and a lot hotter, too.
