My husband and I stayed on koh mak for 8 days in different resorts on the island, it is a very laid back island, it forces you to relax, perfect, it is not commercial which again is perfect, the locals on the island are very friendly and helpful, the beaches are all quite different, good beaches, you can find beaches with just a few people on , nice and secluded.
the food varies so it's worth going to different family restaurants to eat all very reasonable,it's very easy to get around the island taxis are cheap, or you can hire bikes, or motorcycles very cheaply. A little slice of paradise.
It's a tiny, sleepy island. Rent a scooter and ride around to enjoy the village life. The best place for dinner is at Koh Mak Seafood is the best place for fresh seafood, caught by local fishermen.
And the also have a cooking school.
Simple small quiet traditional Thai island life at it's very unspoiled best. Very few tourists (especially in the wet season (July-October) so lots of peace & quiet and huge empty beaches.
And big discounts for off-season accommodation too! I'm relcutant to publish this information, in case the place gets spoiled by next year!
The island is small, with plenty of palm trees. It's quiet and extremely safe. There is some nightlife - monkey bar closes with the "last man standing", has a life music every saturday.
Dj there (Andy) plays mostly chilly deep and tech-house, but goes funky and 70-ish, depending on the clientage. Overall, this island is mostly for families or for people who want to relax. A little piece of paradise
It's one of the islands that haven't been develop into a tourist island yet. People are very down to earth here, if you're looking for nightlife or shopping, you will not like Koh Mak.
It's a very good place for couples, family or a group of friends, the island is small and you can rent a bike to go around the island. There are not many shops on the island, so I suggest if you need anything, you should buy it before you get on the boat to Koh Mak, for example, sunscreen. There are only a few restaurant on the island, most of the resort has their own restaurant and if you really want a good eat out with your travel companions, go to Koh Mak Seafood Restaurant near the pier.
We were also on Koh Kood and Koh Chang so we can compare and Koh Mak is the best island with the beautiful small islands close like Koh Kham with the best beach we ever saw.
Island is clean with no garbage Almost without tourist, polite locals...
In the rainy season Koh Mak is a very quiet town with not much activity but very restful. I would recommend it to all romantic couples as a little paradise getaway.
But not so much too young singles where there is little to do. The view alone is worth the trip. A speed boat ride from the mainland to the islands is quite enjoyable as long as the seas aren't too rough. The hotel location in which you're staying picks you up and takes you to where you need to go which makes things easy. You are on a island so it is a bit more expensive. But once again the view is worth it but I have seen more beautiful beaches.
Hiking is excellent since the island is not too big. There are many small restaurants and shops along the roads, where you can enjoy something to eat and drink.
This island is truly beautiful. I couldn't think of a better place to go for a romantic getaway. Some amazing snorkeling/scuba diving around the area as well.
Peacful place,if u like to having fun night time there is no activities in nightlife here. Its a place for relaxation and some outdoor activities in day time.
It is not like other touristic islands in Thailand, it still has maintained its natural outlook and the local people are very simple in their lifestyle.
Very nice and quite island which is also convenience, there are many super market around the island, it really good if you can ride a motor bike.
Koh Mak is beautiful. Lovely beaches great snokeling and very quiet. THe island is flat so great for renting a moped and traveling round.
Sone lovely restuarants with beautiful views.
Koh Mak is a very quiet island, with some very nice beaches, not really much to do but relax and eat and drink in the local restaurants
Sand flies ruin the beaches. Nothing to do but use the pool. Food: limited choice and poor quality. Expensive overall.
It's layed back, hassle free. If you are unable to organize yourself and plan what you want to do....stick to SAMUI.
PHANGAN and TAO. No mind numbing PARTY PARTY SCENE...thank god! Good food, swimming, diving and canoes you can take anywhere...ie use your common sense,no nanny state attitude here...how refreshing. Charming island....long may it continue to be so.
A place for quiet and relaxation. Hire a motor and drive around the island. Some shopping near the boat jetty.
Deer Island looks pretty fantastic, but mostly the goal should be swimming and lounging as much as possible.
If you are looking for somewhere peaceful & romantic, koh mak is definitely one of your best choices.
