Traveler impressions of Mysore

More about Mysore

The city of Mysore is an excellent destination for experiencing a piece of India as it is one of the country’s most well-planned cities as well as the second cleanest. Being considered the cultural capital of the Karnataka state and home to a hospitable population, this destination is a traveler’s delight. The city does have its own small airport, and the nearest international airport is Bangalore, and trains stopping at Mysore Junction ensure convenient access to the city.

According to Mysore’s mythical history, this was where the goddess Chamundi defeated the demon Mahishasura. A beautiful temple to the goddess and a statue of the demon can both be found on Chamundi Hill. A climb up the hill offers a chance to explore this history as well as get a good view of the city. Mysore Palace is a great spot to hit for a glimpse into the royal history, and visiting during a national holiday or on a Sunday will allow you to see the palace illuminated in nearly 100,000 bulbs. The city boasts roughly 180 parks, providing an abundance of green space options. Happy Man Park is one of the most popular and is very family friendly. Many locals enjoy visiting the lakes that dot the landscape, including Kukarahalli Kere and the romantic Karanji Kere which is encompassed by Mysore Zoo. The zoo, one of the oldest in the world, is definitely one of the city’s most popular attractions for its spectacular grounds and array of wildlife. Tasting Mysore Pak, shopping for silk sarees, or taking a walking tour of Mysore all add to the adventures that can be had when visiting here.
