It's a pretty old world English style place in the tea country, the main attraction here is the circuit walk at Horton Plains National Park, taking in worlds end, little worlds end and a waterfall and nature in general, the worst part is you are encouraged to take a jeep costing 50US to get to the park entrance but a car can easily get there so this to me is an expense you don't need, if you take the train to Ella from Nuwara Eliya it goes through the park and you'll see amazing views any way, depends if you feel like a hike, and you may see a bit of wild life deer etc.
If you take the train especially the public train make sure you book first class or at least get a reserved seat which is at the front of the train or you'll end up standing up for the whole 3 hours being squashed in the crowd - hard to see anything.
Clothing to keep you warm is a must, the town has some good places to eat. You can visit the golf course, botanical gardens, Gregory Lake, Ambewella Farm, Strawberry farms and many more picturesque places.
It's a beautiful city which is cool. If you like rain or cool climate, you'd love here. Basically you can cover the sight seeing in 2 - 3 days as there's not many places to see and most are quite near.
A must go place is the Pedro Tea Estate and also the Strawberry Garden. Beware about the tuk tuk drivers! There's no meter and if you take long hire, they will just eat all your money. Better negotiate before you get on and pay for the first stop and leave that tuk tuk and get another one to your next destination / sight.
I did not like this city at all, but it may be affected with bad accomodation och rainy weather. The tea gardens are nice to visit and there are some spectacular scenery around.
Don't bother visiting. The place has nothing going for it, no attractions in town, no decent food, not even the "English village atmosphere" which they proclaim the town holds.
It's mostly full of fake branded clothing and people trying to convince you to visit a Tea Factory, which are boring at the best of times. Stay somewhere else if you're in the area, it's not the only place you can visit Worlds End and Horton Plains from!
Enjoy the drive up the mountain, the lovely weather, the friendly people, the trek to World's end, the views from the mountains and the clean and beautiful place.
Comes closest to Paradise
Good to visit for a breath of cool air. Horton Plains is a nice place to walk with great views, and probably the only park where visitors are allowed to walk.
This is one of the most valuable places in Sri Lanka and if someone is not visiting this place in his/her tour to Nuwara Eliya is like uncompleted tour.
There are plenty of very rear & un common flowers, plants, trees in this garden.
It's a beautiful city like old towns of Swizterland or Austria..quiet and nature sights..relaxing air and the historical place for tea n wildlife.
.i love the blue mountain...the only issue is the road condition is not very good..you better hire a driver..not driving alone..quite dangerous..
Most of the hotels are poorly presented. Not very clean, Surrounding is smelly and polluted with chemical spray to tea and vegetable plantations.
There are no decent toilets. Very dirty eating houses offer same quality foods.
Very Beautiful City. City architecture was a plus point. This city was an olden typical English mini-city with the beautiful parks and greens.
Excellent place for relaxation. Gregory Lake was refreshing sight.
going to Macwoods tea company to see around tea factory & buy Srilanka local tea, nice place to going around, nice view of tea plant scenery.
We really just stopped and had lunch and drove through. looked like a decent place to stay for a night or just a few hours of the day.
Not really sure though. Horton Plains is suppose to be a peak of interest close to there and there are many tea factories and plantations on the drive that could be stopped at for a visit.
Very mixed bag the town is not that special the lake is nice and the views are lovely the grand hotel is by far the best thing there.
if you get a chance go for afternoon tea and the restaurant is wonderful too.
It's a really a great place for relaxing! You can get yourself a cup of hot Ceylon Tea and just chill for all the moments you want.
It's also an awesome shopping place for tea lovers because you can get various kinds of products there and get to visit a lot of tea factories!
It was a great stay in Nuwara Eliya. We enjoyed a great morning walk around the lake and an excellent trekking in Horton Plains.
Nice clean city with lakes and Beautiful natures. Tea gardens and water falls are very nice. The city looks like little England.
It is a small & very nice hill station in Srilanka. The weather is in contrast to the hot weather in other parts of the country.
It is almost the centre of Sri Lanka. It has many attractions if you are comming from Kandy, which is the most likely scenario.
There are other tourists attractions close to the city. But there is nothing in the city..one can cover it walking. The city can be used as a stop-over between travelling from Kandy to other tourist spots South of the country.
It is a good place to stay, if you want to go to many nice places near here - like Horton Plains - or to visit tea factories.
Any traveler who comes to Sri Lanka should go and visit NUWARA ELIYA. Most Awesome/Beautiful & Fabulous city in the world.
beautiful highlands, many tea plantations along the way, route up may be uncomfortable because it is winding and steep.
It had a few classic old buildings. Though that was offset by the hovels of the locals. It could be missed happily.
A nice place to enjoy cool weather (we live in Singapore!). Friendly people. 2 nights are ok to discover the area.
Nuwara Eliya is best to see the tea plants and estates. Best place to stay would be at the Heritance tea factory.
Cold climate. We stayed here for the cold climate. Also very beautiful nature specially the lake is very nice.
nuwara Elia is the must-place when you come to Sri-Lanka, it will make you feel relax and charge your energy.
mountans, water falls, tea estates, lakes, cool and calm weather. nice people. A must see city in sri lanka.
Nuwara Eliya is known as the little England in Sri Lanka..Cool Climate and much similar to England weather.
.and lot of Historical Hotels are there...in the city..and gardens, and lake activities, and so many other activities are there around the city...ideal for a relaxation..
It's called Little England, yes it has paddle boats, pony rides, kids rides, all around Gregory Lake.
A pretty area, but not a lot to really do. Best going outside the city for sightseeing, tea plantations, the botanical gardens are beautiful, looking at waterfalls, going on a train ride, and just enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
