Very small town, with all the typical attractions of a small town, where there's no hustle and bustle, just chill and simple living, there's a fantastic row of shops and food places there, and a small fish market, which is just perfect for my family of four for a short two days visit
Otaru is a very clean city, you can smell the scent of the ocean right outside the hotel lobby. There is a tourist shop street nearby the port, and I strongly recommend people to go there, it has all kinds of shops in there, from leather shop to candy shop.
i spent the whole afternoon there and cant get enough of it, had to get back to the hotel for dinner since it gets dark pretty early and is completely dark at about 10 to 5 pm. On the otherside of the canal there are some bars with local made beers., which i pretty much enjoyed it.
Quaint little town with lots of western influence in the lifestyle like ART , music and food. Lots of westernised old buildings , old Otaru beer brewery started by the Germans , and Canal godowns with dutch influence in the architecture .
Lots of shops selling glass and crystal wear , wines and westernised food. There is a music box museum with interesting European history in the place.
pls.don't forget to stop by at LeTao try cheese cake and cookies. Bus to Merchan stop in front of LeTao shop For sushi, try "Sushi Maruyama" and "Otaru Masa Shuhi" For it's own town it's very nice but nothing much too do in the city.
It's a pretty small town, a few stations from Sapporo train station. The city has great historical value, yet those old buildings have been renovated to tourist attractions such as restaurants and shops.
Its origami and glass making are famous so you would expect many related shops at the old fashion main street. Canal visit and enjoying the seafood are a must. Certain waiters at restaurants do not speak English.
Otaru is a lovely little town with lots of crystals art work and wine / beer on sales. There was a beer brewery runned by a German man with western food in the restaurant , next to the canal.
Some renovation work going on at one end of the canal , so there was a lot of baricades along the canal making it rather difficult to walk in winter with snow and ice. Very slippery , so remember to wear shoes spike when walking along the canal ! The town clock was interesting , it chimed every 15mins with steam coming out !
Otaru is a small little town near a canal , with lots of western influence in their food which includes the special Otaru beer with German influence , glass crystal and music box /art scenes.
A nice romantic place to walk around and enjoy with your loved ones. A small place where you can cover in one or two days of slow leisurely walk around the town. Lots of western culture and influence in their way of life here.
Many tourists, so you no need worry to get lost. But, suggest you to bring enough money and visa, because there are many attractive things and foods you will order and bring back to home.
Otaru is a leisure place. Good for shopping and many different kinds delicious food can be found there, including fresh seafood, fruit, Japanese food and western food.
Otaru canal is a place for snapping especially at nite. Otaru has the most to see for someone who loves mini creations, the road where the Museums is located.
Popular for its Plum wine if you are a wine lover. Limited to Hokkaido only.
I like this small town. I will come again but will not stay at night. I will stay at Sapporo. Just take train to here in the morning and return at night.
A romantic town. It is a little quiet at night if not during the winter festival. The seafood is tasty and widely available with affordable price.
Otaru is beautiful in Winter but not so in Spring. It may not be necessary to stay a nigh in Otaru. One can just make a day trip there from Sapporo.
There is only one street to wonder around. The street has all the glass houses and music box shops. However, I don't find the glasses or music boxes worth buying. LeTao cake shop is a must to visit. It has very nice cheese cake and biscuits.
This is a romantic city especially around dusk working along the canal. The gas lamps along the canal really add a very romantic atmosphere.
Otaru is a very clean place, air is cool and fresh. Shops closed early due to cool weather even if it is summer when we visited Otaru.
A good place for short trip. You can walk to the main attractions from the canal. There are many eateries and shops within this area.
It is good place to visit if you want to avoid the busy Sapporo town.

The river was so beautiful, especially in the evening. There are many interesting stores near by. It's good for a walk.
We had got a festival in Otaru. The fireworks and food stands were so amazing! I had a wonderful night here!
A lovely little town with the famous canal and the steam clock identical to the ones in Gastown, Vancouver, Canada.
This is a popular tourist destination with plenty of gift shops. You can also find many great sushi restaurants in town. If you love shopping and eating, this is place not to miss

Beautiful old city, with great food, especially the seafood. Must eat the sushi, sashimi, and kaisen-don.
