Beautiful outer island of Penghu such as Jibei, Qimei, Qiwan, etc Jibei Island - Water activities Qimei - The natural wonder and spectacular seaside and coastal formations Qiwan - Fish squirt and the seafood from the farm
The hotel where I stayed was just close to the harboard, and near the South Sea Service Center, if you go to Penghu, you must visit the islands (one of the most beautiful paradise beaches in the world).
Definitely prefer other parts of Magong to the city for quaintness. However the bus service is quite infrequent (to Bayhouse hostel so may need to call for cab from city back or hostel to city).
Managed to catch the fireworks festival and definitely a must see! 2 nights in Magong and 2 nights in Qimei island, which I definitely prefer the latter for nature's beauty, laid-back life and quietness. Qimei might not have the Magong city's facilities, but I really loved spending my day exploring the island, going for snorkelling (beautiful corals!) and watching sunset.
Residents are really friendly and helpful. Beaches are beautiful with fine sands and clear water. However, driving licnece is a must to travel to different sightseeing points.
Tourists must join local tour for visiting or rent a taxi as there are not many cabs on the road in the little remote island. Tourists must make an cab appointment in advance at the hotel.
Great island. 3-5 nights you can see most of what Penghu has to offer but go for longer for more relaxation and to see more of the islands and surrounding islets.
Take a motorbike and cruise to other parts of the island and find many little get away spots few travel and see.
Penghu is not only a vacation island, but also a lot of history buildings to see. The sea water is just so clear and the seafood is just so good and cheap to eat.
there are few islands worth visiting in Penghu that you only can get to by boat. Short stay may not allow you to visit enough of worth-going places.
Beaches are beautiful and quite numerous, one can either choose to visit crowded or alienated ones, of same great white sand and ocean blue water quality. Quite nice place for snorkeling, diving and other water sports.
The many islands of Penghu offers several awesome views. Life is simple and slow (agreed with many whom referenced these islands as the old taiwan).
Attractions wise definitely needs improvement. Public transportation weren't frequent enough, but maps of the city and attraction were inconsistent. Islands around looks good too, but the attractions were mostly made up/ invented - I could sense/ feel it at most of the attraction. Simple and slow enough city - it has its beauty and attractiveness, but sadly not given enough emphasis on where its beauty lies.
The island itself is pretty bare without many trees at all. Most of the things to do on the island are different water activities and the beach.
Try and find a good tour guide and they will take you around to some of the smaller surrounding islands where you can see some really not views and go snorkeling. Great place to vacation as long as you get yourself a good tour guide.
Easily explored if you (foreigners) manage to rent local transport provided that you do prepare international driving license before arrival.
well nothing much to do at this island. during summer this island will be full of people, main attraction will be surfing or beach activities
It´s definitely not something like a "Tropical Island-Paradise", but unfolds its very unique charm when discovered with an open mind.
The beaches have for sure more potent ion for development, for example: no sun-shelter at most places, also don´t expect a Beach-Cafe or Restaurant like everywhere in southern Europe..... Its worth to get an own Car or Scooter to explore the geographically unique spots, as well as old villages (Erkan) which are nicely preserved and worth to visit. Don´t forget to cover all your skin (best would be dressed with Burka!), as the sun is burning hot - and pretty windy at times.
Go fish squids at night in local boats, Eat fresh oysters in the morning at a kelong-like location in the middle of the sea.
Snorkeling is also good there. It would be more fun and convenient if you have international drivers' license for cars or bikes, as there are a lot of areas to explore in penghu. Its quite big!
It's a much bigger place than I realized, and full of curiosities to stop at along the road, so driving takes a while.
Also the windy season begins in October, which slowed down our driving and biking pace and was less comfortable. I hear the summer is incredibly hot, but probably more beautiful and less windy. So three days wasn't quite enough to do all the things we wanted to do, and actually it wasn't very relaxing because we were on boats and biking and scootering and climbing and always doing active things and fighting the wind. I'd stay longer next time and take my time, doing something outdoorsy and sporty every day but also taking more time to enjoy leisurely seafood meals and hang out.
Penghu is suitable for people doing water activities and hence the best period is to visit during summer time i.
e. April to September every year. It is also a place to find sea food and relax.
