One of the most bust cities in South Africa. The City is alive and always changing. The City is a cultural melting pot of countries rubbing shoulders.
The City has its dark scary side same as any big city in the world but there is no need to fear it as the general public are helpful forgiving and friendly.
This is the Busy business and also the play venue for the South African wheelers and dealers. Always a buck to be made and people are not afraid to go big.
As such the malls are bigger than the remote South african Towns the Gold reef city fun rides are bigger and more moddern than most. There are numerous malls and various cultures and budgets are considered from Chinese to Morocan to typical South Afican Fair. The Casinos are worth the visit too. In general it is an exciting ever changing City which should have more than just a little something for everybody.
Better than expected safety and access wise a city that has good historical sights and attractions worth seeing for a day or two
Pretoria is a place to behold. Just to mention few, places like Church Street, Union building, Zoo and Malls around Gezina are of great interest too!
Visit the Voortrekker Monument, the Zoo, the Union Buildings. Several really nice restaurants and pumping nightlife, especially in Hatfield where the University is.
We walked around about 6 hrs, covered most of the (for us) interesting buildings / places . A very good place to eat is the Cafe 41 ( Shopping Center Eastwood Str near Church Str.
) No taxis in the city, only on order. Very nice: Melrose House and Kruger House / Museum, also Union Bldg. from outside + Park, Church Square. At least worth to visit Vortrekker Monument. On the way back to Jobg-Airport we made a visit to the Lions Park 40 kms West. Great experience there, also for children! The best time for a visit in the region seems to be when the blossoms are out on the Jacarandas. (From Oct.....)
Avoid the Centre of Pretoria it is not a safe place saw a stabbing and police at the Union Buildings were particularly unfriendly or helpful.
Pretoria a reasonably big City with many destination attrative and suitable travellers of differebt ages and origins.
A beautiful city with a rich history. Do take time to visit the Voortrekker Museum. Languages spoken is Afrikaans and English.
