"I had not stayed in Downtown Rio before so this was a first. This hotel is perfect if you are not a beach bum and prefer to visit historical places of interest and pubs and restaurants. It is right in the centre of Rio and you tend to meet some of the more normal Cariocas, i.e those who dont party 24/7. Thiongs were a good bit cheaper here than in Zona Sul so that was a bonus I wasnt expecting."

"Hotel Granada was a good budget option for Carnival week in Rio. The facilities outside of the actual room are non existent (no bar, gym, business centre etc) but the rooms were clean and well equipped, the staff spoke good English and were helpful, the breakfast was nice. The location is great for Lapa and Santa Teresa although the areas around the closest metro stations- Carioca and Cinelandia are dangerous at night and to be avoided. The hotel is undergoing renovation ahead of the World Cup and the work could be heard on the 9th floor (taking place on the 14th), and started at 7am- the staff and listings do not disclose this so try and book a room around the 6th floor. "The reception guy is unapologetic, we booked and paid for Bohemian tour a night before the tour but he sent us to Buzios beach. The whole day of that tour is ruined for we spent much of traveling 180km from and to Rio. Upon reaching the hotel, the reception guy just say sorry without sincerity."
