More about Sai Yok (Kanchanaburi)

Sai Yok is a small district in Kanchanaburi, and is perhaps most famous for being the site of Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and the local Tiger Temple. The district is of course an important gateway especially for those interested in learning about the important role this region has played in Thailand’s history. If traveling to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok and other major cities, one is spoiled for choices of how to get there. The region is served by reliable and frequent bus, minibus, and even rail transportation and there’s ample information on how to get to which district.

The Prasat Muang Sing Historical Park is a massive compound complete with an ancient Khmer temple and an exhibition hall that tells the history of the Cambodians in this region as well as the enduring culture of Thailand. Although there are several hotels located near the historical park, it’s also easy to reach either by taxi or motorcycle, the popular method of travel in most cities in Southeast Asia.

As a whole, Kanchanaburi is home to a great deal of historical and cultural landmarks, as well as some of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the country. Of course, Sai Yok is within just a short taxi ride from most of these, but the small district also has its own attractions that are well worth exploring.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Sai Yok, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
