the pollution in shenyang is high so take note of pollution if this is important to you. shenyang is a city so going any where by metro is easy.
food in shenyang is ok for a chinese like me.
it is well organized and have all the basic needs for a city. staying hotel near metro will allow visit to many of the place very convenient.
two walking streets are good for visit - (zhong street and tai yuan street)
It's not a good place for shopping or leisure walks during winter. The traffic is bad 24/7 and crossing the road can be a matter of life and death.
However, there are many business friendly facilities which is good for business conferences. The history of Manchurian dynasty begin in this city so it's a good trip for those who are interested.
Hot and humid in summer and need to bring the right clothes. People are friendly and helpful when approached.

My second visit to shenyang. This trip was a stopover during the new year holiday before my visit to Harbin.
It is a place worth visiting if you are interested in Chinese history, especially history and culture of Qing Dynaste
A beautiful place to visit for a few attractions but you will need a translator to give instructions to the taxi drivers as to where to go.
The Imperial palace is highly recommended and so is the Bei Ling Park. The Liaoning Provincial Museum is free. No tour packages available at my hotel. Please make sure that the hotel you choose has tour packages before you decide on a hotel.
Great sight seeing with ancient palaces, nice parks and modern architecture, but the air pollution was beyond description.

A gray, unoriginal Chinese city with some really rude people. However, the palace and the tombs are nice spots to see.

A city that is developing steadily with well designed buildings and environments. Shows the level of concern by locals.
Not too many Westerners here, but you'll find many of them in the expat bars in Heping area. Shenyang is a nice place to spend a few days.
Visit Marshal Zhang's house, and the Mukdan Palace for major monuments of Qing and post-Qing history
Historically exciting city, with many sites to see. Especially in modern Chinese history. Gugong, Zhangshi Shuifu, FuLiang and Old town were very nice to see.
