This is a charming little town, like SO MANY in Norway. The Stave Churches around the region are worth a visit, but the best reason to stay here is to use it as a launching point for a day trip to the national park and the glaciers, about 2 hours drive to the north.
I recommend staying at least two nights, so that when you return from the park, it is not a long drive to a next place. The glaciers were beyond fantastic. Will rank among the most beautiful and amazing thing we have ever seen, more impressive than what remains in Jasper National Park, Canadian Rockeies. But go soon! They are shrinking.
