The city is not well developed economically, and has retained a certain degree of quaintness. The city is safe, but beyond the road name plates and official tourist sites, there are very few signs in English or any other foreign language.
It would be good to choose a night that coincides with one where the Garden Night Market is in operation (Thursday, Saturday & Sunday), a place to taste all the local fare with just gesticulating with one's hands.
A city full with history between Taiwan and other country. Lots of ancient building which is in good conditions and lots of delicious local foods along the street, spend 2 nights over here maybe you will discover more on this city.
We only spent a night here and feel like the time is too short, might be come back again purely for the food adventure.
Tainan is a very friendly city, clean, quite and climte suitable for living. This city was the most rich area in Taiwan during the Chin dinasty and have lots culture spots for viewing.
Meanwhile, the food here is very delicious and cheap where you can easy to get, of course, night market is most special easy to have all foods and you can not miss. It is worth to have a trip with your family.
Just a great city to pay a visit, and enjoy the traditional Taiwanese Cuisine and the culture this city provides, make sure you rent a car and see for yourself !!!!
I stayed 3 days & 2 nights. I think its just right. There are many salons that look really classy, some have their price stated in a big banner look out for those.
I had a hair cut, wash (with massage that was really good) and a hair strengthening serum for my hair/scalp and paid SGD$12, can't find such a deal in Singapore, not even on Groupon!?
The Tainan city has a history to follow, as it is the first capital of Taiwan. The natural sites such as the salt mountian and marsh land is interesting for visit.
The food is good and people friednly.
Mark out the places you want to go to on a map, then plan your journey route. Most of the places would be within walking distance, or if not, try to get a bicycle.
There is a lot to see, lots to experience, lots to eat. And the people are generally friendly and wonderful.
Taipei is a cosmopolitan city with an efficient transportation network, Taichung is a friendly city, but TAINAN is truly the historical gem of the entire island.
Nestled throughout Tainan are more than 300 temples of varying sizes, many dating back to the 1600's. Locals use these temples to consult the deities for advice on a myriad of human problems, similar to going to a therapist, except one can pop into a temple anytime to inquire about anything! Taiwanese from all parts of the island visit Tainan for delicious specialties and for the warmer winter weather, but mostly because the people of Tainan are gracious, authentic and proud of their heritage. Most of the oldest families in Taiwan are from Tainan, with many of them dating back to the 1700's. The history of Tainan is contemporaneous with Boston Massachusetts, and like Boston is full of historical sites. Public parks abound with equipment not only for children but for adult exercise as well.
One day isn't enough to discover Tainan... at least 2 days. Nonetheless, a trip to Tainan to experience the quaint old feel and culture is worth a mention!
Laid back place with no MRT. Just cab or public buses to move around. Tainan is well known for their local delicacies eg Coffin bread, Dan zai noodles etc.
either spend a night at most or a day trip from Taichung will do. Places to visit: Chikan Tower/AnPing fort & Tree house, night market
Must visit the Night Flower market as it has the best food in the business. Be careful to check which days it is on as not open every day.
It's a historical city of Taiwan. There are lots of traditional buildings to visit and department stores/ shopping areas to go in daytime.
At night, you can go to Hai-an street for a drink and chat with your friends or locals. I had a wonderful trip during new year holidays in this city.
Tainan has many historical locations with culture. It is the place where the commercial and business started in long time ago in Taiwan.
It is worth to visit the city to know the Taiwan history.
Tainan is really a symbolic place of Taiwan better than Taipei. People are so nice in there, and it shows the "Real" side of Taiwan.
Taipei is adopt too much from Western countries and it loss its true color....if you want to see the real Taiwanese culture or try the real Taiwanese food, you should go to Tainan - the southern part of Taiwan.
The old capital in Taiwan, here have many attractions to look around. It's suitable for couple, family, friends, and backpackers.
Just to say that if your stay is near a temple...expect heaps of firecrackers and fireworks and they don't do it just at night.
...like 8AM!!! Also you have a nearby Taiwanese Top Gun Academy and if you like the sound of fighter jets that's great or bring some ear plugs! You have been warned...not joking! Otherwise the town is great for foods and have some beautiful back streets...simply stunning history and the people are so friendly and helpful!
Better bring your own sunblock and keep on wrapping yourself with sunblock, the sunshine at Tainan is as hot as the inhabitant.
A city with different attractions where you can enjoy your life day and night. Do enjoy your time having various local snacks.
The old streets of Yanping street (or also known as Anping street) and the food available there are worth visiting the area.
Ancient Capital Tainan, the ancient capital of Taiwan. Tainan is the birthplace of Taiwan and the oldest city on the island
Very religious and spiritual city, I spent half a day exploring its temples and walking around the old city and streets.
Had a really nice time there
Some good sites, but if you're tight on travel time, and more of a nature lover, you may strike this city off your list.
Follow the Lonely Planet walking tour for all the major sites in the downtown area, it will probably take a entire day.
The next day, take the 88 or 99 bus to An Ping Fort and the old town area. Local food is quite good, and don't miss the night markets.
A very friendly city with many interesting and cool thing to do. Food are delicious. However, it is VERY hot in summer.
It's a bit different from Taipei. Tainan is smaller but more in culture and cheaper gourmets here and there.
Personally I like going swimming pool to heal my body in Sauna, spa with only TW 200 dollars and then going for a local massage, then hoover the local gourmets which is amazingly tasty.
Drive, Drive and Drive OR walk, keep walking... I think the traffic system is really really inconvenient !
I feel Tainan is a charming small city very different from Taipei and has lots of history and nature parks.
Everybody should take a trip to Tainan to explore the attractions and the excellent food.
It's the oldest city in taiwan. A lot of temple & historical sights to go if u r interested in that area.
The nite market is a must to go. Great food at cheap prices for the good quality of food. Shopping is fun to do at the nite market too. With games stall by the other side of the market for the young ones.
