More about Takayama

Takayama is located in Japan’s Chubu region, near the Alps in the prefecture of Gifu. The city houses some of the most perfectly preserved architecture of the Edo era, making it a great place to visit for those who are interested in exploring this part of Japan’s illustrious history and culture.

Getting into Takayama is easily done via the country’s very efficient train system, made even easier by the fact that this city is the central point of all travel activities in the Hido region. There are several hotels near Takayama Station, making it easy to get to one’s accommodation quickly after the train journey.

Once in Takyama, getting around the city is easily done either by foot or bicycle. The location of the city near the mountains and amazing environmental conditions which make up hot springs makes it a favorite destination among those looking for the traditional Japanese hot spring spa experience known as Onsen. Hirayu Hot Springs is one such destination, and there are many hotels in the area to make it easy to access this location.

This city also has a great deal of history, with some buildings and houses having been maintained in their original design for centuries. The Takayama Jinya was once a government building, but has been functioning as a living architectural museum for many years. The building has been operational since the time of the shogun, and those traveling to this region with friends or family will find that an afternoon spent exploring this historical and interesting building is certainly worth the time and energy.
