As a town very proximate to the airport, it should be a good place for people to stay overnite juz for the sake of catching early flight or sleeping after arriving Taipei at midnight (if you wanna stay relaxed).
Haven't visited Taoyuan town centre though, heard that there's a night market which should be pretty nice.
Taoyuan is much like western Taipei in that it is an area dominated by manufacturing. However, it is a busy place with good transport and good places to go shopping and fast food outlets.
Hutou Park is worth a visit with the Shancheng Temple overlooking part of the city.
The department stores are located at the central of city and Novotel provides a free shuttle. Besides, only airport! Honestly, it is a countryside and don't expect too much.
Taoyuen airport has many BUS. BUS no.705 is to go "HSR Taoyuen station"30T$. BUS no.5059 is to go central Taoyuen city, final stop is front of Taoyuen normal Rail station.
53T$. If you misunderstand about railway station,Bus no.206 is Taoyuen normal station to HSR Taoyuen station,Free charge until Dec31/2013. Anyhow,Taoyuen is cheeper than Taipei about Accomodition,Eating place, shopping(there are 3 big department),transfer. If you think "Taipei is expensive",I recommend with hotels around Taoyuen normal rail station.
There is nothing much about Taoyuan but if you want to have local dishes, there are a lot of old food stall more than 30 year history in that area.
The only problem is you need guidance from the hotel staff and a map in order for you look for these stores. Taiwan people are very friendly but mandarin speaking are necessary.
I am not sure I can comment much here as I only stay overnight here. I would like to visit the city again to write appropriate comments/feedback.
Old city with very crowded streets filled with businesses and shopping. Not a sight-seeing area, more for shopping, eating, and visiting temples.
Zhongli city itself has many place to shop and nice lamen restaurant. You may give it a try. This city is nearest to the airport (20 minutes).
Im so satisfied with this hotel. You may have 7days trip in taiwan and visit zhongli city as the last two days. Its convenient for you to go to the airport if your flight is early in the morning (7am) its a good choice!
There's Taoyuan's biggest shopping mall, newly opened but does not have a supermarket. Other outlets of international brands are available.
Food choices are also a huge variety to choose from
Cannot comment on Taoyuan as weather and flight arrangement did not permit venture far from the hotel except to the Zhongli Night Market.
There are many shopping malls near Taoyuan station. But, they all close at 9:30-10:00. So, it seems you can't do much shopping at night.
Or you can go to cafe at night, it seems that it closed at late night (after 1:00).
The people of Taoyuan are very friendly, even if you do not speak mandarin, they will try their best to interpret you and help you out!
Great place for shoppers--there are three department stores and various kinds of shops and restaurants near the Taoyuan Train Station.
Not many people will stay in Taoyuan for traveling unless for business i think. I stayed there twice because of visiting friends only.
Taoyuan is less crowded in terms of people and traffice than taipei. the food is abundant and very varied in taste, colour, smell.
a haven for foodies. attraction like Maokong cable car (choose the crystal cabin, where the floor of the cabin is glass, worth the wait)not to be missed.
Can go to night market around the area. Also has dream mall which has indoor baseball and bowling and indoor aerobics and skating
Near airport and high speed train. Gateway city for Taiwan. Stay if late arrival, then depart for Taipei or elsewhere in the AM.
It is there for the airport pretty much only but there are things to see around there if you wish to stay a couple of days.
Some temples and things.
The some sightseeing spots has to ride taxi but bus. Near airport and highway to Taipei, you can also have high speed rail.
Cihu (慈湖) is a temporary resting place of President Chiang Kai-shek. There is a beautiful lake located near the tomb-site.
We went here just for the international airport. I noticed that the standard of living is lower than that of Taipei.
Taoyuan has many attractions such as the Republic of Chocolate factory and also many family fun-filled attractions.
If you have more time to spare and is looking for a quiet place, take a bus or charter a personal driver to Mount Lala.
You can visit the night market and find a lot of things and foods. The rest of places are farms and stones beaches.
Just a small town but not a big city like taipei and kaohsiung.. people are relaxing here, nice and food not bad.
Didn't manage to spend much time in Taoyuan. We only explored Daxi Township which is a very beautiful township.
A street with a flavor of its own, delicious snacks and friendly people!
It's an industrial area with lots of factories. Air pollution is quite serious. Not a good place for leisure.
But it's very close to the airport. If you have an early flight next morning, not a bad choose to stay there rather than airport, at least there's shopping mall and night market
There's a lot of shopping areas in the city centre yet you can enjoy the cosy atmosphere in the countryside
Must going da xi lao jie, hua gu garden, zhong li night market and walk there shop at nan huan strees.
Well do visit Taimall and Carefour. Carefour has free tea sessions by Ten Ren on the food court level.
If you like tea, make sure to patronize that store and sip some good tea for free.
