On hindsight, I think I would have preferred to visit the Grottos near Luoyang instead of the Yellow River area.
Zhengzhou is a dynamic city that is suffering from growing pains, but it shows what a can-do approach to development can do.
It will be a great city in 3 -5 years time.
The city is undergoing some major transformation and coupled with the geographical problems, it is very dusty during the day, especially in dry seasons.
hotel, this place is filled with excellent historical sites in its vicinity and this city is a good transit point to visit these historical sites such Luoyang, Kaifeng and some ancient ruins. The city itself boosts a good collection of museums which offer good way to peek into the ancient history that runs into thousands of years.
Awful air qualiity. So bad, you can taste it. And there isnt much to do. The museum is nice but not much to see outside of that.
The local markets are interesting to walk through but be careful what you eat.
Should stay near the east side of town as it's near to the airport and rail station. City centre is developing and having major jam daily.
The east side is newer and the nicer hotel is there too.
if you are not in the business trip or visiting your friends, there is no reason to go, 2 big citis (kaifeng and loyang ) near by are your choice.
There are lot of sight seeing in the city. Average for shopping. There are good restaurants in the city center.
I went to Zhengzhou as I wanted to visit Shaolin Temple but it was quite disappointing! The Shaolin Temple has become too commercialised and crowded.
The entrance fee is quite high at RMB100 but senior got to pay only half the amount. I went on a weekend and the indoor kungfu performance did not have enough seats for the audience. I expect a better outdoor performance of martial art. The indoor kungfu performance is not so impressive! In my opinion, the Yellow River Scenic Area is a better place to visit.
Large, dirty ,busy, chaotic, dry, city. Concrete apartment buildings and rusty iron grids. Little concern for environment.
Thick smog. Was not tempted to go sightseeing. There for business purposes.
Zhengzhou is a great city and we didn't have time to explore everything, but what we saw was great! Close to Shaolin Temple and Yellow River Scenic Area, very convenient.
You will have to take the long distance bus or a special bus, but still a great city! Too bad the nightlife is not very impressive, I would recommend SOHO Bar, it was being renovated so we didn't go there, but it looked like a great bar and some local people recommended that club
If you are foreigner should be practice some word in Chinese ex. toilet ,noodle ,rice ,water etc. because of in this city is less people can talking with you in English.
to my surprise, Food is really good and most restaurant provide excellence service. I'm quite impressed!
Weather is hot and dusty during summer, i would recommend you to visit during zhengzhou in spring or autumn.
