Super relaxed hotel for a family traveling with kids. ”
We spent 2 nights at the Coral Rock by Bansei as our last hotel for our tour in SriLanka., 6th hotel. It was really a truly relaxing experience and thank you so much for making the end of our trip so unforgettable. They were very accommodating but yet, left us alone. It would have been nice if we were warned on the booking site that we needed to attend and pay for the mandatory New Year’s Eve Dinner, it turned out fantastic and plenty of so much fun but, we would have liked to know beforehand so that we could have planned differently.

SO CLOSE TO THE SEA – FABULOUS VIEW!”
We had a great 2 night stay at the Bansei Hotel. Upon arrival, we were lucky to get an upgrade on the room. We had booked a Budget room but we ended up staying in a Standard, Sea View room. The service was great. Be advised - this is not a luxury hotel with buffets for breakfast. This is a budget hotel, but a very good one at that. And there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. (Be careful when crossing the busy street!) Now for the view… In contrast to some of the pictures on the travel/booking sites, there was virtually no beach directly behind the hotel. The beach to the South can still be accessed by descending a series of steps from the pool area. I’m not sure whether it’s a seasonal thing or whether it’s the sea winning the battle against the land over the years. THIS SITUATION HOWEVER, MAKES FOR A STUNNING VIEW IN THE HERE & THE NOW. When looking out from the balcony (of a sea view room), you feel like you are in a lighthouse or in a docked ship, because of the proximity to the sea. The pool is the ONE PLACE that beats the “Sea View” balcony. You get a special feeling (especially at night) when you are in the quiet, gentle pool glancing over at an unpredictable, ever-changing sea. This view is by far, the best I’ve seen out of all beach hotels visited. I would definitely come again in Dec-Jan if the prices don’t go up too much!

Best location, view and amazing staff!”
I've gone to Hikkaduwa so many times and this hotel is by far my most favorite! Got a free upgrade to sea view! the beach view is stunning from balcony to sit down and relax. loved their interiors too. the staff was amazing and very keen to keep the guests happy. It was a wonderful stay and we were gutted to leave at the end of our 2 night stay! all my future visits to Hikkaduwa would be here without any second thoughts! (:

Lovely hotel in a brilliant location”
I stayed 2 nights at coral rock by Amaya and it was quite an experience. The hotel is situated in a beitiful location. Reception staff were very helpful. Restaurant staff can improve there performance by taking the order right at first time. I would recommend write the order down more than try to remember it. Apart from that service was fast and the staff were friendly. It was quite hard to find the name of the staff members and I would suggest the staff should given a name tag. At least for front office staff. Food was good and enjoyed the stay at coral rock and I would definitely go back.

A littele gem of a hotel with a view to die for”
We booked the Coral Rock due to the very good reviews on Agoda and the excellent rate which presumably due to low season. After a 7 hour train journey from Kandy I couldn't wait to check in. The tuk tuk driver tried to take us to 'a better' hotel saying the Coral Rock was noisy due to the road noise. Well I cannot stress enough how wrong he was. After check in, we were shown to an airy seaview room at the rear of the hotel and the only sound i could hear was that of the ocean with a view to die for. I dont know if this was an upgrade, as there was hardly anyone staying in the hotel, but I was more than happy with the room, which was modern and very clean. The staff were friendly, polite, professional and very attentive, (maybe a little too much at times) and nothing was too much trouble. Again I got the feeling this may have been due to so few people staying in the hotel. And a special mention to both the pool attendant and security guard who prevented a small boy from falling in the pool when one of the guests was too busy eating his breakfast to take care of his own child and just ushered him outside towards the pool !!!! Breakfast was very good but the restaurant food is just average and a little over priced. An example: I ordered a curry and I had to order the rice as a seperate dish. I asked for fried rice but they brought me steamed rice and then tried to charge me more than the price of the curry for the rice. This was reduced after I complained. Should steamed rice not come with a curry as standard ??? The bar (which closed at 10pm) is a little small and a bit of a let down, but it is possible to sit outside with your drinks (which are a little overpriced), and it is far better. Free Wi-fi in the rooms, which is a rarity in Sri Lanka, so I was very happy with that. I enjoyed my stay so much, I extended it by another 3 nights. Would definately stay here again.

location is the best”
it's a good budget hotel right on the coral reef. we came to Hikkaduwa for snorkeling and this has one of the best locations. even some good Restaurants are near by. they don't have room service but u can sit by their pool and they have a bar there where u can get drinks to chill. only take sea viewing rooms (use the option on agora site) because some rooms are road facing and could be noisy due to vehicles plying on Galle road.

"Super beach retreat"”
i had a lovely stay - they upgraded me to a deluxe room and the staff were very friendly and helpful. the breakfast was super - the choice of the spread was immense that i could not make up my mind what to eat and what not to. the location of the hotel makes it the best if you want to have a great stay by the beach. i also took a boat trip to see the corals. the prices outside hotel for everything including food is rediculously expensive and i recommend you try from the hotel menu itself for good deals on food and beverages and excursions.

Nice boutique hotel”
the coral rock is a small hotel (about 30 rooms) and gives you a sense of privacy unlike the large resorts near by. the pool area is small but right on the beach. the ocean facing rooms have a lovely view, the staff is nice and helpful, we really enjoyed our stay.

Excellent hotel for honeymooners”
This is the best hotel in the area. We are a honeymoon couple and stayed in this hotel for one night and we enjoyed every moment. Customer service is excellent. Food is exceptional. We recommend this hotel to anyone who is willing to spend some time in relaxation by the sea. Well done Coral Rock!!!

Nice hotel a little spoiled by noisy party”
the coral rock is at the upmarket (north) end of hikkaduwa close to the coral reef. we were there during the monsoon so snorkelling not an option. the beach is ok but quite a lot of litter - the beaches at the south (backpacker) end are nicer. the hotel is comfortable and the sea side rooms are good value. suspect the road side ones are noisy and don't have the views. restaurant is pricey for sri lanka but good options available in the area. the swimming pool is modest size but great location at the back of the beach. a very noisy party (dj) on the saturday night went on until 1 am and made sleep pretty much impossible.

Lovely Beach view - Excellent location”
great location and stunning beach view if you get a room with beach view.the room finishing is great and the bathroom is very clean. i had only one issue with this hotel: in sri lanka, there is a common understanding with hotels that the hotel will be responsible for the accomodaion of the tour guide(driver) once the tourist checks in.this is common all over srilanka usually the hotel would have a big room ( with maybe 10-20 bed) only for this reason. coral rock did not provide accomodation for my driver and he had to wait for 3 hours ( that was after an 8-hour long journey from nuwara eliya ) to find himself a place to stay. this is somthing i do not appreciate about this hotel, everything else was very good.

Great place to stay”
Perfect location close to the beach & many eateries. Swimming pool is facing directly to the ocean which is perfect. They have a large room that comes with balcony. Staff is friendly and breakfast is ok. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hikkaduwa.

Cheap and Cheerful”
I had read other reviews on this site and some had an issue with not getting free stuff. I guess it's like budget airlines, they can offer competitive rates because they don't give their customers things which they don't always want and need. So, you don't get the toiletries or tea and coffee making facilities but I don't care as I never use that stuff anyway. I'm more interesting in the price and it was very competitively priced and if staying somewhere that's clean, fresh and modern (as it's recently been updated) is more important than little bottles of shampoo, this is a good option. One reviewer complained that the noise made by the sea in the sea-view rooms was disturbing and yes, surprise surprise the sea does make a noise. You will also be able to hear traffic if you get a room on the other side of the hotel but that's true of pretty much any hotel room on that side in any of the hotels alone the main Galle Road. I was only there one night, so it didn't matter. I really liked the pool, bar, decking area - very cool. Again, someone complained about no private beach but none of the hotels on the Galle Road have a private beach - not one. So all in all a good decision.

Lovely hotel with clean beautiful beach”
Rock Amaya is a lovely hotel with beautiful sandy beach. We enjoyed the comfortable beds, nice clean rooms and the great ocean view. The breakfast was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Make sure to get a room on the ocean side. The rooms on the front side facing the street could be a bit noisy. We will definitely stay at Rock Amaya again.

great views but small rooms”
Coral Rock was a well-located hotel situated outside of Galle. We selected a Deluxe/Sea View/King Bed room over the period 1/21/2012 - 1/22/2012 at a cost of per night (not incl taxes) and it was comfortable. We asked for a non-smoking room and was allocated the room as desired. There were problems initially securing the room of choice as the reception staff were reluctant to allocate a sea view room, however, they did eventually. The service staff were friendly and professional and, most importantly, the rooms were clean. However, the room we were allocated was not complete with some detail work yet to be finished. Nevertheless, beds wee very comfy. Breakfast, included in the price, was limited although nicely presented. My partner did notice weavels in one of the dishes that appeared to come from banana leaves. As a boutique hotel, the Coral Rock is not packed with features but it is stylish and family friendly (with children causing some noise).

Ocean view large room with great services”
My boyfriend and I spend five nights at this hotel and had an amazing time over New year holiday. We had a super delux room with ocean view on the 1st floor. The room is spacious and well designed with sea view. Super clean and a very big bathroom. We enjoy the simple design but yet cozy style which makes us feel at home. The balcony was also very big right above the pool with such beautiful sea view although it's so close to the beach so sometimes we have to close the curtain as people could look into our room from the beach! The area is quite part of the beach where many boats parked but the quality of beach is still good. The hotel invited us to their New Year Eve Gala which was really well organised with an amazing international buffet. They have decorated the pool area amazingly and had a DJ for the night! Plus organised an amazing fireworks on the beach around mid night! Overall we have nothing but good thing to say about this hotel. Will definitely come back again!!!

Nice little hotel but a bit bland”
Hikkaduwa is a funny little place but the coral rock was a great mid level hotel. We were lucky enough to have a new room that looked over the pool and the beach. The bathroom and room was very clean. The rest of the hotel is a little bit bland (drinks, food, restaurant etc) but the service was good and it was a nice place to stay for a night or two

Location is fantastic.”
We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is fairly basic but quite adequate for the price. Balcony doors could do with double glazing as it is quite noisy with the ocean crashing below 24/7. Staff could ask guests who come in late at night to be more considerate of other guests by being less noisy. Pillows need replacing definitely - they were way past their use by date. But otherwise nice place, great location, really friendly helpful staff in the bar/restaurant. The food was quite good and reasonably priced. This hotel is very well priced considering where it is and compared to many others on the strip.

Nice and friendly hotel directly at the sea”
Our stay was great: with great view of the sea and direct access to the beach we frequently went for a swim in the sea. The hotel is just next to the Coral Sanctuary, which offers the great opportunity to see loads of different, colourful fish while snorkeling. The restaurant is nice: the breakfast was nice and diverse, for dinner it offered good value for money (in comparison to other restaurants in the city). The hotel has friendly staff, who were very helpful.
