A beautifully designed and extremely comfortable hotel! Love how a touch of history was maintained in the space and how posh it felt. The tuck box full of snacks was our favourite part of the room, so handy for munching on during our days out. On top of that, the location was excellent, only a short walk to many places including Old Town. Would definitely recommend The Principal to anyone looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh!
Dear Pui, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
The Principal was a great location - walking distance to many of the city's attractions. The staff was very helpful and helped me to change a restaurant reservation when asked. The room and facilities were clean and lovely. Would definitely recommend!
Dear Lindsay, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
Wonderful hotel in the heart of the New Town”
This is my second time to stay at this hotel and it did not disappoint on this second visit. It is in a good central location on George Street and so was really close by to all the things we wanted to do; shopping and eating! The only downside to the location was that we had to arrive by car and the designated parking was not very convenient or close by. Also our room became very warm in the night and when we opened the window obviously it was quite noisy being on George Street. The room was lovely though, especially with all the little touches and the Christmas decorations in the hotel were beautiful and so we loved our festive stay!
Great last minute find!”
I had such a great feeling at this hotel. Staff were all incredibly friendly and accommodating. Room was very nice and newly redone. And despite a lot of renovation the hotel still has retained a lot of its old world charm. Great, convenient location too, easy walking into the city. Would definitely stay again!
great addition to Edinburgh hotel scene”
a welcome refurbishment and new livery for this property... staff were very accomodating and helpful - especially Valaria on the front desk. Hotel feels "loved", something rarely found in UK properties. we stayed for two nights on a short trip back to UK and would certainly stay again when next home in Edinburgh. If there was one thing to improve I would suggest breakfast was a little chaotic and that the brasserie was a little small for the number of rooms however food was tasty and a big thing for me - good coffee. I doubt you will be disappointed if you stay here and location is fantastic.
Fantastic property great location ”
Exceeded all expectations from the point of arrival till departure. Food at the Printing Press was on par with the finest. Front desk team was truly befitting the position, a special mention is Ms Marta, who went beyond her call of duty to help us with the next leg of our holiday. Kudos to the team and will definitely return and recommend highly to all who would like a memorable stay in Edinburgh
Strongly recommend to those who are visiting Edinburg”
Strategic location, nice & clean hotel room, extremely friendly & helpful staff (both hotel and restaurants). I enjoyed so much staying in this hotel for my solo trip to Edinburg in Dec 2015. The hotel has a nice Christmas deco at the front entrance & lobby, and the room is so neat & clean. Upon arrival, the staff at the lobby (I think the concierge staff) gave me lots recommendations on places to go & how to get there. Really impressed with the service, strongly recommend to stay there if you are visiting Edinburg.
good but not quite 5 stars”
This is a very central, highly serviced and high standard hotel. If it had a few nicer facilities (pool etc) it would be great. The restaurant was lovely if a bit busy - we often couldnt get a table which is frustrating for hotel guests, but the room was nice and modern and the staff were very attentive and friendly at all times. Pleasant stay all around
it was wonderful, the one that i cant forget when we left lost our bag with our passport and money in it, we was so desperate that time, but the staff came to us and make sure that our bag will be back. He is very helpfull.and yes after waiting for half an hour we got our bag. the hotel is easily access , there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance. definately coming back to this hotel!
Sensational Hotel with a priceless concierge”
the hotel was fantastic but martin the concierge, wow what a fantastic man. he made our stay amazing. what ever your need he can find it for you. funny, happy, outgoing and he genuinely went the extra mile to help us.he is invaluable. the hotel was great for our one night stay.
Good hotel with good location”
it is a good quality hotel with great location for shopping and good quality restaurants and cafes nearby. staff are attentive and knowledgeable. historical sites are within walking distance. i would consider staying in the george hotel on my next visit to edinburgh.
If you are travelling to Edinbugh by train or bus this hotel is perfect, just a short walk from either station. Great bar/restaurant well supported by locals and two minutes to Rose Street with dozens of lively bars and restaurants makes The George ideal for a night on the town. We would definately use this hotel again.
good but a few glitches”
Someone else's poo in the toilet when you arrive, it doesn't get worse on the cleanliness rating! Arrived late in the Christmas rush so did not alert staff who were otherwise great. Also everything else spotless. Great soundproofing, a huge plus in any hotel.
Dear Rona, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
VERY helpful Staff. Very Good food”
Staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Food good both at dinner and breakfast. Location.... Excellent. On the negative. Value for the price not quite right. Five star price but not quite there. Paper thin walls so sound was an issue. Bedding a bit sub standard.
Dear Mr. , Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon! Sincerely, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
Delightful Digs in Edinburgh”
From check-in to check-out everything was lovely. Staff is friendly and helpful, and location is excellent for walking around town. This was our oasis in August during the Fringe events and it truly was a nice quiet place to rest after a day of touring. Thank you to the dedicated staff.
Dear Linda, Thank you for the great review of our hotel! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
Beautiful hotel, beautiful staff”
This was my first time staying at The Principal hotel. I arrived early and received a really warm welcome at Reception. Delighted to be to be told that a room was available so I had a few hours to relax before my friend arrived. We both had an excellent wee stay in Edinburgh from then on. All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were staying on a Room Only basis but we used The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen and Burr & Co. If the weather had been bad we would not have wanted to leave the building! On checking out received a fond farewell. This is a great place to stay. Just realized that I haven’t mentioned the location! We never used transport once - that’s how great the location is!
Dear Anne, Thank you for your recent stay with us and for your amazing feedback. I am delighted to learn you had such a memorable stay from arrival to departure and that the team gave you the warm welcome, excellent service and fond farewell we are so proud of. Edinburgh has been enjoying overall a fantastic summer and I am happy the favorable weather enabled you to enjoy the city. Thank you again for your comments and we shall be looking forward to welcoming you back soon. Best regards, William Sdranis, Guest Relations Manager
Great hotel at a great location”
Great location, a beutiful building and friendly staff. My room was a little bit noisy as it was situated next to a back alley where delivery trucks and garbage trucks could be heard quite clearly, but other than that everything was excellent. While you can find cheaper hotels, the value for money of The Principal George Street is still very good and it is worth the extra pounds. I will definately stay here the next time I visit Edinburgh.
Dear Jonathan, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience from your stay as our guest. We are really sorry for any inconvenience you faced during your stay from external noise. As we are centrally based we cannot avoid being affected by some external noise, however Reception is always available to assist you and found you a more suitable room closer to your needs. Great place to stay”
Really liked this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient (princess street/shopping a couple blocks away, as well as Old Town). It had the best gym I used on my entire trip. We also had a room with a gorgeous view (we could see the water). I will definitely return to this hotel and I would recommend it.
Dear Colleen, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit here at the Principal Edinburgh George Street. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and the property's facilities. We are thrilled that you felt comfortable in your room and you enjoyed the view. We also have a famous restaurant in the hotel, the Printing Press Bar& Restaurant, which combines the modern techniques with season products and traditional Scottish recipes. Our latest edition, the Burr&Co is welcoming the guests with the aromatic Caravan coffee. Thank you for also highlighting our "strategic" location, some minutes away for historical attractions, boutique shops, cocktail bars and awarded restaurants. Thank you again and I hope that we will have the pleasure of looking after you on your next trip to the city. Kind regards, Christina Efthymiou Guest Relations Manager

Excellent Service, Wonderful location”
Highly recommend. We stayed three nights. The hotel is a five to ten minute walked from the train station and two short city blocks from Princes Street. It was mothers day in the USA when we stayed. One of our sons sent flowers to the hotel for my wife. The staff, Josh and Peter (concierges) discretely contacted me, and at my request unboxed the flowers, arranged them in a vase and placed them in our room. Excellent service, above and beyond the call of duty. They also shared with us three fantastic restaurant recommendations and made reservations. The room was clean and very nice! Overall a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.
