More about Malacca City Center

Malacca city center is an intriguing and historic port. At different times, it was colonized by three different European nations, and there is still plenty of historic character to admire. Hotels in Malacca city center make an ideal base for walking tours of the old quarter.

Jonker Street is the premier Malacca destination for tourists as it hosts antique markets, museums and hotels. This is also a great area to go shopping for handicrafts and batik textiles, especially in the evenings when the market is at its liveliest.

While markets like the Jonker Walk are especially attractive, Malacca also has a few modern shopping centers that are attached to prominent hotels in Malacca city center. Mahkota Parade and Tuah Walk are well known, and they both feature plenty of modern shops.

The city center is compact enough to see on foot or to explore with a trishaw. The best place to begin a sightseeing tour is at the imposing Stadthuys building. Built by the Dutch, it’s one of the oldest buildings of its kind in this part of the world. Other important sites include St Paul’s Church and the Malacca Sultanate Palace.

Getting to Malacca City is easy. Melaka Sentral is the major bus station and it receives regular traffic from Kuala Lumpur, only 145 kilometers away. The Malacca Old Bus Station is used for short-haul connections. Practically all accommodation in Malacca city center is within walking distance of the major attractions.
