Its worth it to stay at Mont Saint Michel ! What a Historic building! But as it is old building, you should understand that its not very decent. But still very cosy. I recommend here if you visit Mont Saint Michel.

idyllic setting but not worth the money ”
Mere Poulard has a 3 star rating but not worth better than a basic 2 in my view. My children's room was just above a huge fan which is not turned off at night and it kept them awake for most of the night. In our bathroom, the mirror had not been replaced; lucky my husband decided not to shave that day. stairs to the first floor were really dirty due to obviously a lot of to and froing from guests but does not give a good impression; upon leaving there was noone at reception. Pluses: comfy beds and great breakfast but I would recommend staying at one of the hotels by the shuttle terminals, cheaper, quieter and go into Mt St Michel for the day or even the evening show at the abbey as shuttles run 24/7. You would also not have to cope with the seagulls starting their trumpeting from 5 am.

We had a room facing the abbey, and it was very hot. The seagulls are also very loud! Personally don’t think there is enough to do on the mont to warrant staying overnight but had to figure that out for ourselves.

We stayed overnight in Mere Poulard and were glad that we did stay in MSM overnight. About 6pm it became quite quiet (most shops/restaurants close) but it was great to stay around and take photos etc. Gone was the hordes of mid day. Mere Poulard is very conveniently located at the entrance to MSM and is an iconic place. Room was good. The main challenge is the stairs to get to the room. Bring a light bag as you will have numerous steps up, down and around to get to the room (63 steps to our room on level 2)

Most likely more modern and comfortable hotels around Mont St Michel but this one is really quaint, inside the walls and withe a legendary past. Worth it.

              Quaint hotel on the Mont”
We enjoyed our stay at La Mère Poulard on Mont Saint-Michel, despite the fact that we had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to our room because there are no elevators/lifts in this hotel. I would NOT want them to alter the hotel in any way as that would take away from the ambience and the authenticity of the place. Our room was small, but spotlessly clean, and looked over the causeway leading to the Mont, so we had a great view of the plaza and the tides coming and going. There were robes and slippers on offer, plenty of hot water in the bath, and a mini fridge stocked with drinks, both soft and alcoholic. Pricy, but where isn't it? A Complimentary bottle of water and local Normandy biscuits with apple was also waiting for us. There are coffee making facilities in the room also. All rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floors (restaurant is on the 2nd) so if you cannot manage stairs, this hotel is not for you, but then you would not be able to walk around the Mount either! If you have a room overlooking the causeway, expect morning noises from lorries arriving from the mainland to bring supplies to the Mount - this goes with the territory, so we weren't bothered. Breakfast was generous and delicious. We did not try the famous Mère Poulard omelet... :-( We loved our stay and would not hesitate to return here.

              Minimal recommendation ”
Pros: Part of the village on Mont Saint Michel. View of the bay. Cons: Very crowded village. Minimal amenities (toiletries, robes & slippers), no elevator, no elevator. Staying on the island does not offer any added opportunities. Tickets are still required to tour the chapel & monastery. The shuttle over the causeway runs until 12:00A. There are several hotels on the opposite end of the causeway. I recommend staying off the island and visiting in the evening and early morning before the crowds arrive.

One of the worlds great hotels”
              Location, Food, Ambiance
Outside our room was a plaque with a testimony from Ernest Hemingway who stayed here when the hotel was commandeered during the war for troop housing. This is an amazing place with over the top history. We were right on the island of Mont St Michel and it was impressive. We had lots of time to see the Abey and walk the shore. And the food was great. After a number of lackluster meals in France (some of which I am sure were microwaved frozen) the Mere Polard restaurant was a real treat. The famous omlets are real. If you really want value for your money and to live the history then stay here. Although we found some other really good hotels in France, this was the icing on the cake. The environment, the history, the service, and the food made the Mere Polard stand out alone.

Wonderful, we only wish it had been longer! The 3rd floor door straight onto the ramparts of the fortress and the paths of the town was truly a gateway to magic for us, we found we had the whole town and mountain to ourselves as we explored for three hours late in the evening. Historical Hotel on Mont St Michel”
Large room; Located on the island; Renown restaurant attached
It was enjoyable staying in Mere Poulard. The room was large and well-equipped with amenities including the WiFi. The location is perfect to explore Mont St. Michel especially if you intend to do so first thing in the morning when the crowd is sparser and you do no need to worry about the tides preventing entry into the island. The downside is the lack of lifts (so you will have to carry your own luggage up 3 flights of stairs at least), and the really expensive, but renown, restaurant of the same name.

Location was great. Bathroom was large. Staff was helpful.
I had been SO looking forward to this trip. I had booked the room four months ahead- didn't get a view and got the wrong room type. Bought the bed and breakfast- the omelet is not cooked at breakfast (and is REALLY over rated- 51 USD for an omelet). It is beautiful there, but I would go late afternoon and leave pretty early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
