ON THE 31/12/17 THE TOILET WAS DIRTY ON THE LID . THE 1/1/18 WE WENT OUT FOR THE DAY GOT BACK TO THE ROOM 116 AT ABOUT 6PM I WENT TO USE THE TOILET AND IT WAS STILL DIRTY AS THE DAY WE CHECKED IN , ALSO ONLY 3 TOWELS 1 SOAP , 1 SHAMPOO ( NO SHOWER CAP , NO LOTION, ONLY 1 TOILET ROLL),ALSO THE EXTRACTOR IN THE BATHROOM WAS EXTREMELY DIRTY SO IT COULD NOT EXTRACT MUCH AIR !!!! DUE TO THAT WHEN YOU HAD TO SHOWER I CANT BREATH AND HAD TO LEAVE THE DOOR A LITTLE WAY OPEN!! 3. Above average”
Firstly they gave us the wrong room, when I asked them they demanded that I email them a proof of the booking...Unbelievable!! So my room that I had booked in October 2016 was not ready and they did not know nothing about it. Once in the room there were never any bath towel or water and we had to call them every evening requesting fot these. They made the room late in the evening everyday and we could not rest and relax without them forcing us out so that they could clean the room, except on the day that we were checking out. That day they demanded to clean the room at 9am whilst we were still having shower. Total rip off, they charge R50 per day for parking.I was very disgusted and will never stay in this hotel again.

Price is sooo much cheaper on Agoda.com!”
Great location, friendly staff, newly renovated
It was a real last minute booking, I called the Protea hotel first to enquire about availability and rate, but it turn out to be twice more expensive than what I saw on agoda.com! So needless to say, I just clicked away with agoda. But when I check in at the hotel, they seem to have difficulty with finding my reservation. But they asked me to forward the booking confirmation to their manager and let me check in straight away. The parking is R40 per day, not free The porter was extremely helpfu and polite, not only help me to carry my luggage, even my groceries! It's located to V&A waterfront, camps bay and everything else. Me and my husband certainly enjoyed the morning jog along the coast line!

          Location.
Unfortunately upon check-in, it took the reception staff more than half an hour to find the booking in their computer. One I was assigned a room, not the supreme bath etc suite there was a problem as the blinds wouldn't close causing the light to shine directly on the bed. Though I called reception multiple times, it took more than an hour tlfor anyone to come help. The workers spent half an hour in middle of the night trying to fix the blinds while was trying to go to sleep. Eventually they hanged me to another room which had a cold draft throughout the night because the window wouldnt properly close. ...

Nice atmosphere, excellent reception staff, good location
Stay was very pleasant with few minor exceptions.Bed was extremely hard and position of bedhead against the wall mounted tv in next room meant being kept awake by the noise of their tv. Also one day they were drilling in the hotel for two hours with the noise going right through the hotel. If you add in the jackhammers going during the street construction (not the hotel's fault) it was a pleasant though not peaceful stay.

          Worst Hotel in 20 Years”
          Close to Beach Road
This is the worst hotel I stayed in in 20 years. The staff and administrator put us on the first floor Management never told us that the hotel has water heater problem so the water turned BROWN during my shower. The wire outside of the room that lights the sign has sparks coming out of it and makes noises at night time that kept us awake. It took management one full evening and one half morning to come to a decision to drill open the in-room safe. Imagine what would happen if you had to fly out that morning and your passport is in the safe. They never consider moving us to a different room even though we requested. They said the whole hotel had been booked. The Spurs restaurant attached to the Protea Hotel at Sea Point is greasy. I'll never stay here again, ever! The ONLY thing they got right was the laundry but if you read the fine print, the laundry was done by a third party and not by the hotel staff. So obviously, the 3rd party had it right!

          safe parking lot (?)
-reception initially provided me a room that I went to only to discover that the room's door was open, the bed unmade and there were towels on the floor. -the hallways are lit with this amazingly awful green light. I guess this is an attempt to look "hip" at the lowest possible cost and effort, and then still failing entirely -the room service food is basically burgers, fries and wings … you know, healthy stuff -the info provided in the room says that room service closes at 11pm, but it actually closes at 10pm … or whenever they feel like it, I guess. -the bar doesn't accept your room # to charge a drink to, so you have to pay cash -no minibar in the room -there's honestly like 10 tv channels, 5 of them are football or rugby, and 1 of them is currently playing a Jack Black movie. I append no further comment. -I have to call reception in order to get a user/pass for wifi, as the system where I have to enter last name, room # and requested user/pass doesn't work - the phone was kind of like a rotary phone -- you know, they type from the mid-1980's where there's a dialpad but you still here the 'clicks' after you touch. I'm an international traveler and wanted to make an international collect call, a task which proved all but impossible ... but none of that matters, because: - woke up this morning and the phone is dead (so I can't call reception to get more wifi allowance) All this amounts to an experience I would describe as being pretty craptacular indeed. I've stayed at other Protea hotels and not had nearly this level of disappointment.

Stainless steele shower, clean room, pleasant amenities
Well located in vibrant Sea Point close to seawall and waterfront. Hotel was spotless throughout and I loved the stainless steele shower. Staff were all welcoming and helpful and the garage was easily accessible and manned 24 hours. Breakfast was reasonably priced(continental)and extensive. I would definitely stay here again. My only hitch was at check out; agoda had already charged me and the hotel saw fit to do so a second time...maybe not so reasonably priced after all? I am sure this will be rectified as I have all my receipts and agoda has been fantastic in helping me sort this error out.
