Excellent staff, disappointing facilities. Please fix the water pressure!”
Pros: Huge rooms Lovely food Kind staff Atmospheric - misty valley views Cons: No water pressure - at one point, water didn't even come out of the tap. Even at its best it was worse than a gravity camp shower. Very slow internet connection Sparse rooms - tiny settee inside a room that can fit a family Very basic bathrooms In short, it felt like we were camping. For our money, we could have stayed in much better villas. Keep looking!
Very well maintained and decent room facilities in this small home stay”
This property has only 4-5 rooms/villas but is very well maintained & staffed. We got a very large room having most of the amenities. But it was missing a closet for keeping the cloths. Location was good, it was like middle of the nature and there were few deers too. Food was good
Best bed I ever had. Very good staff. Villa is just a must!
Overjealous staff member but lovely settings, view stunning. No pool.”
The room is large, with upstairs as your living room. It is clean and neat, and dimly lit, style of the room isn't bad. Some observations in Sri Lanka in general. (1) Food served is never hot, (2), food is generally oversalted; (3) Sri Lanka isn't a culinary desitination and (4) Sri Lanka is expensive for what you would get compared to SE Asia. We arrived at VS late and had dinner at hotel, we had to order during check in, and not when we were seated, so when we sat down for dinner it was served immediately - therefore good / bad depending on your disposition, it wasn't piping hot. Even before dessert was served, we were asked what we wanted for breakfast. "Because we need time to cook it". So guess what! Breakfast wasn't hot either. I assume it just sits there. The SL breakfast is a roti in potato, I had the English breakfast. Not bad. Happened almost on a daily basis till the last day when the not so well spoken English waiter, actually took the order when we were seated. Horray!!
Great location and room/"chalet"; helpful and polite staff. The view from our patio was awesome. Good value for money IMO (especially for Sri Lanka/Kandy).
Unbelievable so nice”
Most beautiful place with spectacular view and service
Spent two nights in this wonderful place. The villas location is on the mountains with breathtaking view. The room is specious and very clean with a huge balcony where you can have a cup of coffee while watching the mountains stunning sunset or sunrise. Breakfast was great. Staff are wonderful. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Kandy.
It's abit far up on the hill..but no problem at all since we have a driver with us. Nice environment and comfortable and spacious deluxe villa. Breakfast was ok..standard English breakfast and not much variety..unlike all other places that we have stayed that offered variety and tasty local breakfast.
The hotel is far from the city, on a hilltop, far from the crowd and noise. The view from our room was spectacular. Though it was a challenge to find the hotel as we arrived in the evening and the hotel telephone number was not working. Very clean. The staffs are very goo and had prepared really good food including breakfast. Well-recommended if you need serene environment far from the city.
We spent two nights here in the grand delux room and it is exactly what you need after the crazy streets of kandy. The staff here are fantastic and the manager Dinuk is so helpful in arranging onwards travel. We ate here both here nights and were not disappointed with the Sri Lankan curries and rice. Would definitely recommend this place and it's facilities and location overlooking the mountains.
Great Staff. ”
Had a very disappointing stay mainly down to the attitude of the owner, However, the staff compensated for it.
Relaxing villa above crazy Kandy”
The deluxe room was beautiful with a terrace looking down the green hills to Kandy it was quiet and peaceful. Small toiletries provided and a hairdryer, this enormous room with en-suite shower room was well-appointed with a supersize bed. Staff were delightful and dinner well presented and tasty. Generous breakfast too. Would stay there again.
Very friendly staff and spacious rooms in great setting
Definitely worth a stay”
Besides that it was slightly hard to reach this place on the map. The Villa truly satisfy me in every other way. The staff was helpful, friendly and willing to engage in conversations. The room was huge, bed was comfy, and things were kept clean and neat. Nearby you can explore on foot for a little walk around the neighborhood, everyone was friendly and they can speak english! The breakfast is amazing. Love the home-made soft bread! and the Dinner, was spectacular and romantic. Villa is one of the cheapest and no doubt about staying again!
The villa is tucked away in the dense forest above Kandy but still only 10mins away from the city center. The 'Peacock' room was very spacious, tastefully decorated and had a large verandah overlooking the picture perfect valley below. There was also a WIFI router inside the room which made the connection very fast. The food and beverage on offer is plentiful, affordable and top quality...do not pass on a candlelit rice & curry dinner. Breakfast was freshly made at time of order and enough to keep you going well into the afternoon. The property is beautifully landscaped with plenty of flora/flauna and this really adds to the tropical mountain feel. Shenandoah's staff went beyond our expectations for service, they were fantastic. Our host Dinuk was our driver and guide for 3 days as we toured Kandy and surrounds. This experience really made the trip for us as we were able to avoid many over crowded attractions and see the quieter side. I highly recommend booking your tours directly thru Shenandoah. Our experience was brilliant and I highly recommend.
I can sit there the whole day”
Tuck away in hills, it is quiet and peaceful, although you will hear the prayer from the mosque. Room is nice and large. Suggestions - 1. the sofa and TV position is awkward for watching. 2. There is no wardrobe space. 3. The shower is located at the wrong location, so the bathroom is wet all the time. There is spider crawling and some dead bugs. Although it is expected to see insects, I think it is still possible to clean them away. The owner and staffs are very nice and accommodating. It is so nice to sit out at the patio gazing and doing nothing. I would love to do it again.
New Year at Shenandoah”
Great stay, sch a beautiful and peaceful place. All the staff were extremely helpful which was especially nice considering it was New year! The views are incredible!
A nice guest house and very welcoming”
The rooms are very nice but I recommend that the owners put in mosquito nets in each room. Due to remoteness of the lodgings there are a lot of bugs around.
Number one choice!”
We had the best time at Villa Shenendoah. I recommend booking the "villa" room type. Then you have a spacious stand alone villa, AC, private terrace with incredible views. We felt like we were the only guests at the hotel. All meals were fantastic and served directly on our terrace by super friendly service minded staff. We travelled with a small baby and the place is definitely family friendly. We made a lot of good trips to nearby places, organised by the hotel: Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya. Note that the hotel is 20 minutes away from Kandy by car/tuk-tuk. There is no alcohol on the menu, but you could order it any ways!
