A clean and restful stay after "roughing it"”
Baan Rub Aroon Guesthouse was a welcome haven to end my trip in the area of Chiang Rai. I had spent almost a week with two Akha hill tribe home stays and was so relieved when I showed up early and the sweet owner said they were just finishing up my room and I was welcome to check in early. I was so looking forward to that hot shower and just unwinding and reorganizing. The room was extremely clean and well appointed with strong wi fi and bath toiletries available in refillable pump bottles which was nice to see...no additional plastic bottles being thrown in the trash. There was also bottled water available in your room in glass not plastic and they served a simple satisfying breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast and fresh fruit in the morning. A bonus was the fact that bicycles (mtn and regular) with locks were available for free guest use and this was a perfect way to explore the town and wander out toward the countryside. The guesthouse is also conveniently located on a quiet street just northeast of the centre of town near the beautiful Wat Phra Kaew Buddhist Temple. Taxi can also be arranged to and from the airport. This is a very well run delightful place to stay. I won't hesitate to stay there again.

Excellent Location with Friendly Staff”
Baan Rub Aroon Guesthouse was our first place to stay in Chiang Rai. Our room was large enough for our three young children to sleep and play, and the breakfast was delicious. The staff was so welcoming and kind, and gave great suggestions as to places to visit in the city. We will certainly return!

Warm, welcoming, like staying with happy family”
I have been living in Thailand for over a year, and traveling in South East Asia for longer that that, and I would have to say this is quite possibly the most warm and inviting, comfortable and relaxing, safe and pleasant hotel I have ever stayed in. I travelled as a 40 year old man with three Canadian ladies in their late 50's and we were all VERY impressed with Baan Rub Aroon. Nong, who runs the place, is a fantastic human being who is a true people-person and will make you feel like you are visiting your favorite big sister (and she makes delicious banana pancakes for breakfast!). The rooms are plain and unspectacular, but for us, this didn't matter as they make for a comfortable sleep. All the recommendations that Nong gave us (river trip, hired driver, restaurants, things to avoid) were spot-on! Thanks Nong! Her gardens around the hotel are BEAUTIFUL and are lovely to look at. The location of the hotel is about as perfect as you can get: close to the local market, but far enough away from the backpacker party trail to give you a quiet night's sleep. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Reliable, Friendly and Good Value”
Excellent choice for those on a medium budget. Friendly and helpful staff, good travel advice pleasant setting and a relaxing experience. Close to a central market and night market, the Baan Rub Aroon has limited but very welcome facilities for self-catering.

reasonable price, nice accommodation”
the guesthouse was very nice, family-oriented with garden and very spacious and comfortable room. Breakfast is ok, freshly made but not really fulfilling. Location is very good, in walking distance to the center and the weekend walking street. They have good facilities there. The staff can arrange for you motorbike and bicycle rental and taxi. Price worthy.

Excellent place near town”
We really enjoyed our stay, the staff were friendly and helpful. The family room was perfect for our needs. The location was great and within walking distance to anything we wanted, but away from the main streets. We would stay again if we ever go back to Chiang Rai.

Second time Visit”
This is our second time to stay at Baan Rub Aroon, first time was 2 years ago. During our stay, there is few things happen but thanks for the owner - Nong to settle for us. 1. the room given was not the same with previous stay, but Nong doing the exception and swap for us. Really appreciated! 2. we come back late from Night Market and dont know how to handle the main door. after few try, we decided to press door bell. May be is late (about 10pm), the person who help us open the door was black with her face. Nomatter how many time sorry or thanks we say to her, she have no answer and continue show the black face. Its a good place to stay, especially walking distance to saturday night market. However, be ready, as you will read alot of annoying rules (in Mandarin) with alot of Exclamation mark (!!!). Would suggest the owner, may be you may print the rules separately to specific guest, but not stick anywhere in the house, we really feel annoying (especially we understand Mandarin and we know its not mean to us)

As good as it gets. Cheap. ”
After I had read the comments, I expected more of this place, especially the hospitality of the person who is in charge of this place but, unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. I got lost when I was trying to get to the place, so I called up the guesthouse asking for help whether someone could give me some directions. There was a lady who was half directing and yelling with an unfriendly tone of voice. I tried no to panic but asking for help was a mistake. In the end, she came to pick us up, though I refused. That was my first impression. I know this place is so cheap but if this is what I know I will experience and ruin my good mood, I'd rather pick some place else. Maybe the lady in charge used to have fun when starting this business. Having said that, not seeing her around mad my stay a lot more comfortable with the maids there.

Homely colonial oasis”
See previous review; despite Mr Pon being a bit of a con and the washing not coming back clean, we liked it (and Chiang Rai) enough to book an extra night! Lovely little place, really.

Guesthouse with family atmosphere ”
For our surprise we got breakfast without any additional fees (didn't book breakfast). The host was very friendly and answered every questions. We enjoyed the stay! If you book the guesthouse be aware that it's outside of the center. The walk takes about 15-20min.

Oasis of Old School Colonial style”
Heavily laiden tuktuk pulled into drive with views to garden complete with hammocks and sitting areas. Staff welcoming and friendly and happy to provide information about city, etc. Kitchen for use by guests and several chill out areas, balconies and terraces for use by all (though only used by us). Nice ground floor triple set up as a double room with a single room annex, perfect for us as a couple + 1 friend. House built as home for european industrialists in 1930s, we heard, but converted interestingly as Guest House. Two communal shower rooms seemed adequate though not sure if house was full. No water at all on last (early) morning, though this was resolved. We took the offer of a 'tour' by an ex english teacher friend of the manager. Turned out not to be as good value as advised (2,800 Baht + lunch + entrances) and the driver (i.e., NOT tour guide) barely spoke any english at all. Very difficult to communicate. Also taken to over-priced, remote restaurant for lunch where they attempted to overcharge us, though the food was good. And took us to the 200 baht Opium education centre rather than the highly recommended 50 bath museum (at the Golden Triangle), which was brilliant. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND 'Mr Pon'. Can't image his students learned much at all! Tours offered for less, and offering more, from agents in town. Washing service apparently efficient but clothes didn't all come back clean! MIght stay again. Breakfasts were pretty good!

Nice place to stay for several days”
Overall, a nice guest house. Owner and staff are quite nice and friendly. Perhaps the only thing I miss is Thai food but Farang toast and eggs are better for a wider range of people. My room was nice, quiet and comfy. Some people like more hotels and some like more "homestay" style. It is nice place to chill out and not have sterile hotel feel... close to night market and a few old local temples. Nice place!

Nice and quiet; somewhat far from town”
Stay was good, but for a shared bathroom and location, I think a place closer into town could be found for same price or less. Free breakfast was great and there is a kitchen to use if needed. It's about a 15 minute walk to the center of town and almost 20 to the night market.
