Beautiful, Stylish & Tasteful Hotel - Highly Recommended”
I stayed at the Governor's Residence for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The decor in the 100 year old building is beautiful, stylish and tasteful and the location is peaceful, but within easy reach of vibrant downtown Yangon. The food quality and presentation are excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Mohinga for breakfast, the Burmese curries in the Tiffin Box lunch and the sumptuous Afternoon Tea. The biggest asset is the staff however. The management have assembled a courteous, helpful and charming team who go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend a stay at the Belmond Governor's Residence.

Restored teak mansion”
A overnight stopover before flying back to HK in Yangon at the end of our trip. The Governor's Residence was a great place to relax and wind down. Pretty close to the airport. Breakfast was delicious and relaxing - champagne, a harpist, mohinga and more international foods with fresh juice (my girlfriend loved the Annie's yogurt) on the patio of the hotel - an old teak mansion from the colonial period. We did a yoga class that the hotel organized in the morning. Went to Shwedagon Pagoda and into the center of the city for lunch via 15 minute taxi ride. Hotel is walking distance to the old Pegu Club, which was really cool. Took a tour of Chinatown organized by the hotel. Spent a lot of time in the bar playing board games and relaxing before leaving for the airport (1am flight). Staff was nice and very accommodating. Definitely not a cheap place to stay - prices quoted in USD and many were basically the same as what I would expect in NYC - but the grounds were beautiful. My only real complaint is that we checked out around 3pm and weren't leaving until 10pm - left our luggage with the front desk and it didn't ever seem to be put away, just off to the side in plain view of anyone entering or exiting the hotel.

Oasis in bustling Yangon”
Spent a lovely two night break at the Governor's Residence while visiting Yangon. It is in the quieter Embassy district only a few mins drive from Shwedagong Pagoda so perfectly situated for a sunset visit. The hotel occupies a historic teak building with modern room extensions in similar style sitting in beautifully kept lush tropical gardens with a swimming pool surrounding the main building - a very welcome facility after a day out exploring busy Yangon. Nice spa too. Spacious and cool rooms. Delicious and varied buffet breakfast served on the shady verandah. We also tried the Burmese curry buffet one night which was a fantastic chance to experience a huge variety of dishes. One of the best things about the hotel was the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Would highly recommend.

Oasis in Yangon”
We chose to splurge for our final night in Myanmar after 11 beautiful but dusty and hot days traveling around the country. Boy were we glad we did! We arrived relaxed from several days in Inle Lake to the jolt of the city. When the car pulled into the drive at Governor's Residence we relaxed again. A warm and friendly greeting plus a gong to announce each new guest. We were shown to our rooms (ready despite arriving well before check in) and told that we should think of the hotel as our second home. And so we became homebodies for two days - leaving only briefly to visit Shwedagon Pagoda at sunset and have dinner at Monson. Otherwise, we spent two lazy days by the pool being pampered by the excellent staff of the hotel. It is slow season and just prior to Thingyan so we were lucky that the hotel afforded us late check outs (4pm) which was exceptionally generous. Eating and drinking here will definitely put a dent in your wallet! Beer is twice the price we paid anywhere else. After a $60 lunch for 3 of us we decided to eat in the city rather than at the hotel for dinner. The curry table is $42++ which just seemed ridiculous even at a 5 star hotel - this is still Burma. Breakfast, which is included, is wonderful with a wide variety of choices and excellent quality. The rooms are simple but elegant. The bed and linens top rate. The bathroom very nice - although the tub a bit strange. Guests were invited to a special ceremony on our second day where the staff of the hotel offered alms to the local monks in advance of Thingyan. It was lovely to watch. The grounds are beautiful and the pool is huge, clean and fantastic. Every time a leaf would drop, someone from the staff would be there to fish it out. If you just looked like you needed something, a staff member would appear with a smile.

Fine Hotel That Tries a Little Too Hard”
This nicely restored teak mansion is located in a quiet part of town and is surrounded by foreign embassies. It's billed as a luxury hotel, and that it is. We felt that it was a bit over formal and trying too hard to fit the luxury billing. On this trip we also stayed at both the Savoy (comfortable, low key and relaxed) and the Strand (beautifully restored with an attentive but non intrusive staff). If we return to Yangon we'll probably choose one of those. The only real negative about The Governor's Residence was the air conditioning. Neither our room nor the air conditioned public spaces ever seemed cool or dry enough. For the price one would expect more robust air conditioning.

Old world charm with a boutique hotel feel ”
Governors residence What can you say? This hotel offers old world charm with a very "boutique" feel to it. Yes there are more modern establishments in town with larger pools, lots of marble and mirrors in the lobby but, if you want excellent service and a great, understated colonial style retreat in the city then you have to go quite a distance to beat this. The main body of the hotel which incorporates the restaurants, shops and bars has been tastefully formed from the original governors house that was built in the 1920's. The gardens and ponds surrounding the property are incredibly lush and even have a resident pair of peacocks. The pool area is quiet and provides an excellent respite from the city. The rooms are housed in more modern blocks to the rear of the original building but have been seamlessly grafted on and feel as though they have always been there. An earlier reviewer mentioned that neighbours could be heard, which is true but the same can be said for any hotel and I can honestly say that it never became an issue for us. We dined at both restaurants and the food and service was excellent in both. A special mention has to be made of the buffet-style curry table, a must for any curry lover with a choice of around 10 different curries as well as a grill station serving prawns and assorted satays accompanied by unlimited draught beer and soft drinks! When you consider that the room rate includes without a doubt the best breakfast buffet in town and complimentary minibar it's no surprise that this hotel remains consistently the best place to stay in Yangon. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Smiles”
the governor's residence exceeded our expectations. it is set in beautiful surroundings with peaceful gardens, pounds and pool. employees always welcome you by name and with a beautiful smile. the rooms are spacious and beutifully decorated. the food is a little pricy and especially their city tours which you can get for far cheaper from outside. all in all we really enjoyed our stay. yangon is a beautiful city.

Luxury, culture, relaxation”
We stayed at the Governor's Residence during our Honeymoon in Myanmar. We absolutely loved this hotel. If we ever make it back to this amazing country/city, we will stay again. Everything was easy, the staff was incredibly helpful and nice to speak with. The hotel was situation slightly outside the city center which was nice because it was an oasis after the hustle and bustle of vibrant Yangon.

Far from center, overpriced, but still the best”
Governor's Residence is still the best hotel in Yangon. It is beautiful, lovely atmosphere, charming, has nice staff, and a lovely bar. But, saying all of that, it is far out of the center and is not worth the price. Unless you must stay in the absolute top hotel, go to Trader's Hotel in town. We stayed at both hotels during our trip. The international restaurant is rated number 1, but again, it is pretty good, but not worth the price.

Colonial charm in a nice neighborhood”
Located slightly away from the city centre in the Embassy Quarter, The Governor's Residence is in a quiet and safe neighborhood. The landmark of Yangon, Shwedagon Padoda, is within walking distance (although I wouldn't say it's really that close). The estate features a colonial charm and you can indeed get a sense of its beautiful history while wondering around the pool, the garden and public areas. Our room is huge, with a humongous bath tub in the washroom, although I would say the overall decoration is more on the minimalist front. Breakfast should be nice, but the hot food station was not ready at 6ish when we had our breakfast (although we were told breakfast starts from 4:30am) - frankly quite a disappointment. Overall I would say it's a nice boutique hotel but probably a bit overrated given its price (hotels with similar quality in Bagan or Inle Lake would cost at most half of the price as the Governor's Residence).

Beautiful hotel, superb, stylish rooms”
The Governor's residence is in a central location in the leafy DQ area. The building was of a gorgeous, teak, colonial style. The restaurant served superb meals and the bar area was very relaxing. The pool was also very beautiful, gently lit by candlelight at night. Highly recommended hotel; overall experience was by far the best we had in all of Myanmar.

Stunning presentation”
this was my first trip to myanmar, and i loved the place. people are friendly everything green and attractive (in an asian context). the governor's residence is situated in a nice area wide tree lined streets. this beautiful timber residence just oozes character, the room was generous size with great furnishings and even with its authentic period look everything worked. and free wi fi access available every in the hotel surrounded by water it is a credit to the hotel management that never a mosquito in sight. only a couple of negative drawbacks, the lack of shelter when it rained when traveling from main lobby to room, and the very public positioning of the swimming pool, overlooked by the lobby and restaurant diners made it had to just relax into its cool waters. but all in all i really enjoyed my stay here

Warm hospitality, Well-Trained Staff”
The whole hotel staffs deserve the credits. From the moment I checked in until the time I checked out. I received warm welcome and greeting all the time. The room was well maintained and spotless. When I had the breakfast, the front desk staff, Susie, came by and greeted with me with a warm smile. She asked me what my plan would be that day. I told her that I did not have plan. She then came back with a Yangon map and gave me some suggestions, which turned out to be the best time I had in Yangon. This is just an example. The rest of staffs were all very nice and helpful too. I left the security box in the room wide opened one day (with passport and cash in it). When I came back, the passport and cash was still untouched. Very decent people. It has a very nice environment and atmosphere inside and around. I had a good walk. One thing they should improve was their breakfast. I stayed in this hotel for five nights. Eating the same food every morning was boring. They should change their menu daily.

Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
the global hotel offer in yangon is quite limited. this one is really nice and is quite unique in yangon. the building itself is beaitiful, the rooms are very convenient and the service is perfect! the environment is also very quiet. the hotel is nicely located between the shwedagon pagoda and the city center, and just 30mn from the airport... the only weak point is the price which is a bit high... but the market is very high in yangon as demand is high amd there are not enough rooms available. most of the hotels are fully booked... but i highly recommend this hotel either for business trip or for a couple who is travelling / visiting this great country!

Amazing, but still too expensive”
I think the Governor's is the best hotel in Yangon, yet I still don't know that I would stay there again or recommend it to a friend because the pricetag is so over the top for what you get. I only have positive things to say about the hotel, but just don't think it justifies what it asks for as a price.

Love the atmosphere”
It felt like I wasn't even in Yangon anymore. Loved the ambiance and the vibe of the hotel. The staff were very nice too. They gave us disposable masks and also a reusable mask for each of us. Sanitizers were also provided in the room. For the breakfast buffet, they helped bring the food so that people weren't touching the utensils together. We ordered room service for dinner and it was quite pricey but it was kind of expected. The pool was also very nice. I wouldn't mind going there a second time for a staycation and it's definitely recommended if you just want to relax and get away from the noisy city without still staying in Yangon.

Lovely Hotel, Great Servie”
This was by far the best hotel i stayed in Yangon. Again, girlfriend visited me here, and i booked something better this time, and i hit the jackpot. Everything from food, room, and staff were just amazing. Sure it is a bit pricey, but it is well worth the money if you are vacationing in Yangon, i cant think of any other hotel here more suitable for couples than this one. There is one thing though, their TV's are so ancient and old, it just undermines all the other lavishness that were present. A shame if you ask me...
